It's about money, but I don't think that's the reason. Everybody can buy everything on internet, nowadays. I think that is all related with the production of these kind of pieces: they prefer reuse it from other themes rather than make new ones. That's why I said laziness.

Don't get me wrong. I would be absolutely fine too. Mostly because I've got this sets at home in perfect conditions since the early 90s, when i was a little child and they are a very important part of my life. I only said that we should'nt confuse our expectations and feelings with the reality.

As some of you said above, nowadays Pirates don't sell well enough to maintain the line of products. I must confess that reading these kind of threads is funny for me, and it's always the same: lots of users wihing and asking for 80s-style pirate sets that LEGO won't release at all. Some of you forget that LEGO does'nt plan the new sets thinking on the adult fans, but the young ones. The time of the fortresses and big bases is gone. A very smart user said that we must keep in our minds that Lego is a company with limited resources, so they have to choose wich projects and themes will have the money, the designers, etc and wich ones not. From some years ago, it's quite obvious that Lego keep its money and best designers for Star Wars, for exemple. It's evident that SW sell very well and give lots of benefits to the company, so that's why we can find huge sets, lots of pieces and minifigs in this theme. In fact, the release on the SW theme was probably one of the main causes that lead Pirates to be withdrawn from the market in 1998.

I just ordered the promo set on eBay. I've got a thing with these little sets, and this one is even more special. Being said that, it was quite obvious that this wave would not continue. I don't feel disappointed about this because I expected it. The only hope is to have another ship like the Imperial Flagship, wich was not exactly released as a pirate set, strictly speaking. So this promo set it's more likely a "See you soon Set". Frankly, I woudn't expect much. And about the Pirate chess... The pirates are Ok, but Holly s**t, where are the shakos and the backpacks? Nasty. That is absolute laziness from Lego.

Lovely. CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP! It looks absolutely awesome! PD: We want more pics. In all sets!

Are Lego Pirate the worst sailors of all time?
Captain Fortune replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
That's a good point. But look at this: are you sure that the wrecked ship always belongs to the Pirates? An old shipwreck is a very good hideout. In some sets, we can imagine that the Pirates found these places and "fixed" it as a base. -
This 94' scan is one of the prettiest!

Late 80's - Early 90's airport (extremely unoriginal, but cool

Oceans of nostalgia now. Great job mate. Really. -
Maybe some fo you have seen this thread, Early 90s Lego Pirate Scans: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=45921 I do know that here we love that old catalogs, showing these pirate adventures with the new sets and real landscapes. So, I just thought that we could upload on this thread our custom pirate scans, following the 90s catalog style. Use your sets, your figures, and mostly, your imagination. In fact, I'm sure that some users, very used with the pictorical reviews, can do a great job in here! I will try with an experiment. It could be better, but it's a start. A combined double attack from the Bluecoats and the Redcoats against The Brick Bounty. The Pirates are in troubles!

Pictorial Review - 6285 Black Seas Barracuda
Captain Fortune replied to Lorentzen's topic in LEGO Pirates
What a review, man. Congrats, it looks great! -
Fortunately I got this set on 2000 (not the released version, the original one). And I said "fortunately" because it's a lovely set. How could I rate it, but awesome? A little Islander "army", the islander girl, Ironhook and that cool boat with two sails, the jail-polynesian statue. I must recognize that I have a thing with the Islanders. I know that they are weird, poorly based on the polynesian aborigens, etc. But they are very original, broke with the traditional enemies, and gave to the Pirates theme an exotic and wild look.

Awesome work, congratulations! However, don't you think that a third mast is missing? Why don't you try to put it at the back of ship, above the cabin? Like SES.

Thoughts while building The Brick Bounty
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Captain Roger, I think that we agree more than disagree. I dindn't say they were not playable. How could I say that, if I did it myself! Now have more gimmicks, they are modular, they have more opened walls, etc. [Eran más de mírame y no me toques,y no te lo tomes al pie de la letra. Quiero decir que eran modelos más serios y más rígidos que hoy en día]. Agree. However, I'm only saying that we shouldn't be attached to the old times. [Algunos están muy anclados en el pasado, sólo ven lo bueno de lo antiguo sin ver los avances que se han hecho en otras áreas]. Well, Perilous Pitfall has been very criticised. I recognize that I like it, but I also think that is really weird. (Look at this review: http://legosteveblog.blogspot.com.es/2011/04/lego-pirate-wave-4-1996-1997.html) But well, that is not important. The fact is that this wave was really poor and bad thought, nevertheless I appreciate the intent to be original and break with the past. Yes, they are. Maybe I didn't explained myself well. It's not a matter of quantities, but details. -
Here's the secret: I meant days, obviously hahaha!

I bought TBB two years ago. And despite the flaws, the more I see it, the more I like it. Tomorrow I will post on this thread how I fixed some of the design errors.

It's very soon for a definitive conclusion, but I think that is clear that things are getting better on this 2015 wave, in all sets. At the moment, I only miss some impulse sets, like Soldier's Arsenal or the marooned pirate. However, we must wait to the next year. We still need a Pirate base (like the Shipwreck of 2009-2010) and the soldiers' ship. If these sets didn't come, we will have to consider this wave incomplete so the 2009-2010 would win.

Thoughts while building The Brick Bounty
Captain Fortune replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
No, i meant that the old sets are more similar to the typical model (model of a town, house, ship, etc) than the current sets, so they had more complexity and were more similar to the real life. Now, they priorize other things, like the playfulness. -
Yesterday, when I was building the new Brick Bounty (TBB), some thoughts and reflections related to the evolution of Lego Pirates came to my mind, and I wanted to share it with you. Some users often feel some disappointment or frustration with the new sets, 2009-2010 wave included. I can undestand it. Here in this forums, we are not childs. We grew with the oldest Classic Pirates, in my case I grow with 1993-1996 sets, but some of you even remember the first wave of 1989, wich was completely different than the recent ones. In conlusion: we are used to the "model building" style of Lego. Those old sets from the 80s to mid 90s (mostly the earlier period) were more oriented to the "model building", similar to the classic scale models (http://en.wikipedia..../Model_building). Now, this kind of style is more used in other lines of products like Star Wars or Creator, wich are more popular to the collectors. These new pirate sets are more simple, more "direct", oriented to the playfulness and the esthetic cryteria. They are thought for other kind of costumers. This "model building" style won't come back. So it was very useful for me to change my point of view. We have to focus in other things. It's true that the sets have more simple structures, but it's also true that are more detailed. And despite this simplicity, in general the sets are solid and logical, unlike the 1996 wave. And look at the minifigs: they are much better now! If you compare it with the oldest, they were absolutely repetitive and simple! Then look at the accessories, lots of new pieces, tools, etc. Esthetically speaking, now we've got very good-looking sets, nicer textures, etc. The same happens with the colors, we've got a huge variety. I think that I'm not telling excuses, but real reasons. I keep on my loving memories the old Lego Pirates, but it has changed and it's a good idea to change our points of view with it.
