This is awesome. Your texturing makes it look literally aeons old. So inventive and atmospheric - you can almost smell the stale air and hear the noise of the stone lid sliding off from its base and shatter on the ground. Excellent work.

Need suggestions for a set to build a pub/inn
Littleworlds replied to hagridshut's topic in LEGO Town
One thing about the detective's office just came into my mind. It is at the same time a really nice pub and at a pretty insufficient one It is basically just a pool hall. It looks good though and is lovely themed etc. But there is no counter, no barstools or anything like that. Just a trophy shelf, a rack with cues and a table where the patrons can rest their drinks on. Don't ask me where they got them from though, there isn't even a bartender around. To make it actually work as intended I had to expand it quite significantly. So... don't feel too bad not getting that set! -
This looks excellent! You captured the typical look of its time perfectly. From the colour palette, to the shapes and ornamentation. Very well done. Also superb use of the interior space. There is nothing wasted and at the same time, the room is there where its needed.

Well done exterior. It feels appropriately rough and chilling. For the interior: impressive how you were able to use such little space and make an excellent, very atmospheric scene out of it that goes along well with the story. Lighting is also good (which is often not easy in confined spaces!) and characters all look unique and have their own personality. All in all: excellently done!

Looks good! I like how you break up the right-angles that Lego by its nature wants to form and create something wild, organic and deliberately dirty. Very well build. An excellent combination for shapes and colours. I would maybe give the vines on the roof a second colour (brown or tan), but apart from that, there is nothing for me to complain about. It looks lived-in, atmospheric and has a lot of character.

Hello Brann. I'm very sorry to hear your collection vanished. A lot of Lego fans spent a significant amount of time, money and dedication on their collection and I think its fair to say that everyone who reads this feels with you. Personally I would go for a mixed approach. For specialized parts (shields, weapons and armour, for example and properly themed minfigs) I would look at bricklink, for more common ones, definitely keeping my eyes out of bulk Lego. There is still the option to sell on the ones you don't need and to minimize the financial impact that way. And maybe you are lucky and you get your hands on a castle-themed bulk... who knows. From the newer ones, the harry potter sets are definitely worth a look. Sets like The Great Hall offer a nice solid build, that doesn't really needs to be modified to fit into the castle-theme, and also have a decent value for the money. Good luck on restoring your collection!

Beautiful shaping and sculpting. The patch of land it sits on looks absolutely stunning. I love the round. organic shape of it and the craggy edges and vegetation. Very appropriate. The house itself is just sheer beauty in weirdness and decay. Very nicely done walls and rotten wooden framework. And the roof - great choice of colours. They give it that Tim-Burton-look, that works so great with the theme. Great job!

This looks very good. I like the engines a lot. They got a nice angle and excellent shaping. Its also nice to get some close-ups. There are so many details that otherwise would have got missed. Excellent build.

Looks really exciting! I love the aggressive shaping at the front and rear. It really smells like speed and danger. Excellent work! -
I was able recently to pick up a number of sets from the recent couple of films and the new series despite having only watched The Last Jedi. To me it doesn't really matter where a set is from, as long it excites me in one way or another and comes at a decent price I like doing my own worldbuilding and sets like the Black Ace TIE Interceptor are already so very inviting for that, regardless of what canon says about them: A hotrodded TIE fighter with a pilot that has a skull painted on his helmet - what a great idea! Or the two sets of pretorian guards I got, which will do great as a mysterious order of red knights in my medieval-fantasy-world. Other things, like some random battle packs are always good to bolster numbers and create atmosphere.

Hello Willie! Welcome to Eurobricks! Your characters look fantastic

Very neat. It has this sobering look of a courthouse, with some really tasteful facade-work. I'm not sure about using the chain as scales though. Maybe you can work out a way to use handcuffs instead. They should give the right look and provide a better connection to the statue - and even fit to the theme

This looks very good indeed. The walls have a nice oriental feel to them and the decor works really well too. With its colours and bit and pieces everywhere, It reminds me a lot of how people imagine Leonardo's Workshop.

Looks wicked! Certainly not somebody to get into an argument about commercial fishing!

I was thinking about the detectives office as well, but that is way over the $50 budget. The corner deli looks like a good plan. Maybe two of those combined. -
It looks so cute and cheeky! Great shaping and excellent choice of colours. Very vibrant!

Welcome to Eurobricks, DylANK! City will probably always be my core-lego interest too. I'm sure there is a lot for you to discover here. What about modulars (like the downtown diner)? They do quite well amongst train and city as well.

Oh, I see! Yes, I try to avoid getting too many specific parts for my projects as well. Mostly standard pieces and bricks and challenge myself a bit with finding building solutions. I meant this set here. It comes with a lot of these windows and is really a charming building. Even for a non-Harry-Potter-fan like myself.
-
Yes, I see. The original is indeed quite tall. About the slopes: You could try 2-high slopes instead, which would require bricklink or so to get them, or maybe make the railing on the upper deck lower, like it was on the Black Seas Barracuda. Compromises, compromises - but this way of puzzle to get the look right is also part of the fun with Lego, isnt it? Oh, i just remembered, you try the rectangular 2-high windows from the Hogwarts great hall. They should not be too expensive to get.

I think this is a very sensible approach. Life is never always funny or always gruesome, so contrasting these extremes doesn't only makes a more believable world, but also makes each of these sides more impactful. The mix is what makes things interesting really.
-
Nice and nimble looking. It definitely has character - and a good one! I would make the cabin one brick lower though. It is quite tall compared to the deck and makes the ship a bit unbalanced.
-
A fun idea, excellently build. the barding works indeed really well and makes sense as a layer of protection for her.
-
Excellent how you play with shapes, colours, different materials and lighting. Looks really cool!

I find the sails maybe a bit small but still looking fine. Its really beautiful now fully rigged and under sails.
