Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
These look fantastic I wonder if the Poltergust is also compatible with Mario. And it‘s pretty weird to see them advertised with the regular box design rather than having a specialised Luigi‘s Mansion boxart It‘s connected to a new pair of pants, so there has to be a game function to it -

Picking favourites is REALLY hard, there are so many amazing ones… My top 10 include Moody, Kingsley, Myrtle, McGonagall (Moments version), Gambon!Dumbledore from CMF S1, Hagrid, Azkaban!Bellatrix, both versions of Umbridge, and the centaurs Least favourites? Can‘t say, even the „lesser“ minifigs are still better than your average minifig from other themes. Reusing faceprints (like Bruce Wayne’s for Lucius) is easily the biggest offender here, but if you ignore that, they‘re all still well-realised. -

Agreed, but her CMF faceprint more than makes up for it Too bad they didn‘t use that one instead, now that CMF prints no longer have to be exclusive to them -

Damn you!!!! Should‘ve seen that coming, with your username and all Nope, only their hinged counterparts. Not sure why they haven‘t been used in the last 20+ years… All I remember as a kid is how hard these were to pull apart, maybe that‘s what led to their demise? -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
BrickBob Studpants replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
A screenshot of what is thought to be a Smash Bros clone with WB characters has surfaced, which is why Jay speculates there could be a CMF series based on that game. Very far-fetched in my opinion. With only 12 minifigs, you could barely scratch the surface here, especially since a lot of WB characters already exist in minifig form -

Two points: When it comes to merch, commercial success is far more important than being a critical darling You can win over as many critics as you like, if the film bombs at the box office, merch sales will suffer. Vice versa? Just look at Bayformers RT scores are overrated as indicators of Oscar-worthiness. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) was nominated for Best Picture despite having a RT score of 45% -

The first trailer for Lightyear just dropped It‘s not as grounded as previously thought, but looks exciting nonetheless It‘s just weird to think that aliens exist in the Toy Story universe… then again, we‘re talking about a universe with living toys as its protagonists Looks like this may happen after all -

A set with 3 villains is a bit of a tall order though as we rarely get more than two in the same set (mooks excluded) -

…and now you‘ve been placed on a watchlist somewhere I can see the headlines already: „Real-life one-armed lunatic arrested while trying to set fire to the HQ of Danish toy manufacturer LEGO for failing to cave in to demand for minifig of fictional one-armed lunatic“ I‘m sure we‘ll get a Lizard fig at some point, but not in the context of NWH I‘m afraid. Too many villains for the rumoured amount of additional sets, if those rumours even pan out in the first place -
71033 LEGO Muppets CMF Series - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Borex's topic in LEGO Licensed
Excellent selection I have to say as someone who’s only familiar with the Muppets through two of the 90s films (Christmas Carol & Treasure Island) and of course all the references and memes on the Internet. This gives me the motivation to finally check out the 2011 and 2014 films, heard a lot of good things about them And this is a worthy replacement for Disney S3. Kermit, Winnie and Pluto were the characters I wanted to see the most in a potential third series, so thanks to this series, the Winnie Pooh Ideas set, and the 4+ Mickey line, we ended up with an even better deal than what I was hoping for -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
BrickBob Studpants replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Indeed. But in that case, they‘d probably have to go with fictional representatives, as selecting just one member of each team would be pretty hard, unless they did it randomly Selecting 12 members of the same team is definitely a lot easier -
DC Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Agreed. I‘m fine with streaming shows, but I vastly prefer films to be theatrical I doubt they gain enough new subscribers to make up for what a theatrical release would have grossed. Of course, TLG could still give it a shot, but given how hesitant they are with DC properties in general, I doubt a HBOmax-exclusive film stands much of a chance -

TLG is sponsoring the UEFA Women‘s EURO 2022 (https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-to-sponsor-uefa-womens-euro-2022/), so the third CMF series next year could be based on England‘s team This would be an excellent choice IMO, just imagine the amount of new female face prints we could get out of this -

Are they though? If it was a theatrical release, sure, but we haven‘t had a single set yet based on a streaming-exclusive movie (And no, Trolls World Tour doesn‘t count) -

Agree wholeheartedly Hybrids usually work, especially when the head is moulded (see e.g. this year's Basilisk). That's where the entirely brick-built creatures fall apart for me; the facial details. Prints or stickers are usually just not good enough to capture them Just look at the face of the 2013 Rancor, there's no way a print or a sticker can compete with actual moulded details like that Sure, the new one could theoretically also fall in that hybrid category, but why create a pointless mould like that when the old one must still be lying around somewhere in a drawer, collecting dust, waiting to be resurrected -

Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Good point, the licensers generally have veto powers I just find it weird that we don't have any rumours yet, since I would expect WB to inform their partners early enough of a change of schedule so they may adjust theirs. They must've known about it long before the public did Plus, releasing tie-in product months after the film's debut can't be good for sales, unless you're Funko who seem to be able to conjure up new product out of thin air (just look how quickly they put out Pop! figures for Squid Game, those surely weren't planned beforehand ) -
Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
The consensus is that there likely won't be any SoD sets next year, right? On the one hand, the recent release date change certainly doesn't inspire confidence, and neither do the alleged lacklustre sales of the two sets in 2018, but on the other hand, would they really skip tie-in products for an upcoming theatrical release they still have the license for? I can't think of a single sequel they ignored like that (for TMNT2 and Spider-Man 3 they simply didn't have the license anymore) Releasing sets at least 2 months after the film came out would be just as out of the ordinary, but at least they'd have a good excuse in that case. I'm not losing sleep over this, but it'd still be nice to have at least one set based on the film, mainly for minifigs of Youngledore and Grikkelsen -

Not gonna happen, they're colour-locked for durability reasons, as the specific colours for the ball-joint and receiver parts they chose are the least likely to break. Can you even imagine the carnage if they released reddish brown ball joints? If that's the case, it's going to look even more like a Mecha-Rancor Fair enough They might surprise us, but after the last few brick-built creatures, I'm not holding my breath for anything spectacular here. It's just a side build in a $100 set after all. I'd argue the best brick-built creatures are the ones that are the main focus of the set (Shelob or the Great Protector, to name two of my favourites), compared to the ones that serve as side builds -

The 2013 one does have studs on its back, so a saddle or similar add-ons can‘t be the issue. Most likely it‘s just a cost-saving measure because the 2013 version must‘ve been pretty expensive to produce That could only be the case if A) there are no ball joints and its limbs are instead attached with pins, or B) it‘s colour scheme is (dark) grey -

I don’t disagree with that sentiment in general - LEGO is a construction toy after all - but creatures are the one exception for me. And minifigs too, of course -

The creature-based microfighters look cute and are instantly recognisable as you say, but to me, they’d never work as the ‘real deal’. If small animals are moulded, large ones should be too, just for the sake of consistency Moreover, brick-built creatures look too robotic to me, which isn’t helped by the mini ball-joint parts that always stick out like a sore thumb. Sadly, they are colour-locked, so that’s not going to change
