  1. At least that one had window glasses on the coach and decent train wheels Makes a very decent parts pack... @fred67 Hear, hear. Santa Fe was definitely a marketing fault. Restricting it to Shop-At-Home was as well, and more so in a time where shopping through the "Intahwebz" wasn't THE thing... I'm still hoping for a re-release, second hand prices are insane.
  2. Hey, didn't know... I do not have TV here nor do I have time to do research at the moment. Nice to hear and congratulations as well!
  3. Yeah, looks close enough to the real world with all that plants and trees. Can't imagine how to improve upon that, but I'm sure you will anyhow
  4. That can be said about lots of sets. Like those limited figures and sets for conventions or gift sets for other companies. But hey, those are no Anniversary Sets! That's what is bugging me most. 50 years of LEGO trains and what do we get? Nothing....... Makes me sad.
  5. Well, no doubt there will be the ones who try to convince you that there has indeed been an anniversary set (the "Mini Trains" set 50 Years On Track). And while that is true, access to it has been limited to LEGO employees... and some people, who have been lucky being able to buy it from employees which didn't need it and prefered the money. It would have been nice to give at a wider release instead an employee gift
  6. @danth You don't have to "buy" this, that was an official statement by TLG. Unfortunately I don't have the link to the source anymore. Even if this info is already couple of years old, I would doubt that it has lost much of it's relevance. @Aanchir Exactly. And that's why our hopes and wishes are not that relevant to LEGO as we would like them to be.
  7. Perfect! I like it. Good old classic feel with lots of visible studs Studs FTW!
  8. @MAB Don't forget these 2 things: 1) We AFOLs are a minor group and don't contribute to revenue that much. 2) LEGO Ideas caters to a specific group of LEGO fans. Results on Ideas are not representative for the entirety of LEGO buyers. To me, that "Modular" or "Creator" Castle or whatever you may name it sounds pretty nice. And I think this could work out for youngsters as well.
  9. You just made me lough!!! On topic: Day 7 without buying any LEGO. Wonder if I reach end of month before giving in...
  10. Lots of old light gray baseplates for 20 bucks. 4 straights in perfect condition, hell yeah, those alone are worth 20! + 6 curves, 3 T-pieces and 2 4-way crossings.
  11. Oh, well... I'm a bit confused now. Promobricks is talking about a BT receiver which is integrated in the battery box, while Zusammengebaut.com talks about a receiver being about the same size as the current infrared one. Hopefully we get a statement from a third party, at the moment it's a tie!
  12. Bummer... If they would have eliminated that receiver part, I'd be much happier. I suspect the battery box will be of same size as the old one? Well, then it is still a "no" to a small shunter engine.
  13. I'm looking forward to details about that Bluetooth connection. Regarding to a source, it seems that Bluetooth is built into the new battery / rechargeable boxes. So no seperate transmitter, that's a YAY already. Looks also like those new power boxes do have connectors that look like WeDo 2.0, no more PF connectors as we know them. Not sure if I like this last info bit... Hopefully LEGO releases the protocol for BT, so we can control our trains from PC / tablet / smartphone or whatever.
  14. Well, this shows how much love is given to the Train nuts ... This site definitely needs an update: https://www.lego.com/en-us/legohistory/lego-trains
  15. I have to say that the recurring remarks about the quality (or the absence there of) of the ME rails gave me headache. I am really looking forward to your solution. Even I have stocked up on 9V rails lately, wider curves and smoother turnouts are still amiss.
  16. Interesting. Bricklink only lists Green, but the one @Tribolego posted seems to be Gray?
  17. @Aanchir While that Google graph might be fully OK datawise, it is neglecting that "LEGO City" is "LEGO City" all over the world, there is no country where LEGO uses another name for this theme (at least not that I would know of). On the other hand, "LEGO Castle" is "LEGO Ritter" in German and something completely else in different languages, as well as "Train(s)" is "Zug" or "Züge". So, as language variances are not taken into account, this graph only gives us half the story. However, I also do believe that Ninjago & City are more relevant to the target audience as Castle or Train, even if you take other languages into account.
  18. Pictures from mobile phones often have their orientation wrong. There is a certain hidden property that is set while taking the photo, so your phone knows which way around to show it. But PCs and most websites do not look for this property. So: Load the picture to your PC, open it with Paint or anything like it and rotate it properly, save it then upload to bricksafe. BTW: That battery box is giving me headaches. I'm still trying to hide it properly without adding too much "thickness". I really like the solution you took, though. Thinking about implementing it, too...
  19. Very neat, small and lovely creation. Incredible what you can do with that little space!
  20. 8837 and 8855. Stocking up on older Technic stuff for now
  21. @zephyr1934 I didn't ask for new AFOL train sets... I'm pretty sure this is not the way to make money, and it seems LEGO knows as well. I don't know if I made that one clear enough, seems not: This is not about AFOL demand for new sets! 2 or 3 sets aimed at kids but supplementing trains in any way at the price range of 50 whateveryourcurrencymightbe or below is not too much to ask for. Keep them on stock for a while, not only 1 or 2 years but stick to the new train release period of 4 years (), then make 2 or 3 new ones. And kids do not care if it's an American or European loco as long as it has play value! This is doable, when they can do multiples of land-, sand- or snowspeeders and lots of other sets that don't sell well and regularly get packed to the discount area, surely it is... And through this, we get our Train supply as well. If you like the sets, buy em. If you like the sets a little but wish they'd look different, MOD em. Otherwise nothing has changed for you, MOC along and have fun. @Lego Dino 500
  22. Seems we both bought the same lot! Alas, mine was not from Ebay. And not from the US either... err.... Anyhow, that's exactly the same situation how I ended up with this set: Having bought an incredibly cheap LEGO lot, initially just because of the yellow freight train in it, realized later that it must have been the 7939 Super Pack with the Station and Taxi + 7936 + several Star Wars sets which I have sold later on (I'm not into Star Wars). And what a luck: Not a single piece was missing! In fact, I did something like that 2 more times. But never ever had that much fun or luck as with above lot. BTW: Currently not a single station available through LEGO! Even the last one is marked as "Retired".
  23. Wow. What a collection. Made me drop my jaw. Awesome presentation too, nice shelves!
  24. Hell, yes. That's the type of set I was taking about. Glad I have this one, my little one has so much fun playing with it, putting the excavator on the rails and let it be pushed by trains, haha. And it was pretty cheap. Only sold in the U.S. as a Special through LEGO stores or Toys'r'Us. And unfortunately discontinued since 2012...
