No, that's the free build kids get to do. I think. There should be 2 new Pick a Models (PaM) in the PaB wall starting today. I think my store gets shipments on Monday, so my guess is they won't see the new stuff until Tuesday.

Absolutely. I think first up is the latest incarnation of the Republic Gunship.

Easier said than done. Sadly, the original owner had opened both #1 bags, and built them. Those parts are hidden among almost 40 lbs of loose bricks. On the positive side, all the other bags are sealed. The Star Wars sets are mostly built, and were separated better. I plan to start with those and hopefully those builds will deplete the pile of random stuff a bit.

I recently bought a Large LEGO Lot (LLL), and I plan to chronicle my endeavors here. Usually when I buy a LLL, the bricks just get assimilated into the collective. This LLL was different. It had a number of partially assembled sets that were easily identified including a number of Star Wars sets. And a Monster Fighters Haunted House. 4/10/16 Update Here's the second batch of sets I am reassembling. 21115 The First Night - Minecraft. 90% complete. I know I saw the figures as I was going through things, but don't have them with the set. Also missing some jumper plates and bright green bricks. 21113 - The Cave - Minecraft. 90% complete. Same story as above. 21117 The Ender Dragon - Minecraft. 30% complete. Sadly, I don't remember seeing any of the printed dragon pieces. 75003 A-wing. 95% complete. Missing some pieces for the flick missiles. And I know I saw Han and Admiral Ackbar. Just need to find them again. :-/ 4/4/16 Update Here's a couple picture from the ad for the second half of the LLL I bought. Sadly, I don't have pictures of the first batch before I sorted them. Here are some of the sets I managed to build so far. 75021 - Republic Gunship. I have since Padme's hair since taking the picture. Only missing the stickers. 7778 - Midi-scale Millenium Falcon. Missing the radar dish, but I have not looked very hard for it. I am confident it will be found! 3180 - Octan Tank Truck. Missing the fuel pump, but again, have not looked real hard for it. 75004 - Z-95 Headhunter. 100% complete!

I was thinking the same thing.

So you still think a non-LEGO part actually found it's way into a LEGO production facility, entered a parts bin, was dispensed into a parts bag, found it's way into a set, and was sold in a LEGO store? No way.

I think you guys are missing the OP's main point. Our LEGO collections can be extremely valuable. If I were to die suddenly, I'd hate to think my family would think it just toys and give it away or sell it for a few bucks. I'd rather have the peace of mind that they could sell it off for a good chunk of change; I'm guessing $10,000+ USD. My hope would be that my local LUG would work with them to liquidate my collection to help my family in their time of need.

A mistake like this, I believe. I can see how 2 of something that is meant to be in a set would be there. They roll off the same line. A set missing two heads and having two totally different replacement heads? Not possible. TLG is highly automated. It's not like there are workers putting all the parts in all the bags. I guess it's possible someone bought the set, carefully opened it, replaced parts they wanted, carefully resealed the box, and returned it. I know this happens all too frequently with minifigures getting stolen.

Thanks! I'd love to see the other three sides as well if possible. And possibly a 3D view of the roof. Just to clarify, are most of the pieces above the windows white? Sometimes it tough to differentiate between the white and gray. Once I get closer to starting, I plan to track the whole process on my blog (and here!), so I'll post all my reference pics. I'm not going to kill myself over making it 100% accurate, but I do want to get it as close as possible. When out LUG does displays, I display a lot of LEGO Movie sets. Even though they are just the standard builds, they get a ton of attention. I want to add some true MOCs and up the "Wow!" factor.

Agreed. It's the nostalgia. I am in my mid 40s, and there aren't many things that are still around from my youth. Only the classics: LEGO, Hot Wheels, Play Doh, Silly Putty, etc. These are the only things I can think of that have continually been on toy shelves since I was a child. I cherish the opportunity to share a little of my youth with my children.

That's a good idea! I'll start a thread in the next few days. I thought I've seen a thread around here where you can post parts, or partial builds, and other members will help identify what set they may have come from. I can't find it though. :-( The box I have has a bunch of partially built sets, but a lot seem to be Ninjago and Chima which I have no knowledge of.

I took screenshots on my Mac directly from the DVD that I am using for reference. On the Blu Ray, there is a feature that show a animated build of the apartment. I couldn't get a direct capture, but I recorded it off my TV with my phone. I grabbed a series of screencaps from that as well. between the two, I am finding all sorts of things. Like I didn't realize there were a couple of bands of white around the building. And there are a number of different 1x2 bricks in use; brick profiles, palisades, grooved, grills, etc. All in different colors. :-/

I think 90% of the facade is dark orange. I don't see any dark red. The only tan I see is the curved windowsills. I see Medium Dark flesh and dark brown between the windows here and there. I think they're supposed to be worn looking. I think Emmet's Apartment is a little run down. Like how the columns are a mixture of gray and dark gray.

I'm thinking you're right. I think I need medium dark flesh. Is that the same as medium nougat? I'm not seeing any dark red, but I'm thinking there is some dark brown.

What's your budget for lego and how do you keep them?
kibosh replied to wgemini's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I bought a big lot of LEGO off a social media site last night for $250. it was the first time I have ever given the buyer their asking price. It was a sizable lot of LEGO, and I bet I could have gotten for $200, but pictured was the Monster Fighters Haunted House (10228) box. I regret not buying that set when I had the chance, so I took a chance on it. It's missing the bag with the figures, and the furniture, but all the other bags are there and unopened. I'll piece together enough sets to sell off again to cover my expense, and I'll have a set I have been longing for to boot! This is the key to my budget. Buy big lots for cheap. Sell off what I can to recoup my cost, and to finance future purchases. -
I scored a huge box of LEGO last night off Facebook. It's going to take me WEEKS to sort through it and build what I can. I am amazed by your patience and dedication!

If you're willing to post hi res renders of things, I'd LOVE anything you're willing to offer from your Emmet's Apartment building! Painting is a line I just can't cross. It is a badge of honor for our LUG to be able to say everything we display is 100% unaltered LEGO. That's not a bad idea. I can always swap it out later if/when it comes in gray. It looks like we need a couple of dark flesh 1x2 palisades bricks, too. I don't think those exist either.

I'm gathering pieces to start my Emmet's Apartment build and it just occurred to me that the croissant is not available in gray. Grrr....

That is fantastic. So very jealous of all those Riders... I love everything that has to do them. -
Do you want the Lego collectible bubble to burst?
kibosh replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think they got an earful because it was a bad idea for AFOLs. I didn't purchase one this year, because I already had it. I was upset that there wasn't a new set to add to my scene, not because it affected the set I already owned in any way. I get why TLG did it. Now that people know there's a possibility to get sets they missed out on, they are much more likely to jump on board now, rather than avoid the theme altogether. I totally disagree with this. Maybe a handful of people buy up multiple copies of a particular set for specific bricks, but it can't be many. And if it was the case, they would more than make up the difference in PaB sales. If I could order all the pieces I needs to build more modulars, I'd be in a constant state of accumulating pieces and building. I would think PaB sales would be much more economical for TLG to sell. No boxes or instructions to print, no guessing at production numbers, etc. The seasonal sets sold out quickly because they sell out quickly EVERY year and EVERY season. They are interesting sets with cute builds. As a parent, I love buying these for my kids, and they love them as decorations around the house. I do think some bricklinkers pick up mass quantities of some sets for specific pieces, but then they sell off the rest. But the rest of the pieces that are sold on Bricklink take away sales from TLG. Their net-net is the same regardless. -
Do you want the Lego collectible bubble to burst?
kibosh replied to Gomek's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes, but how many AFOLs do you know that spend that much? How many AFOLs are in your actual circle of friends? Not counting AFOLs I have met through our LUG, I know of NO other AFOLs. None from work, my friends, family members, parents from my kid's schools, parents form their sports teams, etc. Even if I purchase as many as 50 kids, I know several hundred kids with parents that don't buy LEGO at all. We are a tiny percentage of sales. Yes, a set is already designed, but are parts still available? Look how hard it is to get all the parts to make one. Are all those parts currently in production? If not, could they be put back into production cheaply and easily? If not, there goes the price up even more, and your market decreases. -

I hope they re-release the Falcon, too. It will give them an opportunity to improve on it further. The fact is, LEGO cannot keep every set in production indefinitely. They have to retire them at some point or we would never get anything new. They only have so much production capacity and so much market demand. -

TLG does not care AT ALL how much people have spent purchasing the UCS Falcon on the after market. It doesn't affect them one little bit. Nor do I for that matter. I believe there are a couple reasons a re-release has not happened yet, and neither has anything to do with the public. One, the product cycle is probably longer than we imagine. It was until well after the UCS Falcon was clearnaced off that people started paying ridiculous amounts of money for it. Maybe they are planning a re-release, but it will take years of planning, designing, etc. and they have to find a window of opportunity that does not conflict with the already scheduled pipeline of product. Second, with inflation, a release of the Falcon would be prohibitively expensive. The UCS went from $150 to $200, did it not? Logic would show a $500 set could now easily be $625.
