Can't tell about the Technic battery box. I do have one, somewhere in the cellar, but it's not getting used But I definitely didn't have any trouble with the Train battery box so far, wether I fed it my trusted Eneloops, Duracells or cheap Chinese built batteries I gathered from several defect remotes at work. On topic: I've been looking around the Web, but so far it seems noone disassembled the new PF 2.0 battery box or the receiver remote yet. Or has anyone better searching skills than me? I am totally interested in the innards ...

AAA size is standardized, so any AAA recharcheable should fit. I have 3 different kinds (one of it Eneloop, I guess that's what you were looking for ) and they all fit without a problem. First time I have heard about this, can you elaborate?

Unauthorized selling of instructions for MOCs
Capparezza replied to Sven J's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I am utterly distraught that it has even come so far. Why do people think that just because something is available for free on the Internet they can do with it what they want or even sell it? This is something that goes completely against the conventions I have been brought up with. Is this new generation really that far apart from common sense and decency? Or is it just that the public in general is shifting more and more to monetary beliefs instead of virtues? Even if I don't have anything up in the "Intarwebz" that someone could grab and press a Shilling out of, this leaves me very worried about the future... *shakes head* -
Just wanted to chime in and give my response to the questions: Would you like to see more contests? Yes. Even if I don't have time to join with something selfmade, it's always lot's of fun to see what others have come up with. What is your opinion of Tags (those small images on the left <---)? I know they are there and I know that some of them have a special purpose behind. However, like someone mentioned already, a list of Tags and who has been awarded this tag would be nice. Do you use, if ever, Eurobricks reference materials (ie. lists of Reviews, lists of MOCS, lists of Forums)? Yes, sometimes. Mainly Reviews and MOCs, but also LDD files shared here. I also would like to have an updated list of Academy Reviews, maybe sorted by theme and / or time frame (set release date), please Have you participated in games on Eurobricks (ie. Role-Playing, Mafia, etc.)? Nope. Not intending to, way too little time on hand to get into. Do you use/visit the Eurobricks Facebook page? Eurobricks on Flickr? etc. Until now I didn't even know that EB is on Facebook. I'm neither using Facebook nor Twitter. EB on Flickr was new also, thanks for the info! Do you post MOCs online? What hosting platform do you prefer to use? Only once. And then it was Flickr. Do you prefer broadly defined threads or multiple specialized threads? Multiple specialized threads, but also depends on the topic. I.e., a general discussion thread about Steam Train building techniques would be something I wouldn't like to see splitted up. What is the first page you visit when opening Eurobricks on your browser? The Forum Index, Train Tech subforum, General LEGO Discussions, in that order. And on the topic of EB on Youtube, Twitter, Facebook: I do use YouTube, but only for viewing videos or music clips I'm already interested in. Browsing over YouTube sometimes happens, but most of the time I click on links or search for what I need. I can't see how filling YouTube with official EB videos would help the forum. As stated, I do not use Twitter, Facebook nor any other social platform. So I couldn't care less if EB would be promoted over those. But I can see some appeal to the younger audiences in those platforms. If the postings there are short and only decorated with 1 picture maximum and a link to the corresponding EB thread, I'd guess it could work out.

I have been to the LEGO House. If your son is still into building, there is lots of opportunity there. Loads of play value and for the older ones there is the History section in the cellar. There is no registration needed, however it is not that exclusive as the Inside Tour for sure

I'm still wondering if might get tempted to buy one of the new motorized Train sets. I think I'll wait for detailed tests of the new electric parts. However, the Harry Potter one looks very promising. Price is OK, build is looking good. And there is ample room for us AFOLs to modify it. I'm not into HP stuff at all, but this might be my first set of this franchise.

@Vilhelm22 Do you have higher res pictures or where is it that you can make out something that could resemble an IR-style receiver? @LegoMonorailFan Yepp. I'm actually more interested in the electronic parts than the sets

The engine of the freight train looks good. But the waggons are so damn short! Same can be said of the passenger train, the waggons are just too short... but there's no engino to make for it in this set

Picked up a Slammer Turbo yesterday for 10 €, the "slamming mechanism" was not included. Not a lucky LEGO find so far, but ... ... the guy who bought the Slammer back in the days added a Speed Computer to it! And it's working! Cable is in good condition as well. Yay

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
Capparezza replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@scatmanjack The monorail power cable (if we speak of this one here: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=5306bc015&idColor=11#T=C&C=11) is not that uncommon, it has been used in around 22 sets. The connectors are 9V standard, which has been used back in the day for Technic, Train and other sets. Known issue is the insulation of the cables. It's getting weak and brittle and dissolves quite often on these old cables. But the connectors are very easy to pry apart and the cable can be replaced with any other 2 prong cable of the same gauge. I have done this myself on some 9V Train track connection adapters.- 578 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
Capparezza replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
@samurai-turtle Maybe this one? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3626bpb0268#T=C&C=48 -
Never seen a better use of Duplo parts when it comes to trains. Nice idea

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
Capparezza replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Well, expensive tooling is surely not the least reason why LEGO dropped the 9V system... However, I will buy bigger curves if they are done right. Still looking forward to the results. I've got plenty of time :) -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
Capparezza replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
@koalayummies Haha, hilarious! Nearly made me buy into the new line... though I'm afraid if I buy one of these bags, I might be tempted to "catch 'em all"... -
That sure are parts best suited for anything straight or rectangular. But sometimes you need it a bit "rounder" like that rigging ring at the bottom of this:

Yeah, don't even dare to think about what the realized costs for those parts for LEGO might be... One can look for cheap second hand Train sets. Uncomplete sets often go for around 60 to 65 bucks, which means you can get a lot of train base plates, train wheels and bricks for 5 to 10 bucks on top.

I guess that's the set @Johnny1360 mentioned above, 75889 Ferrari Garage: They haven't used any clips for the finish line, it is constructed with plates and hinges, have a look at the instructions here: https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/6228865.pdf

Hopefully. I'm fed up with all those "Blasters, Shooters" and the likes...

@Digger of Bricks Uh... Reminds me a lot of Mars Mission...So, we did have something like this already. Maybe time for a re-hash? Who knows.

This is awesome. Thanks a lot for your work on these wonderful scans! Dang, looking at those Service Packs and beautiful old sets makes me a bit sentimental....
-
That's looking good, even if I don't get what all the parts are for :D The idea of the changeable top is cool.

Depends on your preferences and use case. If you're happy with PF as it is now, go and get some more while it's on the market. Train motors have been unavailable through LEGO for several occasions around here, I suspect the situtation to get worse with PF 2.0 around the corner.

What a wonderful model! I'm baffled about the details
