I agree with the review. I specially dislike these repeated pirates (they have only changed the face). Why do they repeat a minifig? Really absurd and very poor. They also changed de face of the captain (it s***s) and two minifigs are not armed. Definetely, I think that is the worse pirates set i've ever seen.

REVIEW: 1747 Pirates Treasure Surprise
Captain Fortune replied to Lord Of Pies's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well, I have this set and I know it. And honestly, I must disagree with the review. You should keep in mind that we are talking about an impulse set. And what is it? It's like a teaser or a trailer for the movies, or the introduction of a book. The impulse sets appear before the whole wave. As I said before, they are like an "introduction". You cannot compare this kind of set with a normal set. That is unfair. 21 pieces, and you complain. Well, what did you expect? -
Only one word: WOW. Pucela, imagino que eres español: La única pena en este MOC son las figuras del bando español, que evidentemente no coinciden en uniformidad con su aspecto histórico. Pero vaya, en todo caso, espectacular.

Good review. Totally agree. The set is good, but not excellent. This classical sets touch my heart, but I try to be objective ( ) and it has some mistakes. The worst, the lack of floors: absurd.

As always when talking about POTC, my opinion is not very positive. I voted below average. The set's got interesting accessories: the map, the torch, the globe... But in my opinion, a Captain's Cabin could be more complete. A lost oportunity.

Carribean Clipper vs the Imperial Flagship
Captain Fortune replied to Scouty's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've got and I love both of them, but there is an evidence we can't ignore: the design of the "Sea Lion" (Imperial Flagship) is much better than the Caribbean Clipper. This mast without sails makes no sense at all, the ship is too broad (it should be longer), the single and central "steps" to get up to the mast (sorry I don't know how to say it in english) is not realistic, because it should be on the two sides of the mast, etc. On the other hand, the design of the Sea Lion is excellent: realistic, fast, slender and powerful. Despite of that, the Caribbean has some advantages: More space, better minifigs (I don't like that sailor of the Sea Lion, he should have been a soldier) the cabin (the IF has no cabin, what a shame!), and a little hold. Nevertheless, in conclusion I vote for the Imperial Flagship. -
Man, I love this set. And I thank all Gods on Earth for having it lol. My parents bought it for me when I was only 5, I remember it perfectly.

Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
Absolutely agree. You've explained the marketing reasons, you hit the nail on the head. In addition, there is another reason: The 2009 wave of Pirates appeared in the 20th anniversary (1989-2009). It is a tribute to the old Classic Pirates, we all know that; and I think that is also a tribute to the old fans, the kids from the 90's. And I think that Roger/BrickBeard is part of this tribute. Lego wanted us to recognize the Pirate Captain of our childhood. Otherwise, Lego could have changed totally this minifig. -
Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
You're right, we haven't seen an official Lego document that express Roger and Brickbeard are the same person, but we haven't seen an official document that express the contrary. In this case, we only have an option: believe it or not. And what do makes me believe that they are the same person? Well, you just said it: they've got absolutely the same traits and characteristics. We can consider Brickbeard some kind of "tribute" to Roger. The "charisma" of this minifig seems irreplaceable, so Lego tried to renew it, including his name. Your reason is that they have different names. That's true, and I respect that you consider them different persons. But I think that when Lego changed the name, they meant something like "Guys, we changed the name but come on, you know who's this Captain. And he's back.". -
Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
My vote is for the Captain Roger, but I think that we all know that Roger and BrickBeard are the same person. I think that Lego simply wanted to renew his awesome but old-fashioned Captain. -
Hey guys, I think there's no need to exaggerate. I posted my opinion about this set, I think I have the right to do it. A couple of guys here are saying "oh, you are bumping threads just to say that?/without adding content", things wich show a lack of the respect the user of that forum deserves. Maybe a user finds my words interesting. Or maybe not, but who cares? The question is, WHO are you to judge if it is worth reading an opinion or not? It should be noted that, at least, a half of the threads of the first page have no new posts since april 10th (a week ago!) so I don't think that I'm disturbing the main active threads or the forums in general. English is not my native language, however I often try to write extensive opinions, wich takes me much more time. But if sometimes I want to express my point of view using a few words, that's my business, not yours. Sorry guys for my english and my serious tone, but I can't agree with you if you undesestimate an user.

The simplicity of this set is the key of its perfection. Love it.

Why the Pirates theme disappeared in 1998?
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thats a very good point. If you are right -and I think so- it seems that Lego Pirates, in TLG's opinion, was some kind of a barrier, wich was avoiding other upcoming themes like Star Wars to succeed, so they decided to remove it. That's a shame, really. -
If Captain Roger would fight against the most powerful ship his enemies ever had (Imperial Flagship), the only Vessel that would give him any chance is the Skull's Eye Schooner. The SES is the only ship capable to confront the IFS: It has crew and cannons enough to, at least, equalize the battle. With a boarding operation, SES can get the victory because has 9 armed men, against only Flagship's 6 soldiers. In addition, SES is lighter than IFS, so the Pirates could make more maneuvers, but it is also big enough to resist the enemy cannon fire and not sink after the first shots. And an other important point: The SES has two triangular sails, wich allows it to sail against the wind, wich is not the case of BSB, RBB, etc. Despiste the other vessels are really good, they could not resist neither a boarding battle, nor a cannon duel against the IFS, because of his lack of weapons, speed and maneuver.

Couldn't be in better hands! Congratulations!

Black Seas Barracuda vs Skull's Eye Schooner
Captain Fortune replied to ukdevilz's topic in LEGO Pirates
Skull's Eye Schooner. I won't repeat the reasons, because other users have done it before. The only reason BSB is winnig the poll, is because of its popularity (was the first ship) however, is an awesome vessel too. I only wanna add a reason in favour of SES: If Captain Roger (Fortune in France ) would fight against the most powerful ship his enemies ever had (Imperial Flagship), the only Vessel that would give him any chance is the Skull's Eye Schooner. The SES is the only ship capable to confront the IFS: It has crew and cannons enough to, at least, equalize the battle. In addition IFS is heavier than SES, so the Pirates could make more maneuvers, but it is also big enough to resist the enemy cannon fire and not sink after the first shots. And an other important point: The SES has two triangular sails, wich allows it to sail against the wind, wich is not the case of BSB. Despiste is an amazing vessel, BSB could not resist a cannon fire duel against the IFS, because of his lack of weapons, speed and maneuver. -
I guess you probably talked about that subject in this forum, but I didn't find any thread. Anyway, let's deal with the biggest question: WHY? I remember that january 1998, where I was a child, and watched the new catalog and didn't see anything about Pirates. I was VERY disappointed, and I could'nt believe how that was possible. Now it's funny to remember those old times hahaha, but I was really pissed off. Which were the reasons lead the Lego Group to remove the Pirates Theme? As the Great Lego Book (1999) says, Pirates was the most successful line of products, so what happened? And why they disappeared so suddenly, having only 2 years old the 1996 sets, knowing that the normal cycle were 3 years? And why we had an eternal wait to see them again, 11 years (2009)? I know, we've got so many questions here. I have some answers in mind, but I'm really interested in yours. What do you think? Sorry for the mistakes, English is not my native language.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Captain Fortune replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
You're right, probably POTC are better than no Pirates, but it's also true that Classic Pirates are Better than POTC. That's exactly I've been explaining. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Captain Fortune replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Ok, I think that we won't get in agreement about that subject. You give me some reasons, that I find logical, that's true and I respect it. But is also true that you are always ignoring my observations and remarks, reducing it at "the new is worse than the old" kwoning I said much more and never said that, so we are going to no where. As you, I don't wanna argue either, so that's it. Both opinions are clear I think, despite my english. Have a nice day. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Captain Fortune replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
After some time I have to post here again. Captain Fortune I appreciate your opinion, but there is really no need for posting two same posts in different themes. If you don't like the theme you don't and I think there's been a lot said from people disliking it and not as much from us who like it. (Yeah probably there is more of you anyway ...) Of course I must not agree with you at all. I personally loved the movies and the POTC theme and think LEGO did a very good job in capturing the scenes in sets as well as the figures. Apart from the fountain which we all know was designed based on the artwork for the movies and not of the real model! I posted two posts because i didn't know what thread was more active. There's no need to get upset about that, don't read the other one, and that's all. Economy forces LEGO to do things differently so they need small and big sets, for everyone to be satisfied. And I think that TLG did more than a decent job in sizing the sets and character distribution if we skip the "Jack in every set" problem. But hey, you had a guy with the red bandanna in almost every classic set and no one complains! Don't get me wrong I really like the classic pirates theme too - all the nice ships and the fortresses, but there's something missing - the civil part and the more realistic colors! The economy, the current times... we can find lots of causes wich have motivated how Lego POTC are. Ok, I'll tell you why you're wrong: Classic Pirates (CP) 2009-2010. Neither the economy nor everyone's satisfaction couldn't avoid a fantastic "restyling" of the 90' Pirates. But that doesn't stop here: let's check other current themes, like Star Wars, Lego City, Lego Castle, etc: so much better, so much complete. About the lacks of Classic Pirates, I think you just said an unbeliavable reason: You must not talk about CP without keeping in mind the context and the time they appeared. I'm affraid you don't remember that CP were the FIRST Lego theme wich included new faces, for instance. On the other hand, even you were right with your critics, you can't apply them at CP 2009. You must keep in mind that not all sets are designed for seven years old children with no imagination to play with. There are some people who can imagine Jack as someone else not from the movies and play different scenarios. Maybe switch a head and a hat or two and get a completely different character. That's what you had to do with clasic pirates if you didn't want to have all twins or even more same people and that is also what LEGO is designed for! Also in classics you have the pirates and the blue coats (later red coats) which mainly makes three fractions. That's how the sets are designed and of course you can play it differently, but POTC story alone makes you play it more like pirates versus pirates and have a lot more different fractions, which of course leads to a problem of only a few figs for each team. But bare in mind that the classic pirates have multiple waves and if POTC had two or three more, there would be a lot more different and cool characters for even more fractions! And of course the red coats are completely compatible with the English soldiers (I guess with a reason) so switch some heads and here you go, the whole London scene can come to life ... But there's even more to that, some people (I think the majority on this forums, since the age restriction is quite high) don't even play with LEGO in the way of using playability of sets. They play by enjoying in building MOCs and dioramas for displaying and from that angle I think POTC is a lot better then classics - more realistic and less cartoony plus more detailed. The playability is not as simple as you say, like changing hats and faces, give another use to the scenes, buildings, and that kind of stuff. I think I've talked about deeper concepts, and you are ignoring them. I said that there is a huge lack of minifigs anb bases, and absolutely incomplete factions, wich means that if you wanna have, for instance, a decent English faction you must buy two or three expensive sets, and even in that case you won't have a ship (cause it doesn't exist), you won't have enough logistic material like cannons, weapons, etc. I explained also that the sets are isolated, and have no connection among them. And i'll tell you more: not only the whole theme is unplayable, the sets themselves either. You talked about the repetition of personages (Jack Sparrow), that's right. But except the ships, the sets including fixed structures are not complete, because they aren't buildings, platforms, bases, etc. They are only parts of a bigger structure appeared in the POtc movies. They have no depth, they are facades, sceneries like movie makers use. About the price, I agree with you. Finally, you said you get annoyed by seeing us talking about the Lego intentions. It seems you do the same, when you think the majority of people here doesn't mind the playability, but only the construction. It's obvius here we are all AFOLs and don't play, but the playability is much more than talk and move minifigs as childs do. And is not only about the playability, there are other reasons why POTC didn't cut it.
