I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade here and I’m happy so many people seem to like these sets but they are literally everything wrong with legos current business model. Making vaguely themed mini builds that are lame duck copies of pre-released sets (ship in a bottle / dnd mimic dice box) is lazy; and locking them behind insider reward points purchases is just plain garbage. (Not that id buy them if they were available on shelf anyway) lego seem to be suffering from the same problem that the movie / tv industry and maybe even video games industry to an extent is. A lack of originality, leading to constant remakes of older sets purely for nostalgia points (castle / pirates) or just constantly remaking the same set they made 5-10 years ago (Star Wars / superheroes) I’m just glad we have the bricklink designer sets now, because even if lego did another pirates run, I don’t actually trust them to produce anything of any value or any interest, and if the latest cmf “pirate” is any indication I’m happy the theme is retired.

Do you really wanna see your collected theme turn into what lego Star Wars did? piles of grey boring plates on hinges, constant rereleases of sets from like 5 years ago? It’s an awful predatory business model they have with starwars fans / exclusive figs to ucs sets all designed to attack collectors, only to release those rare figs in microfighters 3 years later. Can’t say in terribly surprised being licenced by house of mouse.

I’m expecting skull eye schooner, imperial flagship, more likely though, enchanted island.

Following a lot of the blueprint that @_R_R_ layed out, I finished my Pearl reimagining. Hope you guys kind of get some joy out of it, even if it is mostly a recolour.- 315 replies

I agree the prices are insanity. However if I’m compiling a set, be it for resale or myself I want it to be as original as possible. I have a classic RMA car at home that’s close to 100 years old and getting an original fuel pump has been the true definition of pain.

Everyone loves them. Some of the best pirates sets of all time.

I know they will never do it, but gimme islanders sets please Lego.

Amy wihehouse with parrot seems a more accurate description. How disappointing.

For ragetti I’m using the Sirius black torso. New Luke skywalker hair but I’m struggling for head ideas.- 315 replies

Im currently in the process of making a UCS Black Pearl and would like to have a few figs who were never given official minis. I’d like to make: patel, ragetti, Marty, cotton, and any other original crew from curse or black pearl. Any suggestions for purist elements to make these?

Not my design but iv shamelessly adapted it and built about 60% of it while modding bits i didn’t quite like. Coming along well. Still need to decide on interiors and figures. Thinking of Patel and ragetti, Jack, barbossa, Marty and Cotten.- 315 replies

Yes yellow. I abhor flesh heads in non licensed sets.

Heard this exact same rumour online. A Wolfpack beastmaster too apparently.

I think it has to be @Horation -
Yeah forest stronghold suffers from far too much grey. I’ll agree with that for sure. I actually expect the final model to have a lot more plant life / mix up of brick colours. Totally! It’s what I love about lego most of all, there is something for everyone’s tastes and it’s why I love the bricklink designer program. I think I’m just salty that seagull bay lighthouse wasn’t made.
-
Far too much tan and brown. It’s just not interesting to look at (in my opinion). Pirates sets have always used outlandish bright colours and I feel like ominous isle seems to pop with bright colour, this, I’m not overly drawn too.
-
Couldn’t agree with this more, it feels a bit too boring, the colour palette is off too. I bought ominous isle because it had consistent bright colouring band excitement. This is just a “oooh a ship would look good in front of this” background piece. I think this is symptomatic of a problem. Iv seen much much better ideas sets get overlooked and I don’t feel this was even in the top ten of sets submitted for approval.

Forest stronghold all the way

It absolutely breaks my heart that builds like this get overlooked and some of the stuff that gets accepted by designer program gets made. I love this ship. It’s very very appealing to the eye, the shape and size feel very in scale with all previous ships, and I always liked the “guards” vessels too. Wonderfully designed and built. Would you be interested in creating a rebrickable step by step and parts list to this? It’s something I’d love to own on shelf.

Aye! I think maybe you’re correct about the innovation side. Man, I’m just old and set in my ways I think.
