Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
While the DoD sets still have no release date attached, I think they‘re rumoured to hit shelves in June, in which case we do have 2HY sets While most licensed themes don’t seem to outlive the immediate aftermath of a movie’s release anymore (unless they’re evergreen of course), I hope Indy gets treated a bit better. The last non-evergreen theme to continue at least a year after the respective movie’s release was probably Cars 2. -

I‘m hoping for as few What if…? minifigs as possible, but I‘m bracing for them taking up around half the slots again. Sure, the second season might get delayed significantly, but LEGO set production just isn’t flexible enough to account for that, not even for „just“ a CMF series Designing new parts and creating the moulds for them takes a long time I imagine, and each CMF series introduces multiple of them. I also feel they wouldn‘t skip the opportunity to have variants of classic characters in the roster, like Spidey or Zombie Cap in S1. Maybe Iron Man and Thor variants this time? -

If Voldemort wasn't bald, they could easily do that. I just think having this as his only facial expression in the set would be pretty weird. Unless they include two heads of course -

It‘s kind of the opposite problem here Including a desirable character because it makes sense is FAR less likely to happen than including a repeat character that equally makes sense. Costs overtrump logic The DH Hermione and Neville minifigs already exist, so throwing them in here is super easy, barely an inconvenience Not that I want them to do that, but they probably won‘t be able to resist -

Exactly! I‘d rather they give Bellatrix a new skirt print instead That would work very well, considering this particular print was mostly likely based on his meme-y facial expression from DH in the first place. At least I don‘t remember him having a shit-eating grin like that in GoF -

You‘re right, they can’t really get around those 5, unless there‘s another set based on the BoH coming in the summer. While I like your idea, 4-5 additional minifigs sounds way too generous for a $85 set 2-3 seems more realistic to me. Probably a bad guy (Dementor, Death Eater, or Bellatrix), a student (Seamus, Luna) and an OotP member (Molly, Lupin, or Kingsley) -

2 One is a Flash set, the other still unknown. Has to be a DC set too, wouldn‘t make a lick of sense otherwise -

So you could either display them next to one another or on top of each other? That‘d be excellent However, that wouldn‘t work with baseplates, making it incompatible with DA. Doesn‘t bother me personally, but some people wouldn‘t appreciate it -

That‘d be the best-case scenario in my eyes. I think people are expecting a repeat of 2011, where everyone was anticipating a stand-alone set based on the preliminary name („Battle for Hogwarts“ instead of Battle of Hogwarts), only for it be renamed to „Hogwarts“ and featuring random stuff like the Mirror of Erised and a divination classroom, and best of all, Harry in school uniform If it weren‘t for the exploding bridge, Lucius, Neville, and Lupin, it might as well have been a generic Hogwarts expansion. That also reminds me again how much better this iteration has been handled than the 2010-11 run. Harry still looking the exact same in the DH sets was just terrible I do have fond memories of these sets, but they cannot compete with what‘s getting released nowadays -

LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Funny how the same D2C set ideas keep popping up every year A Jedi Temple is not gonna happen anytime, folks. Massive buildings are not exactly what most people are looking for in a SW set. Also, they’re not going to include 20 Jedi in a single set. And the Petranaki arena would work better as a regular set with only part of the facade, since most of the battleground where the action takes place is just empty space, minus the pillars. Unless you want it to be microscale à la Colosseum -

Nah. While visual effects, music, and immersion can be applied to the stage as well, they are clearly not on the same level as on the big screen. Also, the whole is often more than the sum of its parts We’re drifting more and more into off-topic territory Save us, DC set list!! …oh, right. -

True! Actually, now that I think about it, that scene could totally work as its own set with Mrs Weasley, Flitwick, and Slughorn as additional minifigs. They could even name it ‘Piertotum Locomotor’! Wouldn’t be the first time a set is named after a spell -

The Piertotum Locomotor scene is among my faves in the entire franchise The statues coming to life always reminded me of the climax of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, one of my favourite films as a kid. The preparation scenes before the battle are amazing in general, all the interactions and character moments plus the visual of the shield getting hammered down on in the background. While a lot of that cannot be translated into a set, McGonagall and a couple of knight minifigs would be enough to scratch that particular itch for me -

Sure, but sets are almost never to scale with each other. Just look at the tiny Milano they released in 2017! I think they can easily do a decent version of the Bowie for $100. It’s obviously (k)nowhere near the scale it would ideally be, but if you look at it as a stand-alone set, I’m certain it’ll work well -

The Carrow twins don’t appear during the battle though, those doofuses are defeated beforehand Scabior would be neat, but he dies pretty early on and would be better placed in a DH1 set, me thinks. The rest sound good I’d replace the Carrows with random Death Eaters and Scabior with Narcissa. Speaking of Death Eaters: would you prefer unmasked ones akin to the movie or masked ones? You probably all know my answer by now The masked ones look way more menacing and most Death Eaters are just random normal-looking people anyway. I was pretty disappointed when they dropped the masks after the Battle of the seven Potters in the movies. I do get the reason behind that creative choice; they literally dropped the mask after taking over the ministry, making the disguise no longer necessary. Makes perfect sense in the story, but I still prefer the other look It’d be like Stormtroopers suddenly going helmetless, it removes the intimidation factor somewhat -

I only said that a lot of people enjoy cinema the most out of all mediums because it combines all of those elements, not that any of those are required for enjoyment -

Or maybe, just MAYBE, people have legit reasons to think cinema is superior to other forms of media other than “conditioning”, which honestly sounds pretty condescending Music, atmosphere, performances, editing, visual effects, sound design, costumes, props, immersion. Other mediums have some of these, but cinema is the only one to combine them all -

What was your point then? You said that there would be mostly comic-inspired sets now had the MCU not taken off. Not sure what I missed there Yeah, the comic book industry as a whole, not necessarily Marvel or DC. Manga are outselling them left and right -

Exactly, which is why I’d like the set to feature two vaults, so the third can be released as the GWP -

For that price, it‘d better include it Imagine buying a $400 DA plus a $430 expansion, and then you‘d still have to fork out $50-70 for a dragon to complete the whole thing Released in 2026, of course. Hopefully, the set will include the following elements: Interior of the bank with some desks At least 4-5 goblins (including Griphook and BBQgrod) Two vaults out of the three prominent ones (Lestrange, Potter, the one with the Philosopher‘s Stone). One of them’s gonna be a GWP anyway A more accurate Philosopher‘s Stone (trans-red gold nugget piece please ) Dragomir Despard & Hermiotrix The Ukrainian Ironbelly Thief’s Downfall play feature (sounds like it may be included already!) 2-3 guards Lots of gold, GOLD!! -
