  1. I like this a lot. I can see what fellow members Yevhen and Captainmib mean about the weak point in the extended tracks but I wouldn’t have thought I’d take much to sort out. Great work nonetheless.
  2. Great to see you back working on the Iskes Telstar Edwin. The engines etc, look really good and the illuminated wheelhouse is terrific . I look forward to seeing this project progress.
  3. Like is an understatement. That’s some really excellent work you've done there. The 8043 and the Mack are both very much improved by your changes which I might have to implement on mine when I build them.
  4. What a terrific build. George has seen this and really wants to build it and he can due to your kindness in making free instructions available soon. Thank you.
  5. Building Time 8hrs 15min - Total Build Time 51hrs 25mins Fitting the sub assemblies around the superstructure, a task that should have been quick and easy but thanks to a lack of clear vision & coordination caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure (a regular quirk of my condition) and my reluctance to stop (there’s that stubbornness thing again) things proved particularly problematic. I put parts together incorrectly & more often than not put them in wrong place and I’m sure I must have broken more parts off the build than I was trying to fit. Take my word for it, reattaching parts for the sixth or seventh time is particularly frustrating. As is usually the case, after half hour or so with my ‘chair tipped back the BP was north of stupid so normal service was resumed and all parts soon assembled correctly and fitted in the right place. Building the boom was straightforward and, for me anyways, reasonably quick. It's a big ol' thing and feels very solid helped I'm sure by being clad with a plethora of panels and dog bone Liftarms. While building I’ve been wondering whether a 3 stage boom along the lines of the one Christophe Moittie came up with for the Ultimate 42009 would be worthwhile addition to the RTC. From what I could see of my U42009 sitting up on the shelf the two booms aren’t too dissimilar in size. I'm curious to know whether anyone else has tried it? When I get time I might try knocking one up just to see what equipping it with a 3 stager looks like. Until then the original will surfice. With just the superstructure's panelling and the operator's cabin to do the end of this build is in sight. Apologies for the number of pics.
  6. . Yes, it's not a pretty sight at the moment. They'll get good tidy up when I have time. Thankfully they're not in as much of a tangle as those in the chassis
  7. Building Time 7hrs 30min - Total Build Time 43hrs 10mins Just a quick update as I’ll not have time to build for the next week. Yellow liftarm only used for support while taking photo.
  8. So creative, very cool and in my opinion, way better than the donor set. Great work.
  9. Thank you my Friend. The build's going pretty well. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have a think and come up with something to keep those 3L axles in place.
  10. Building Time 9hrs 15min - Total Build Time 35hrs 40mins Happily building's been problem free so none of my usual ramblings are needed. The axle is only temporary. It’s just being used to stop the LA’s shortening/extending during the fitting of the sub assemblies. Yellow liftarm is only being used as a prop while taking photo
  11. Thank you my Friend. I did consider reducing the cylinder count by 2 but as you know, I’m such a fan of building LEGO engines, especially in V configuration, that I didn’t want to deprive myself of all that fun . Truth is I did consider changing the engine to a V6 but I wanted to keep the builds appearance as close to the original as possible. I know I replaced the orange fan with a grey one but there’s only so much original a man can take .
  12. Building Time 6hrs 30min - Total Build Time 26hrs 25mins A couple of days building with I feel good progress made. I'd have gotten more done were it not for me making a couple of silly mistakes which, although only minor, were time consuming to put right.
  13. Great looking MOC, easily recognisable. Well done.
  14. That is SO cool. I Love it!
  15. Immediately recognisable, a fantastic build. Great stuff
  16. Great build. We had one of these towering over our house yesterday pumping concrete to a neighbours property.
  17. I couldn't bring myself to fit the orange fan. I just couldn't do it, it's an abomination. As for the size. Yep, it's a biggie alright and is indeed heavy, more so than I thought it'd be. It's going to be getting much heavier though as there's the superstructure still to build with it's 3 motors and a battery box and then there's that big ol' jib.
  18. Building Time 8hrs 20min - Total Build Time 20hrs 55mins Sorry but a lack of time means this is just a quick progress update posted now so as not to make the next post too photo heavy. I’ll do a write up if/when I get chance.
  19. Building Time 7hrs 15min - Total Build Time 12hrs 35mins After several chaotic days it’s really good to have some time to build. Before going any further I must apologise for there being no photo of the second axle assembly prior to fitting. Now, I could blame Jim by saying I just copied him as he didn’t show the second axle assembly in his excellent review of the 42082 because apart from a couple of differently coloured parts it’s pretty much identical to the first and that’s how it is on this build. I could blame Jim but I won’t (more like daren’t!) as last time I ‘messed’ with our esteemed leader he added Old Fart to my profile! Truth is I was so focused on building it completely escaped my tiny little mind to take a photo before fitting it to the main assembly. I would like to have had one if only for my own build album but hey ho, it’s too late now. Building’s gone really well in this session with the few assemblies etc I thought likely to be problematic proving not to be so. The side storage cabinets on each side of the 42082 have been sacrificed to make way for the batterry box (88000) and Sbrick but to keep this Ultimate version looking the same as the LEGO original the doors remain. Fitting the door (which conseals the on/off button) on the battery box 'enclosure' was a pain to say the least but as I went on long enough about fitting one on my last build, the 42030, I'll spare you from me boring with it all over again. It’s done and that’s all that matters. There’s another one to fit on the opposite side. What joy. Speaking of the other side. The Sbrick and accompanying spaghetti like tangle of cables caused me over an hour of grief. I had difficulty keeping the cables out of the way while fitting parts around them which was a touch frustrating. When bunched up, the cables are quite ‘springy’ and when I try move them out of the way with my stupidly static fingers it’s they that move not the cable. Mr Universe I’m not! Anyways, the parts are on and the cables tucked (not prettily!) inside & out of the way. Unless I’m mistaken, in which case I’m a klutz, when all four ports are being used on an Sbrick you can only stack extra connectors on the upper two. I’ve used Sbricks in several of my builds and in many of the weird and wonderful contraptions Jake, George & Penny and I have built together but I’ve not had cause to stack connectors before now. With this build the Sbrick was going into a confined space but the stacked connectors sat a plate or so proud of the bodywork. Removing from it’s mounting allowed it to be moved back just enough for it to sit flush. I just need to sort out some 1x2 Grille pieces to help conceal it a bit.
  20. OUTSTANDING! Congratulations on the Honda France feature.
  21. As a young man in the UK Merchant Navy and often in Hong Kong I’d sometimes visit a bar in Kowloon called the Waltzing Matilda Inn. With seaman from all corners of the world it could be rough at times but was a great place nonetheless. While furkling about online I came across this, the rules of the house, which should give you an idea of what I mean. I have got an original one of my own in my ‘box of life’ up in the loft which I’d forgotten about until now. I must get the box bought down and see what other treasures are lurking within.
  22. Thank you LucyCol. The £1037 raised will be winging its way to Fairy Bricks very soon.
