I'm having doubts myself now, but I think if I reorganize the minifigs it should fit. It takes up about half the space in the display cabinet, so I think it is doable. I'll order the parts in a couple of days, and we'll see..
-
Yes, but we already know exactly what that looks like and what it does. Yes, you're right, the majority of the new vehicles we've seen in the trailers, leaked imaged and so on. Except for the tank I think. (or at least I only ever saw it in the trailers for those few seconds but there's an off-chance I've missed something.) But yeah, like I said, it might just be me, I don't buy new stuff without seeing the movie to decide if I really like the original enough. I haven't bought any TFA sets either until I saw the movie, but actually not much after that either. However I admit that so far e.g. in comparison with the TFA sets, this wave seems to be much more accurate and all in all just better.

I know we are all FOLs and all, but let's be realistic here: the price is mostly higher because of the 4 letters printed on the boxes/molded in the bricks in the correct order. I don't believe that all the stuff TLG uses is so much better quality that warrants the huge difference in price compared to knockoffs. Sure, I understand that the suspiciously cheap knockoffs are probably sh*t, but there's definitely some copycat brands out there who can do almost the same for less.

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
brobert replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
OR a UCS Cantina playset. Looking at how TLG prefers playsets over collector's items this year, I wouldn't be surprised. -
Alright so this is the latest version, I squeezed in another tree, but now I really have to think about the sizes of the shuttle. I don't think more trees fit without being too packed, maybe one more in the foreground on the left? I've also beefed up the undergrowth a bit. Now I'll have to check how much this all would cost, and place my order. So far I'm happy with it, we'll see how it looks like when built...

As we've seen in the TFA toys as well (granted, not necessarily in LEGO, but it might well be the case there too), they've released toys based on characters who didn't even make the final cut. But yeah that might just be me, I'm buying sets based on things in the movies that I liked, not the other way around.
-
That's the thing you see, there is no way of knowing whether or not these sets are actually accurate...(Except for the AT-ST maybe) and still, everyone is going crazy for them. Ah the power of the Brand is strong with this one.

Thanks, the base size is unfortunately set, since the space I'm working on is confined to the dimensions of the display cabinet. So I will have to find the balance where the forest is dense without being overcrowded, and I kind of like the clearing where the shuttle would land. I'm going to fiddle around a bit more in Mecabricks, then I'm going to place an order for the parts needed and finalize it IRL.

Looks great, you managed to improve an already decent set. The eyelids are a very welcome addition. I was thinking of doing some mods myself, but I don't have many spare parts lying around, so I only replaced the railing with a spare bendable rail from Luke's speeder from the cantina set.
-
Ok, yeah that's a different level :) I will have to work in a much more confined space, so it definitely won't come close to this. About the landing pad, I always imagined that the rebels would land somewhere hidden in the forest, since this is a stolen shuttle, and the imperials would spot them immediately otherwise.

You meant episode VII trooper of course :) I also highly recommend the Slave-I, that was my last purchase, and it's absolutely fantastic. I wouldn't start with a UCS set though. If you start with those, standard sets will always be subpar.

Not sure this topic is really needed, everyone saw the sets, and we already have a Ff topic...

Ucs is the ultimate collectors edition, but this topic is kind of the hornets nest with this year's sets :) I'd recommend some research first. All in all, as someone who also just started collecting Lego a few years ago, I'd start with checking out the current selection e.g. on the official Lego site, pick one you like, and start building, and familiarise with the different building techniques. Also worth keeping an eye on the various custom builds here, and gather ideas for your own build if you feel you'd be into creating something on your own once you're proficient enough.

Yes the tree is far from finished this is just where I passed out last night, and I have plenty more space upwards.

In case anyone's interested, I was in TRU in Switzerland, and the FO general is also available in store, not just online, only they haven't packed out their stock yet...
-
Well, at least you can buy them probably sometime soon, in EU, the AT-ST e.g. is already on backorder...
-
I'm with you on this one, the canopy - among other design flaws - is one big reason I haven't picked up an X-wing yet. But all in all, I don't think it's a very good representation of the source model. I am looking forward to the Y-wing, since the last one was barely available when I got into LEGO a few years yet, and it's one of the few vehicles from the OT that I really like, but I don't have it in any form (LEGO or any other model).
-
Thanks, that's what I was afraid of...this whole Rogue Friday is a bit of a letdown in Europe... :(
-
Anyone in EU has been to a TRU personally? It's not quite clear to me if the FO general minifig applies to store purchases as well, or just online orders...

I recently started living out my suppressed LEGO-dreams, and after buying a couple of stock sets, I've decided to build a diorama around my existing Shuttle Tydirium set, so it doesn't just sit awkwardly on my display shell. This is what I came up after an evening of figuring out how to effectively use Mecabricks - and eventually losing everything after I accidentally closed the window... Obviously, the big brown space is where the shuttle goes, but I didn't have the energy to put in a good placeholder at least.. and the minifigs are also placeholders ofc. I'm still on the fence about the tree design, this is just what I came up at the moment. I'd welcome any feedback, ideas about how to best go about this, but this is my first time trying my hand at this, so please be gentle
-
Sorry, where is the official confirmation? I haven't seen it yet anywhere. Found it...
-
I don't know about the UK, but I just discovered the FO general promo in the Swiss TRU, with a purchase of 30 CHF, so it sounds about right, same in Germany with 25 EUR
-
Wow, that looks great! Good job on the splitting feature, really just a couple more trees are missing to compliment it even more, but this is truly amazing. If only official sets were so elaborate, instead of the usual basic static structure+couple of minifigs/vehicle combo...

Or you can just check on brickpicker http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=8007-1 As you can see the used prices are about the same as the original retail price. When you are looking into stuff like this, it's not worth only checking the listings, but the actual sold items. They also have a forum over there, maybe you're better off asking about it there.
