Nice work, definitely feels like 3677, which is good. Whenever I'm building a 4-wide section with the battery box, such as for a BR Class 08, I will tend to cheat and cover it with some paper of the same colour as the rest of the model. You, however, have created a locomotive without any modification or cheating, and it looks pretty good. Well done! Have you considered putting lights in it?

How to create more than one quote into a post?
ColletArrow replied to Carrera124's topic in Forum Information and Help
Like this? Simply highlight the text you wish to quote, and hit the "quote this" button that pops up. I'm sure I found that by accident. -
Yep. I have to admit, it isn't completely my idea, - I searched Google for "lego pantograph", saw this, changed it a little and put it on. I had thought it might flop, but I had no way for testing it. Would it be better if the 2 and 1 arm sections were swapped over? That way, only the head would droop (I think).

Neat! Full of light, life and character... although, do I want to know what's in that tank on the roof?

The photos you've shown so far are excellent overview shots, but the very specific focus makes it hard to appreciate the fine points. In the first image for example, although the firebox and cab are perfect, we can't see the tender very well which is odd as it is the foremost item in the frame. For close-up shots, your phone camera is probably fine, if you pay attention to lighting and the autofocus. Consider this: from a 'noob' position you can only get better, and you can only get better through practice! I can't wait to see more of this gorgeous locomotive!

Welcome to the community both! It's good to see new faces (or at least avatars ), I was one only a year ago. @Charette That's a good layout, and a perfectly sized space to fit it in. Seeing as you have 2x 60052, have you considered joining the gantry cranes together, either as a longer one or a wider one? @FLBRICKS That's one way to start! I look forward to seeing more MOCs from you.

Perfect! I think all the modifications you made to the nose look better, I was only trying to replicate the pictures we saw. I'm still not decided on the handrails; I prefer not to include them as they look over-scaled, but that's probably just me. All the other mods are so small they're barely noticeable. I think the 1x1 tile groove could also be solved by using older parts, that also won't have the groove, but your method is pretty neat. Incidentally, how well do the pantographs hold up?

42069 - C MODEL
ColletArrow replied to Dyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Having seen the video of functions, this is spectacular for a C-model of a set. I love the deploying system for the winch, and the amount of openable doors. The rotor control works very well too. This easily should have been the B-model, so very different from the A-model and yet within the same theme and with the same parts. Outstanding work.- 53 replies

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
ColletArrow replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's quite likely we'll see something WiFi/Bluetooth based in the new trains, probably/hopefully a new combined battery box/receiver. I personally think it's unlikely to be compatible with current PF though, thus limiting its uses until we get some more motors. On which note, as the motor won't/can't be in that block for a train, we're probably/hopefully getting at least a new train motor. Whatever happens, it's certainly exciting. -
Really? I couldn't tell... Great storytelling as usual. As this is on a shelf, do you think you could suspend the craft from the shelf above on strings instead of resting on 2x2 clear round bricks, or is it too heavy?

Sounds interesting! I've searched for Saint Saëns on YouTube. I like his work, especially Carnival of the Animals and Danse Macabre. Pretty good stuff for revising to. Oh, and the incessant rain outside.

Yep, picture's fine. Ah well, at least it looks cool. I guess you could place the wheels on 21445 1x2 with wheel holder if you wanted to pose them inline. Still, love the saucepans and sausages for detailing work. The representation of the crankshaft for the rear axle is pretty cool, especially given it's a detail you're hardly going to see.

42069 - C MODEL
ColletArrow replied to Dyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Impressive work! Fits the theme pretty well too. I love the wheel-arches on the tail, it's an excellent example of re-purposing specialised parts. Well done.- 53 replies

That's really neat, especially impressive for a first MOC. Mine were never that good to begin with! Could you show some pictures with the loco larger in the frame, and slightly more of it in focus? Some pictures of details would be welcome too. Excellent work overall.

That's pretty neat. I don't think I realised those tyres fitted to see wheels so well! I would love to see the undercarriage too; I'm interested in how you managed to make the front wheels steer. Great job overall!

I saw a theory somewhere that's essentially: the train sets will be out for~ 4 years, wheras technic is only ~1-2. Therefore, if sometime around, say, 2020 they wanted to switch entirely to PF 2.0, but the train sets on the market were still using PF 1.0, it would be harder and less consistent. They can also use the trains as a test-bed I suppose, due to a simpler requirement of functions. Even if this does mean we've only had 6 train sets (in two waves) with PF 1.0 in them. See the funny thing is, I've grown up with LEGO's red hard hats. That colour now automatically feels 'right' to me for minifigs, even though red hats are much rarer IRL. Can we tell what torsos the train company minifgs have? The older orange-and-blue one, or the newer olive-and-orange one? I would have thought they would switch them all to the new version, yet the older one recently appeared in a Juniors set implying it hasn't completely gone yet.

@Murdoch17 I thought that should happen when I re-organised my Bricksafe page, but they still showed fine for me. Are they any better now?

Yep, perfect! (now you've worked out where half of my name came from, haven't you? ) -

Neat! As a representation of the GWR Hall class, it's pretty good! I like the yellow stripes on the cab and tender. I think it could be improved by trying to get a little more shaping into the taller tender, perhaps by simply moving the rear slopes 1 stud towards the cab and adding some SNOT-ed plates to the cab end (google images link). The piston sliders look a little long too, but that's pretty hard to rectify. Maybe using a 7m thin liftarm rather than a 5m would help? Overall though, pretty good! -
@ElectroDiva I like the yellow rails along the top, they complement the ends nicely. Really looking forward to it in real bricks! @Younge Thanks! Apart from the front window, not really. I just guessed on this design, TLG probably would have come up with a better solution. The nose might be a bit weak too, I'm not sure.

That's AWESOME! Thanks! The credit-ing is fine, I suppose it should really go to the LEGO designers as it was their model originally. EDIT: I've re-organised my Bricksafe pages, so here's the new link for more pictures and .lxf files: https://bricksafe.com/pages/Collet22/train-mocs/60189-preliminary-replica

I find most spam these days is pretty mundane, fairly similar and just tiresome. Occasionally, however, I get to report a genuine, written, longer piece, that really makes me smile. Today's was mainly in capitals, and advertising the sale of "HIGH QUALITY UNDETECTABLE COUNTERFEIT BANKNOTES". Again, as its 70 lined long, I've spoilered it. I tried to rhyme my poem this time, and here's what I got. Fake banknotes were boasted For banks, shops and betters It's a shame it was posted In capital letters.

Go ahead! Most of the parts should be there. The grey parts around the cab may need to be altered, such as different door-windows and trans-brown glass. The yellow bumper beneath the nose should really be replaced by 6583, it both looks better and actually exists. Everything else should be there to some degree, and I'm reasonably confident of its structural integrity. I'd love to see this built in real bricks!

Thank you both! @LEGO Train 12 Volts The coupling was inspired by the BR Class 43 HST couplings, where a hatch in the nose fairing has to be opened and a long bar inserted in order to couple us to anything. This was similar, except because I couldn't open up the top of the nose I had to in from beneath. I have no idea how well it would perform in curves, it may need to be longer depending on how far the nose swings out. @Capparezza I have; the loco in them is very small, so it's mainly guesswork, but here you go. In original colours, as close as possible: It feels very BR Class 37/40/55 -ish now I have built one, despite the pantographs. I think the preliminary model looked better, but this is just as good a set. Here's the "Preliminary replica" and "As close to actual release as I can manage" buffer-to-buffer. They're clearly very different locos, despite all that I've changed is the nose and cab shape. I've kept the detailed underframe on the new version, as I can't see what it is from the picture, and I still quite like it. Here it is in 60051's colours, with the better pantographs: ...And finally, in 60051 colours with coaches: Not bad, but I'll let you make your own judgments. I'll probably put the new .lxf on the bricksafe page soon.

So did I! @Sariel did a video review of these products that you might want to check out: I think it's pretty good, but I haven't bought any myself as I have no use for it really.
