LEGO Ninjago 2021
zoth33 replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
@a guy from somewhere That was interesting. Some of those concepts are really good and I hope some get used down the road. What really kills me is the idea of the Lego Ninjago movie going back through time with those knight and those demon looking samurai would have been awesome. Seeing that makes me sad that they didn't go that route. -
I'm not trying to be rude it just seems you were missing my point. I am also trying to engage you in witty banter about the topic. That's why I am asking questions. I was just giving my ideas of things they could possibly do. It came across as if you were attacking all my points by saying what is this never heard of it, like your dismissing all my points just because you don't agree with what I said. If you do a little research you could easily find what I was talking about. And yes I mentioned a lot of races to give examples. All of what I mentioned are all over all forms of fantasy that's why I used the more generic ones. I could have named Ithilids or otherwise known as mindflayers which some might not know what that is. A lot of kids know centaurs, minotaurs, fawns, etc from things like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson or The chronicles of Narnia. You don't have to take away the castle aesthetic if you do fantasy, you can still have castle structures that represent more medieval times. Like I said this would be an ongoing developing story which would change over time.

A lot of nice techniques and designs here. I like the steep roofs on the houses. The castle has some nice coloring and the round towers have some nice texturing. The crenelations looks good. I like the windmill blades. The landscaping is excellent and has a great variety and I like the different tree colors and sizes. I like the vine growing up the church. The water feature and rock work look good, I like the little waterfall. Nice figs too.
-
That's a pretty neat idea. I like the birch tree. The house is nice, I like the window designs.
-
Very well done. I like the texturing on the towers. The arches are nice and I like the way you used the 1x1 rounds. The base has some nice layering. The landscaping is excellent, I really like the tree design.

Who said it had to be medieval? Were talking about castle which could also be fantasy oriented. Also if you have a decently big interest in fantasy then you should know all of those things they are all over fantasy books, games. etc. Hobbits are a type of halfling but that's just what Tolkien uses as their name other writers use other names. Minotaurs are all over the fantasy genre like the Chronicles of Narnia, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, etc. Mer-people once again in a lot of fantasy books. Vampires all over fantasy. Draconians are from Dragonlance. Demons lego has done before in Nexo knights those are demons even if the word wasn't used also NInjago has Oni which means demon. Also there are many Were races not just wolves within the fantasy genre. Do you read fantasy at all, or play fantasy video games or table top games like D&D or Magic? All of the things I mentioned are all over the fantasy genre. I was just giving example of races they could use over several years not all at once. Read my post. Secondly I'm not here to come up with a tv show for you. I was just citing examples they could draw from. I have ideas for my own fantasy/castle lego world. That's what I was saying you could do this over several years not just a one shot season. Did you read what I said or are you just trying to argue. I was literally just saying that lego could do something interesting in the castle/fantasy line if they wanted. Right they could make things interesting by keeping it fresh and changing things up. Ok but I was just answering Lego Davids original question. They could do it through several mediums like a show, comic or book or even do an online series. However they do it would be up to Lego. I was just saying they could do something really interesting that both kids and adults would like if they did it right. Or even aim it at teens/adults.

Nice concept. I like the gold accents and the sand.

Not what I was thinking. Like I said you could swap out some main characters during seasons by having them off on another adventure at the time and make location based sets too. Like the story in legend of Zelda, yes you will have a lot of repeat characters, but that's how you build a story. If you change the characters each season no one will be invested in it. Look at the elves line they had a story driven by the characters if you change the characters very season the story goes no where. I'm also not saying it has to last as long as Ninjago. They could do a run of 3-4 years then end that story and pick up another storyline with a character that was introduced during the first run and expand a popular secondary characters story arc. and so on. I did not mean like Ninjago with a ton of vehicles but Ninjago has some very nice location based sets too. But you have to build a story with the characters over time not just one off things it won't work. Just think of it like in fantasy adventure books like Dragonlance. You have the original trilogy of the Dragonlance chronicles and then there was spin offs for the twins Raistlin and Caramon. Also books telling the backstories of other characters like Tanis, Sturm, etc. Or even another example like the Elder Scrolls Online where you have a main cast of characters used in the game and they explore different areas of the world in each dlc. Then certain character dissappear for a while then their story returns at a later time. Just think of the possibilities if they could pull something like that off. There would be so many different location based play sets and different seige engines, carts, carriages, etc they could build. They also could make so many different races like gnomes, elves, dwarves, men, halflings, centaurs, minotaurs, ogres, orcs, vampires, gargoyles, demons, trolls, mer-people, werewolves, wererats, imps, dragon men, draconians, etc. And they could make several different factions within each like Sea Elves, Forest Elves, Moon Elves, etc. It could be epic if done right and would keep kids and adults interested with different races and factions within the races to explore.

@Lego David To answer your question as it seems some people have missed the point of your question. I think if they did a story driven theme along the lines of something like Legend of Zelda would definitely fit in with kids. To that point stories like the Hobbit which are aimed at kids. If they were to do something like that I think kids would enjoy the adventure side of those stories and really gravitate to the main characters. And with stories akin to those you could definitely do several years worth of content. My 10 year old is reading Wings of Fire and really enjoying it. You really need something fantastical with kids these days to keep them interested, it can't just be knights against bad knights. I think you would need dragons, kids love dragons. You could throw in different races like elves, dwarves, humans, fawns, centaurs, orcs, trolls, goblins, etc. to make things different for kids than just your normal bad guys versus good guys. You could even try things like vampires, gargoyles, and werewolves for a wave to mix things up. Even do different demon like baddies like tree demons, Ice demons, fire demons. The story could evolve each year with a core group of heroes that adds heroes each season and maybe have certain characters arcs develop a story for each season and then after and have it culminate with a couple or more seasons to tie all the stories together.

The skull sorcerers dragon was a set that was better than my expectations. The dragon is just so impressive and I think is the best brick built dragon lego has made. I also have firstborn and the skull sorcerers dragon just looks better and more menacing. I also just recently got flower fruit mountain and the blacksmith shop and both of those are great builds and display pieces with some great techniques. Sets that underwhelmed me were some of the Chima sets felt clunky along with a few of the Nexo knights sets. The builds were what I had problems with, the figs in both lines were great in my opinion.

I got some nice storage drawers recently. Filled up the first one with plant pieces. Still have a ton of sorting to do. Getting closer to getting everything sorted for now. Still need more wooden shelves and some more drawers. It's amazing what you find while your sorting, parts you forgot you had or never realized you had. With all the sets I bought so far this year and the ones I'm planning on buying I'm might actually fill up the entire room but I still have a lot of sorting and organizing to do. I already have 2 shelving units filled up with sets that have 4 shelves a piece. My wife thinks I have to many bricks but I don't have nearly enough to build the castle displays I want to. In the same room I do have some nascar collectables and some sports stuff. I'm hoping to have things squared away sometime this summer and then take some pictures of the room when it's all sorted and organized.

It just doesn't feel like her season from the first 2 episodes. But I guess we will find out soon. I'm hoping to get Keepers village soon as it was not in stock last week. The jungle dragon is a very nice build and the dragon itself looks great. Ninjago's dragons do look really good. The skull sorcerer's dragon is still my favorite but the jungle dragon is a wonderful build and looks good next to flower fruit mountain set from the monkie kid. -

I just hope with the upcoming 3in1 castle set they will have it stocked better for the torso's. Until then it's the luck of the draw for me. -
Their trying to cancel speedy again too. It's pretty sad if you ask me. I grew up watching looney tunes. I liked watching Pepe and Speedy and all the others. I mean look at some of the cartoons they have now and what they are pushing. People really need to relax and take things as they are and not what they think it means. But back on topic. I really hope Sylvester is in it as he was my favorite growing up.

Built flower fruit mountain and what a great set. I love the structure itself and all the rock work is done really nicely. The waterfall is nice and I like that is separates. I think I'm going to add some more leaf pieces and flowers around the build. The minifigs are great and looks pretty good with all my Monkey King CMF's on it too. I also ordered some extra Monkey king head pieces and Macaque head pieces for custom figs. I really hope they do more builds like this it was fun to build and just looks awesome on display.

Do you mean Nya's season is 15? -
That's great but you have no proof that kids think this way. Also HP sets smack in the middle of the kingdoms line during 2010-2011 in which kingdoms sold well and is still well liked. I'm saying Lego could release adult oriented castle sets which you just said worked with the Hobbit and the 2013 castle line. Lego can do it if they release the right sets people will still buy them and it won't hurt HP at all because most die-hard HP fans aren't into castle sets. I will still buy HP sets that interest me figure or build wise even if they release castle sets.
-
They did castle along with the Hobbit and they had HP and castle out at the same time before so this logic doesn't make sense. Plus who said they had to aim a castle theme toward kids as they are doing a lot more afol related sets. If they find castle sells well with adults like the blacksmith shop they might think about doing a line aimed at adults. My 10 year old does not relate castle to HP at all.

Nicely designed. I like the wall and the tower, they have some good texturing. The trees look good and nice book.

But a minidoll head is not the same as a minifig head and I know you can use the hair pieces from a minidoll on a minifig but that may not work if its a mask over the minidoll head. Personally I think the minidoll mold is to skinny for Piglet but I do see the what you are saying. Also they could've done something like they did with Bombur from the Hobbit and have a molded belly piece attached to the head, that might have looked better.

I have the skull sorcerer's dragon too. Such a great looking dragon. It's very impressive even next to firstborn. Work got in the way today so hoping to build the jungle dragon tomorrow. I'm sure they will do a space theme. I would like some different aliens too. -
This is nice. i like the use of that raised baseplate. The mod works very well here, the river is a nice touch. The stable in the back is a neat idea too.

My son and I both just got the jungle dragon and will probably build tomorrow. Looks really nice. I can't wait to see what it looks like next to firstborn or the skull dragon. The lego store had all but the keeper's village. Hopefully they will have that soon as it's sold out online. -

The Atlantis vibes are strong here even with there villains little vehicles, reminds me of Aquaman in the movie. This season is going to be interesting.
