You're my boy, Blu! Everything you make looks good, and this is no exception. I think that your tower is simple yet elegant, with very clean lines and a classic shape. The window is the highlight for me, though I think I would prefer to see a color other than dark red there, since it is so strongly present in the tree right beside it. The dark red tree, too, seems a bit flat on the top and could probably use a few more leaves. But it is still excellently composed and put together, and a lovely build.

Very nicely done, SK! Your rockwork is excellent, and the landscape does not disappoint, either. The dragon is surprisingly poseable, and I enjoy all of its articulation. My main complaint with the dragon is that there is not much color unification; by that I mean that it looks camouflaged, with a bit of dark green here, some reddish brown there, and dark brown over there, rather than green with a brown underside, or something like that. It makes it hard to see where one part begins and another ends, and is a nightmare to look at amongst the greens and browns of your landscape because it blends in so well. It is a very well done brick-built dragon, particularly on this scale, but I would prefer more organization with the colors. However, it is still a great build and a delight to behold. Good work!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Henjin_Quilones replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I have updated the map of Avalonia again, so hopefully it will help new members with their land claims to avoid confusion. A few claims could not be added, such as @Columbus019, since his own map indicates that his territory borders Mitgardia, but there is no such territory open on the guild map, and @Brandon Stark has his island but not his mainland claim, since another builder is already there. Other than that, it should be complete. If I missed anything, please do not hesitate to let me know. -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Henjin_Quilones replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Here's the most current map, from mid-July, though I think there are several territories missing from it that have been posted since then. I am pretty sure that @en_zoo's territory, at least, has not been added, and probably a few more (I got busy and stopped my updating a while back; one of these days I'll get back to it again, hopefully). The small peninsula you wanted is called Farrveil, and is claimed already. -
Very nice, Legofin! The Tauntaun, er, snow horse, is an appropriately Mitgardian beast, to be sure. The sledge is again impressive (you seem to have a knack for those things) though I do wonder how it travels across the rocky soil without getting all scraped up. The runners, with the SNOTed half-arches, are my favorite part. The snow on your small leafy tree is equally impressive. Snow compresses and becomes very solid, like a glacier, as long as the weather remains cold enough, so all that would be needed would be some boards here and there to make sure that it does not fall over on the top, where the snow is softer.

Very nice, LJ! The color scheme, arches, and mosaics make this a very elvish-feeling build. The round roof and the horn pieces complete the feeling, as well as the simple-yet-lovely details of the the targets and lamps. I have little else to say that others have not, but I just want you to know that I appreciate your contribution to Avalonian Elven culture. Well done!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Henjin_Quilones replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
First off, Grover, welcome to the Guilds, and particularly to Avalonia. I might be of some assistance getting you off the ground here at the start. 1. Yes, you need to create a sigfig and name, and usually some sort of backstory, too. How detailed or simple that is depends on your preference. Posting the picture of your sigfig here on this board gets you officially added to the roster. 2. You have the option of claiming some sort of land that is not already claimed. There is no requirement that you do so, however. You can claim it now, wait a little bit, or choose to claim nothing. And there are castles and forests and magic everywhere, so build all the magical-island castles you want... 3. Just start building. There are not (yet) any current challenges going, so you can build anything you want anywhere you want to build it (assuming it fits GoH). Freebuilds are any build not within a challenge, and if you have the time and desire you could build twenty a week. Or once a year. Whatever fits you. Book II is coming to a close, but not until probably May of 2017, so you have plenty of time to start building now. The Nocturnus Civil War will be the final chapter of Book II, and it has just started to be introduced, with the challenges still not revealed. I would not worry too much about points, either; just build what you want to build. I hope that helps! Ask any questions you might have here, and someone will answer for you! Again, welcome to Avalonia. -
I am glad you included the fence, as it creates more visual interest in the build. The snow looks nice, like wind-sculpted drifts, and the irregular base accents it well. Photography still needs improvement, however, as the blurriness does detract significantly from the quality of the presentation. Better than before, certainly, but not quite there yet.

Very nice! I almost expect a Tyrannosaurus Rex to be kept behind that wall. Great details!

Looking good! Nice job on that railing, especially. -
Very nice turtlegun! The use of the stair pieces is clever, and I particularly enjoy the arches' undersides adding interesting texture to the wall. Well done!

I love the way you do trees, Blufiji! Your swamp scenes are my favorite. On this one, though, I am not sure of the vines on the surface, as it creates a strange sort of pattern that does not look altogether organic, and, as I said on your last build, I am still not sold on the bright green of those leaves. It does not tie in well with the dark green, lime green, or the olive green. The color-scheme of the first build, however, is top-notch. I was a bit unsure of the plain reddish-brown of the under-construction siege weapon at first, but as I looked more it looked better and better. Great job with the irregular base and the figure posing. Keep posting these things!

Wow, you are right! Very clever, indeed!

This looks excellent, Gunman! Ordinarily I dislike so many different textures in a wall, but on yours it works very well; this is probably due to there being a large section of wall and the complete absence of non-textured bricks, as well as the nice contrast it provides with the large smooth grey pieces on the front towers. I love the way the top section over the gate is inverted (studs down) and the look that allows. It being Mitgardia, ships on top of walls does not strike me as being especially odd (perhaps they were captured in a battle and are a trophy of sorts) but I will agree with Kai and Garm that there should be some sort of finishing on the tops (bottoms?) to hide the hollow cavity. Another area for improvement is tiling the interior floors to hide the studs, as well as adding some more interior detailing. The studs work fine as dirt/grass, but the wood floors would look better smooth. It does not look bad now, but it would look better with them tiled. Those are minor nitpicks, however, in what is a fantastic build. I still cannot get over how much I enjoy the contrast of textures and arrangement of the parts on the front. The base ties it all together splendidly, presenting a great build. Well done! By the way, what piece did you use for the arrow slits in the textured part of the wall? I do not recognize the shape of the hole from anything I have...

The boat is fun and cleverly put together, Blufiji! However, the swamp is my favorite part, since you are a swamp landscape master; the mangrove tree is the best, and the dark green color fits it extraordinarily well. I'm not sure I like the bright green of the plants, however, as it is a bit jarring next to the dark green and olive green. It still looks good, though. Well done!

Nocturnus Minichallenge III: Pie Contest!

Or the pies ate the judges... -
Nice vignette! Even on a small scale you do impressive work. The rocks with that moss green look great, and the small tree (in my favorite tree color, purple) is spreading and drooping, like a small tree ought to. I would say that the path could use some more detailing, but I think that would actually make the scene too busy since the rocks have so much detail themselves. So... good work!

AoM: Guardsmen Keep (Phase III)
Henjin_Quilones replied to Legofin2012's topic in Guilds of Historica
This looks great, Legofin (aside from the photography, of course)! I am glad you have a working drawbridge included, as that is a great detail and enhances the playability significantly. You are always good at the rocks, too, and the architecture is wonderfully Mitgardian. Your snow looks great, though I think that it should be concentrated on the bottom of the roof rather than the top; melting snow slides down a roof and gathers at the edge before falling over the edge, in my observations from living in snowy climates. Keep up the good work! -
Glad to see you increasing the scale a bit! This has many great details, Vlad, especially the swamp. I love using lime green for water, myself. I think the primary area for improvement is the colossal black wall, as it is just too much unrelieved black for my liking. More texturing, or something, would have helped, or else slightly better lighting on it. As it is, it is a big, black monolith where is hard to see what exactly it is doing. Black is hard to photograph, I've been told. But I hope you continue your story, as I am curious to see where it all goes!

Looks great, Titus! I love the way you have integrated your build into the rest of the layout, keeping many stylistic aspects intact (such as the pier and walkways). You have managed to blend Avalonian and Mitgardian features well. My primary bit of criticism is that the roofs are a bit too studdy for my liking; using more tiles there would have improved the look in my opinion. I would also avoid using the light bley grill bricks for stonework, especially in confluence with the 1x2 log brick and 1x2 masonry brick, as well as SNOT tiles, since there are just too many textures going on in one wall. The build as a whole looks great, though, and I think it is very fitting sendoff to Thorshaven!

So many great details, LJ! This is one of the best builds I have seen out of Kaliphlin in some time (Blufiji's Qar Riwa being excepted, of course). Just wow! My favorite aspect of the whole thing is most evident in your overhead shot, where one can see the many different angles that you have used to connect everything together. No simple 90 degree connections here! The spinner-base bridge is a highlight, as well, since the simple detail of that part adds so much wonderful complexity. Mosaics, interiors, minarets, islands, bridges; this build has it all. My one complaint is that your domes are too angular, but that is difficult to remedy, since SW planet halves only come in one size, and do not come in quarters. But extraordinarily well done!

Nice build, SK! Good to see you building in Avalonia, where things are green, rather than the frosty tundra of the north. I enjoy the green building and the upper story of the mill, but the near-even distribution of light and dark grey, especially all roughly 2x2 brick size, seems less than ideal to my eye. I think picking one grey to be dominant and then using the other as an accent would look better, or an even distribution with smaller chunks. The other area that seems to be improvable is the water; I know it is the style you picked, but the surface of the water is so rough when a smooth surface would have complemented the tranquil pastoral scene better (except around the waterfalls, of course). That being said, I think the composition and arrangement are superb, and the variation of trees is lovely. In fact, I was looking at your trees thinking of how to copy them somewhat (I love trees, but do not have enough leaves for the size of tree that I want, but yours are smaller and still look nice).

Thanks! I'll do my best, when I can. The number was the main part of the build, but the rest just kind of grew up around it. I'm relatively pleased by it. Those flower tiles are pretty neat, I agree. Thanks! Glad you like it!
