Help with Digital Renders
mocbuild101 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've recently started experimenting with rendering (and animating) Lego models in Blender, and (so far) I've found it to be both quicker and more realistic than POV-Ray. Most of the models I've been rendering were built in LDraw (format), but all the LDD models I've tested were converted with Stud.io (which I'm also just beginning to use), with no parts missing. My advice would be to persist with getting your LDD model(s) imported into Blender, as it's not only easier to adjust the renders, but you can do tons of other things once it's in Blender.- 26 replies

Instruction pages to parts list?
mocbuild101 replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There are a few ways of doing it, and this topic lists most of them: -
Here's my thoughts... Good, but not very creative.. Too long. Nice, but could be misread as "Low Bow". Sound like a name for a puzzle... Good, but a bit too similar to Lego's "Tracked Racer". Does it fly? Very good, but not really a name... Personally, I don't think the right name has been found yet...

New Parts for LGEO Library

Great, thanks, I will make sure to backup the lg_defs.inc file if I use yours. Will do, but hopefully I won't need to... -
New Parts for LGEO Library
mocbuild101 replied to Darats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, I've recently re-installed LDraw (using AIOI) on my new computer, and just want to double check what I need to do to use your LGEO parts (as I have forgotten what I did last time... ) By what I understand, all I need to do is copy the parts and the xml file to they're default directories, overwriting anything that's already there... or have I missed something? -
Drift Demon

Nice! It's very skeletal, but I guess that's good if it's designed for performance -
If you have compared the MOCs in those forums, you should be able to see why... Well, because they're indexes... But I agree that they should be updated more often. For discussion of the previously speculated sets. (I think...) Yeah, I noticed that too - when I edited a post, all the quotes turned pink... Don't know, I guess there's no other better place to put them... I agree, it also gives members a chance to add their thoughts before a MOC is finished. Yeah, there should be more information about the hidden features...

Not sure... MOC front-paging/showcasing. Guides, problem solving topics (they've helped me many times). Games (they're fun, but not very useful). Not sure really, but it might be good for showcasing MOCs. No. Less (not at all).

That would be a good idea... You can see it when you hover over a member's avatar

[AMS-2] Dragify Your Set
mocbuild101 replied to letsbuild's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That should be cool... I'd say just use the airtank - how would you even power the compressor? Anyway, I've done a lot since I last posted, and I'm also just about finished, with only the drive-train left to assemble (it's got a few gears in it). As for what set it is, you'll have to wait and see... -

It's the Unsorted Lego Car! Not really sure what else to say... It really just looks like it's formed itself out of a pile of Lego... (in a good way) -
Testing 31313

Yes, you can either use the EV3's brick-programing, port view, motor control, or all three. -

Well it isn't exactly inside it... Great start anyway, it's much more than I've done... -
Agreed - especially the way it moves... I guess it also confirms what I said in my signature... +1

Other than mechanically connecting them, my only thought would be to split the system in half - have a separate mini-pump for each cylinder, and synchronize those.

Yes, it would be great to have more mini-contests (like TC13) to supplement the bigger ones. They're great, but it would be good to have some more information about them - I myself don't know what most of them are for... Yes, in fact, that's how I first found Eurobricks! No (I'd rather be building MOCs), but I have looked at them before... No, I don't use either of those sites... Yes, (see my "about me" page below). I use Bricksafe. The Technic forum is where I start, but I always have a look around the other forums. BTW, I've been thinking about making Lego quiz (a hard one) for awhile, so if you think that would a good idea, let me know...

[AMS-2] Dragify Your Set
mocbuild101 replied to letsbuild's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great, I was planing on using a PF/buggy motor combo, so I'm glad I can still use them Not really sure how you'd be able to fit that in a set... -

Cool, I've been thinking of building something like that (fast motorized car), so this is perfect! BTW, the rules probably should also state "no modified parts" - I have seen modified motors before...
