All I can say is that down here in the south west we have no overhead cables on our lines. I am trying to think where the nearest ones are, they must be getting on for near to London as I just cannot recall seein them anywhere around here where I live. We have several quaries the load up hopper wagons and are taken out by train, I think they must be diesels then as like I said no overhead cables. I know that I have seen a number of Type 08 shunters around locally as well as bigger main line engines, but i could not tell you what types they are. We certainly do have lots of third rail eletric though which most of our passenger trains seem to be.

In the UK we see lots of locomotives that are similar in shape and size to the Yellow cargo train. I am not an expert so do not know the names of these engines. Most do not use overherad pantographs thought and are either diesel or pick up electricity froma third line. They are not bright yellow I will admit, but the design is similar.

In the UK the large cups are £12.00 but if you bring back an old one to reuse (Including the lid.) you get 25p off so they are £11.75 then,

Finding them in a PAB wall would be wonderful, but the need to buy many cups or a whole case wouldm prove expensive. I have also come up against this problem and have ended up using them just a few columns of them then sandwiched between different bricks or plates. I think a 1 X 4 will help, but what would be really useful would be a 1X1 version for the ends of overlapped walls etc. I like the one from 62Bricks though, that does look good, but still we need a 1X1 at the ends, at the moment we just have to use a plain one. The same problem occurs when building the wooden type walls such as in western forts or buildings. There we can get around it sort of with 1X1 round bricks, but it is not the same really.

ASK HERE MOC-stuck? Ask for general building advice here!
Hrw-Amen replied to mrklaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
How about rather than having the brick the right way up, you turn it upside down. That way the axle could still go into the button to turn it on and off an the light would still be directed down for the most part like you want. You would just have to rig some way of holding the light brick upside down, but will all the brackets and modified bricks available that is not something that is too difficult. -
Not sure about the station, there are a few bits that don't look right. For example there is a tall structure that covers the track but it is too short to be a roof over the platform/track. Also a small bucket shaped thing half way up the wall, looks like the bottom half of a large rock? The station appears more cargo terminal of some type than passenger station at least from what I can see, which admittedly is not much? Seems to have a taxi though?

Nice trains, I agree they are a bit long, but as you say getting all the PF stuff in is tricky and sometimes compromises have to be made. Good job though, should look good with custome rods on them.

The white passenger one does really look like a Playmobill set! Still when we get better images it may look better. The blue diesel looks a whole lot better though. So that is promising, it will be nice to see what comes with each set by way of trackside features and other wagfons. Will the white passenger train have a dummy power car at the back like our current red one, or will we have to buy two like the HE to get a proper train? It could all impact on the price if we have to buy two of them especially if they are not that good. By the way anyone know anything about the eskimo theme that seems to be shown, seems to have an interesting new dog in it?

Went to Cardiff last week for my annual post Christmas shopping trip with the wife, ended up with 8 large cups and got just over 6000 elements in total. Lucky for me they also had what I assume in the years gone by would have gone into grab bags, a big square container (About two foot square and deep.) filled with random bits of old models they had taken off display and broken down, so two of my cups were filled from this. Not quite to neatly packed but a much richer and potentially useful selection of grey, white, black, dark green and dark blue plates, jumpers, and all sorts of things. Took ages to dig through them all but an kindly staff member brought me a chair as I am crippled and found it hard to stand there doing it. Cardiff was incredibly busy at the PAB wall with mothers and fathers doing most of the pushing, getting irate, it was a relief to have something to sit on out of the way. There is not much room for people who have to use a walking frame at the wall! Still it was a very good trip, also picked up some sets and mini-figures from the movie. All very nice.

MOC: Monorail Train Station with "Schweineschnaeuzchen"
Hrw-Amen replied to Dirk1313's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That is a a really nice station and engine/railbus. It is something different that you do not see every day and it goes well with the winter village stuff as being from a similar era. -
Anything built without the aid of a manual or construction information is a MOC (Even remembered instructions count.) whereas anything that you build with instructions is and then modify at some point is a MOD.

3 meters long Octan train with 7777 oil refinery
Hrw-Amen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It is nice to see the train in Octan colors and a good idea. We have quite a few large private companies (Such as oil refineries and other power plant, steal works etc.) who have their own little shunters to use on their own sites. I could see this assembling longer trains on the company's marshaling yards ready for the main line trains to take them off onto where ever they are due to end up. It is a good idea, I may have to borrow it. -
The price seems a bit up on what we already have? Maybe that means it will have a bit more included in the sets by way of play features?

You think thst is a lot of luggage for a honeymoon! My wife takes that much for a weekend! Nice build though, it does still resemble a locomotive but with a nice door and interior space for all that luggage. Well done with that build.

I like your army. I have built a similar sized one using the newer LR troops. It is good to line them all up isn't it, they look impressive like the whole regiment on the march at once. One thing I have done as I found it hard to get the older western sets cavalry troopers is to use the half a dozen or so of the old ones I did manage to get as officers leading my main army sections. It is a good way of distinguishing them from the everyday troopers but still leaving them as part of the overall theme. It is also good to see that you have the limber for your cannons, but maybe you need a few more horses there to pull them? Very good though overall, I like the wagons very much, something I have not been able to buy, all my wagons are open which is a shame really, your are much better.

A Really nice dragon there. I hope that they do a Smaug set at some point and that it is a nice big one. I think maybe your dragon is a little small for Smaug as he looks long and thin in the film and in most depictions of him I have seen. Don't get me wrong though, I really like your dragon. Maybe it could be son of Smaug!

Hairpieces that are overused and underused in Lego history?
Hrw-Amen replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Was not the Team GB horse rider hair/hat bit the same as the one used in the Friends line meaning that there has been at least one cross over between friends and mini-figures? It may have been a different color I do not have them to hand to check, but i am sure the bit was the same. -
It is a little unclear from the photos and you do not seem to mention it so I am guessing the answer is no, but it does look in the initial photo on the front-page as though the Sharon Mini-figure has a pot belly, sort of looks that way from your pictures as well as the light focuses on that point, but there is no side on shot to see for sure?

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
Hrw-Amen replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have to agree that I think the main problem with them producing something that looks like a tank is that regardless of if it is a WWII tank or a modern MBT, essentially in LEGO it is a grey or green box on tracks with a gun in a turret. The difference in looks is not that great. Even looking at a WWI tank, although many did not have turrets they were still boxes with tracks and guns. Most of the older conflict themes, pirates, knights are so far removed from our modern military that they do not even look the part so can easily be relegated to a historical context. Maybe in a few years if tanks become a thing of the past, a bit like the battleship, which I gather from recent conflicts seems to be the way it is going then LEGO will not have a problem producing a generic one as it will not be something that is so easily connected to a modern day army. But that day is not yet here, and as much as we may like it to be, they are quite rightly (In my opinion.) not going to produce anything like that until we do reach that point in history and then some on top of it just for good measure. Otherwise we would by now already have a model of a battleship, as obsolete as these now are they are still in our living memory! -
This is a very nice and interesting truck. I will probably get it for the variety in my CITY as it is not something I have thought of making myself yet. I have to say that as with most of these sets the plane version does not really do anything for me. It looks like the kind of thing that a five year old would make having had the truck built for them by a parent and then bits being pulled off and used elsewhere, then the rest dragged out of the toy box and random bits stuck on to make a rubbish plane. But i guess that is the whole point of them isn't it? It is exactly the sort of thing I would have done when i was five and thought it cool! It is good to see though that so many of these sets can be made into a 'sensible' model for us AFOLs as well as a good plaything for our younger friends. In that way the set appeals to all and is in the true nature of what LEGO is all about!

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Hrw-Amen replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Can I ask a question, well OK, I know i can. Does anyone know with the initial release sets, do they all have the ability to be built as a 'sensible' model (Ie. Like the dustcart & ice cream van.) as this will be a major feature for me in buying them. Looking on the LEGO shop website it is not entirely clear from the box art. Some look as though they should but do not show images that they can be.for example 70813 Rescue Reinforcements looks like it will rebuild as a fire engine, but does not show that on the box front and there is no image of it either?- 2,626 replies

REVIEW: 70809 Lord Business' Evil Lair
Hrw-Amen replied to Clone OPatra's topic in Special LEGO Themes
A good review but it is hard to put this set as well as some of the others into context of what exactly bits are for and what part they play in the movie until we have actually seen the movie. The same with some of the mini-figures, like the elderly cops here. Also I am not sure of the connection between the two kities, are they the same one, but evil'ified or what? I think there is still a lot we need to know about the story before we can post judgment on some of these sets and how they relate to each other?- 45 replies

Question regarding Power Functions Motors
Hrw-Amen replied to Paperballpark's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You have to think about it a bit more certainly, but I have found an XL motor to be the best if you are not using the proper train one. I have a couple of engines I have built using that one. I have not had a lot of success with the M Motor to be honest. I have tried it but found it very hard to get any speed out of. Great for pulling but only at a snails pace. I know people will say it needs to be geared right and a lot of MOCS have more than one M motor but i have never tried that so cannot comment. -
When I do this I simply add one of the switches to reverse the polarity, usually on the rear motor, but I don't think it matters which. Then plug both into the same side of the IR unit, one on top of the other. (Plugs that is, one from the first motor and the other from the polarity switch.) Paperballpark:- Usually it is because of the wires coming out of the motor and the way the motor then wants to turn in corners. It just does not work if the wires come out of the rear (or front.) of both motors.
