General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Captain Fortune replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
When the new movie is supposed to be in theaters? -
As always, excellent review. I've got this set and I like it very much. Once you complete it with other sets like Soldier's Arsenal or the Cannon Battle, you've got a very cool Imperial stronghold.

Whats the deal with the 2015 pirates line?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in LEGO Pirates
Mither Phes has explained the Business Plan several times. However, this matter is difficult to understand. As you said, the sets seemed to sell well. Here in Barcelona, in summer it was difficult to find Pirates sets. Then, I travelled to London in august, hoping that I would find plenty of sets there. On the contrary, I found the same thing: vey few sets. I even had a look in Harrod's: no Pirates at all. It seems that this 2015 wave was like a "flash mob": They launch the sets, they are sold, and it' over. -
[Investigation] Who is the Captain Ironhook?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Man, this is more than helpful, this is AMAZING! Thank you so much! :cry_happy: :cry_happy: It's funny because some things are similar to what I imagined when I was a child. To me, Roger was never a bad man. He was tough as you said, but a relatively noble man. Regarding to what you said about Brickipedia... I think that you definetely should! You can be the author of the Bible of Classic Pirates! You made an amazing job with your list of named pirates, like TalonCard also did. Classic Pirates is also contributing to this, but I think that all this information should be explained and organized somewhere. Of course it is only a general suggestion, but there is a lot of very interesting stories that could be easily lost, and that would be a real shame. -
[Investigation] Who is the Captain Ironhook?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Wowowowowwww stop man, stop! That's too much for me hahaha! Official dramas of Lego Pirates! Holly s**t, lucky germans! Fascinating!!! Well, it seems that I missed lots of information in my life haha! Can I ask you some questions? - How would yo describe Captain Roger, based on those stories? Is he cool and not a nasty guy, like you described on your list of named pirates? - What is the relationship between de Islanders and the soldiers? In the 1995 catalog we see a combined attack from the Imperial Guards and the Islanders against the Pirates in the Skull Island so, are they friends? - What is the relationship between the Islanders and Roger, and Ironhook? - What about Kahuka? Do they say something in the drama, about his son and the islander girl, who is supposed to be his daughter? - Some interesting information about the Governor of the Imperial Guards? Is he a fair man? And the soldiers, are they good or bad? Thank you so much for your info! -
Who is this man? When is was a child I always considered it the second in command after Captain Redbeard. The reason is that in spanish catalogs he was never named nor given the condition of "captain". It seems I was wrong, because I found a little of information about him: "The Renegade Runner is crewed by Captain Ironhook's band of renegade pirates, a splinter faction Captain Ironhook absconded with the vessel and its crew after failing to overthrow his brother Captain Red Beard in a coup d'etat." http://brickset.com/sets/list-4120 The brother of the Captain Redbeard? Hahaha that would have been a BANG! if I knew this in my childhood. It seems reasonable, given their similar appearance. The Brickipedia also suggests that he could be a renegade, but says nothing about the family links with RedBeard. Anyway, the word Renegade is interesting: it seems that the name of that little ship -The Renegade Runner- was given for that reason. Again, in spanish that ship was called "Estrella del Mar" -Sea Star-. "Captain Ironhook is the second main Pirates captain in theLEGO Pirates theme. His red, black, and white clothes are more ripped up then the other two, and not as neat. He and his pirates were the first to encounter the Islanders. He can also represent pirate renegades faction." http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Captain_Ironhook So, here are my questions: What intentions do you think Lego had with this fella? Are Redbeard and Ironhook enemies? I don't think so, since we've never seen any confrontation between them... Who are the members of his crew? Are they distinguishable? Any more ideas or information about the matter?

Video Review - 6286 - Skull's Eye Schooner
Captain Fortune replied to Lorentzen's topic in LEGO Pirates
The respect and love that you show in the video to this awesome set is a good reason to give you my congratulations. Long Life to SES! -
Ok, but this is nothing but your opinion. Is there any official document from Lego (I mean catalogs, boxes, etc.) speaking about such civil war? No, so please don't mix your opinions with the FACTS. This theory seems even absurder when you realize that DG and BK have diffent commanders (Majisto and that "Black Monarch"), and absolutely different lookings, structures, etc. They have nothing to do one with the other.
-
I see, but it's still illogical to consider them a single faction. Why "dragon knights/dragon masters"? Why not "dwarfs/falcons"? Tha'ts absurd, even more when Masters and Blacks were enemies in 1993-1994.
-
Where are the Black Knights? Am I wrong or did you mix them with the Dragon Masters?

Share Improvements on Original Sets to 'Complete' Them

I like it a lot! I don't have the ship at the moment -i'm not home now-. How did you attach the boat on the mast, is there some part to do it? -
Pictorial Review - 6289/6290 Red Beard Runner
Captain Fortune replied to Bricverson's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks for your story! In fact, my first ship was the Armada Flagship, early in 1997. Then, it came the RBR. After it, the SES and the IFS. And finally, de Caribbean Clipper. Just the opposite chronological order! And I'm speaking about the late 90s, without internet! -
Pictorial Review - 6289/6290 Red Beard Runner
Captain Fortune replied to Bricverson's topic in LEGO Pirates
My favorite ship has always been the 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner. I finally found it in may 1998. But first, my parents bought me the Red Beard Runner in Christmas 1997, when I was 9. And now, while writing, I have it here at my side, in a perfect condition. When I saw it in the 1996 catalog for the first time, I remember that I felt very disappointed. I didn't like it at all. Smaller and simpler than its predecessor, it looked destroyed and wrecked. However, once I get used to the ship, I started to like it. When I had it at home, the more I played with it, the more I liked it. And now, I love it. It was a very original ship, it broke the molds. That's why I felt surprised and disappointed. It looks weird compared to the more classic BSB and SES. But now I think that we should celebrate this originality, I'd go as far as to say that it's the most original ship Lego Pirates ever made. We all now its flaws, and I now them, believe me. But the final design looks really powerful. And man, these sails are f****n' cool. The white parts of the forecastle and the poop deck (with that skull in the back) are really beatiful. And I like the new flags. We have only three cannons, but we have space for 4 cannons in each side, that's a lot. And there are nice minifigs; and the string, very useful. My conclusion is that RBR is a very special ship that needs time to de accepted and get used to it. Once you do it, you love it! -
I think this set is absolutely awesome. Castle has always been my second favourite theme. And I must say that this set is the most natural and purest evolution of the old castles from 1985-95. I love everything in it: structure, color scheme, minifigs, etc. I think that you guys are very lucky having this set in 2010.

You will have to.

Nexo Knights 2016
Captain Fortune replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
First of all, I can understand that Lego is a company. I can understand that Castle/Knights needs to renew its products. And I also understand that kids will like this theme. That is obvious. My surprise comes when I see this forum and this thread full of people that can't wait for these Nexo Knights. Classic Castle fans, where are you? Do you REALLY like this... thing? That's been enough for today. I think I'm going back to Classic Pirates forums! -
Well, I think that the explanation would be the same that Aanchir gave above: But many critics of this year's Pirates range make a good point that it is, in many respects, "just the basics". The same thing was observed of the 2013 LEGO Castle range, and to be honest I think it is almost inevitable with any LEGO series that gets just a single wave every few years. The 90s, especially the late 90s, were generally not the best time when it came to the quality of LEGO set designs. I'll readily admit that even as somebody whose childhood was during that period. As much as I love many of the sets back then, their complexity and general building value pales in comparison to many of today's sets! But with that said, the 90s were a great time for the variety of sets. Again, I think that might have been partly out of desperation, since the LEGO Group's sales had already started declining by that point. But another factor was having new sets one year after the other. Because of this, and because back then sets tended to stay in stock longer instead of just retiring after a year and a half, each year's sets had to go out of their way to stand out from those of the previous year, meaning much more variety from year to year. I mentioned in my last post my nostalgia for 6262 King Kahuka's Throne. It and some of the other sets of that era are etched firmly in my memory, in part because my brother and I dressed as an Imperial Guard and King Kahuka, respectively, for Halloween 1994! But slightly niche subthemes like Islanders and Imperial Armada which expanded the world of LEGO Pirates beyond generic imperial forts and pirate ships don't have an opportunity to come about unless those basic elements of the theme are already established.

I know that this thread is not actual at all but... fellows, these sets are really awesome. I'm your neighbour from the Pirates forums, but I also like Lego Wild West and I didn't know nothing about the existence of this custom sets. So, if some of you were ignorants like me, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
-
Again, awesome explanation. By the way, I'm an other fan -and owner- of the Islanders sets. I only would add that the 2009 wave was nearly excellent. The more I think about it, the more I see it. We have ALL we need: Big bases for both sides, battle packs, impulse sets, and two ships. And one of them, the IFG, is the most complete ship that we ever seen in Lego. To be honest, giving the circumstances we could'nt ask for more.
-
Very good intervention. As a kid, I suffered all the inconveniences you spoke about. However, we must say that not all the solutions come from Lego, but from the technological advances in general. So I wouldn't say that there has never been a better time, that is clearly an exaggeration to me. Anyway I agree. We are having very solid waves since 2009 wich are very respectful with the original idea of classic Pirates. In other words, I would kill for having something like this when I was 10 years old and Pirates disappeared! Thank you. It's funny how I could never understand the reasons when I was a kid. You don't consider Lego as a company with its economic factors when you're 10. I started to read the book yesterday.
-
Very, very interesting. Thank you for this! By the way, can I ask you a question? You seem very informed... I remember that january 1998, where I was a child, I watched the new catalog and didn't see anything about Pirates. I was VERY disappointed, and I could'nt believe how that was possible. Now it's funny to remember those old times hahaha, but I was really pissed off. Which were the reasons lead the Lego Group to remove the Pirates Theme? Thank you very much for your time!
