Have you tried contacting the person who built the model on flickr to ask them how it is done?

Looking good so far, think of a name for it!!

London Transport 0-6-0pt Pannier ex-GWR 5700 (WIP)
Hrw-Amen replied to Srbandrews's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice engine, would be good to get it going but I appreciate all the space requirements for PF. I have to say that I agree BBB Medium sized wheels would look better but that s just my opinion so feel free to ignore me.- 26 replies

[MOC] Wickham Type 4 Track Inspection Trolley
Hrw-Amen replied to Srbandrews's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Dark red is much better, looks nice. -
Well I have built one, It was originally on a 32 X 32 baseplate with one line ending at the rear and one as a through from front to back going under the 2nd storey and out across the road. See my flckr album for those of you who have not seen it before. I have extended it to the side adding a 14X32 baseplate to mae two through rails but this is aseperate building and does not detract form just using the single one if you wanted to. Also the platforms can & have been extended at the back to make them longer, again not somethng that has to be done but as a train fan something I wanted to do. These are also on seperate baseplates and can be attached using technic pins as normal for modulars. So it is doable as a small 32X32 if you want and also as a bigger station if you then wish to add extra modules to it.

I like this little diesel engine, It is typical of the many industrial engines out there.

Looks nice for a small layout. Wish I had the room. Nice to see some sidings as well for goods transfer and the tunnel is a good space saver and allows as you said for extra scenery. I think the only thing I would say is that I think the track would look better ballasted and maybe all mounted on baseplates, but I know that can be a brick/money/time expensive thing to accomplish. Good start though so keep us up to date with any advances that you make please.

Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces
Hrw-Amen replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sounds interesting, looks good on the website as well although will need to see how much shipping to UK comes in at. Can someone post some pictures with standard LEGO tracks alongside once set up so we can judge how it looks please, I am guessing apart from the radius assuming we opt for DBG it should be identical? Also can we be assured that if we order some and then want some more that the site will be stocked and we will not be left unable to procure further purchases should we wish? I am hoping for the best with this product as we are so much in need of these wider radius rails, but want a few reviews before I comit to what for me would be a reasonable amount of money. -
MOC: Swedish T44 PF loco with remote decoupling
Hrw-Amen replied to Selander's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'd love to have the knowledge to build these decoupling units into a couple of my shunters, it is so clever but I just cannot figure it out. I have looked at some diagrams but not being familiar with technic stuff i am not sure what many of the parts are, or are from. I think I'd need one in the flesh so as to speak to actually see how it goes together and works. I do really like the engines though, just wish I could could have this.- 11 replies

Very nice to see such a huge set of wagons for something so specific and realistic looking. I like the Bogie design as well, may get used at some point.

I think when I was a kid I had the same problem with official sets although admittedly it is hard to recall examples as it was over forty years ago. I think though that for me most of the fun I had was building my own stuff as I had a lot more bricks than actual sets. I think in doing this I made stuff that for me was solid enough, as I built it solid as I went to withstand what I wanted to do with it. I am sure that I over bulked certain points because I wanted it to hold together when I played with it and that was an important part of the learning curve. As i got older my models got more refined but then I also became more careful with them and more able to control my actions which in turn lead to less falling off. I can see how it can be frustrating for children nowadys as less and less is just bricks and more actual models, but hopefully as he gets older things will improve for your son and he will learn the limitations of the sets and build as he likes and can manage. There is nothing wrong with him adding an extra bracing part herte and there if it helps him have more fun with a set. As I said i did it all the time. (And still do with some things!)

Very Medieval and Star Warsy! However would the King just stand around using an ATM? I think he would have his man servant to do that sort of thing for him? Or security Guard, or for that matter if he is the King then he just gets what he wants without having to pay!

I think just going on what looks right is the best way to go with most things LEGO and Mini-figure based.

Well, it is a bit feminine in its colour scheme I guess, but many of those colours are hard to get in quantity anywhere else and it does have some useful animals and bits like that. So I have bought sets (Being a man.) simply for those parts. Also my wife (Being a woman.) is much more interested in collecting Friends LEGO than she is CITY or any of the other themes and has quite a large collection. She has recently asked for Disney Princesses as well, so you know the girls seem to like it. How can that be sexist to give people what they actually want?

4-6-2 LNER Class A3 4472 'Flying Scotsman'
Hrw-Amen replied to Paperballpark's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks really good, i must get back into steam next year after so many diesels. -
It used to be Classic Space specifically Blacktron, but nowadays I'd have to say trains, but ones MOC rather than the official sets, although I get them as well.

MOC: "State of Maine" BAR boxcar (7-wide)
Hrw-Amen replied to MaineBrickFan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Really good translation of this rail car into LEGO. -
I have a ton of it. I have to say that I have used some on wider radius curves. I use it between regular curves in order to run two tracks next to each other and have roughly the same distance apart all the way around. This is great if it is (Like mine.) connected to a baseplate, but rubbish if it is just flat on the floor. If used unbaseplated the trains just push it out of shape. Overall I use as little as possible as it is ugly and does not look good with other tracks. It takes a lot of hiding to fit it in any way so it is not obvious. I would much rather they just had straight, curved and flexi boxes. I could have probably got away with just buying one or maybe two boxes of flexi track rather than having loads of it in a bag not used for anything.

So much great detail in this MOC, especially like the pit lane and where the safety car looks as though it is about to come out, no doubt in response to the crash? I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the race track to give it a bit less 'squashed' look, but I know these things can be curtailed by space allowaces at exhibitions and such. Nevertheless an excellent exhibit and I would have loved to see it in real life. Thanks for all the fantastic details.

Wow, these look really good, i was not expecting them to look this good or to be out this quick.

The least LEGO-like line?
Hrw-Amen replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think most of those action figure ranges are not really very LEGo like. They have very little brick like connections. -

Looking really great so far, love the idea of the canal bed with all the stuff, plants, fish, crabbs, junk that you can see through the surface water. Good idea.

Very nice cars for the CITY folk to drive around in. It is good to see some realistic looking vehicles.
