[RUMOR] New Tire Type
Paul Boratko replied to Dafgek81's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Perhaps new tires are being designed to be used on the new creator Ferrari F40 that is coming out this year..? If anything, the new 42043 might have updated tires with a new part ID number... Lego does change parts sometimes and update them with new numbers... -
[WIP] Compact Supercar (CSC)

One issue that I persoanly would eliminate would be the black 12 tooth bevel gear only being supported by that tan axle pin.. The one thing that I know about gearboxes is that they will work much better if all of the gears stay true and have proper support.. That tan axle pin has play in it and will wobble a bit creating extra uneeded friction when the car is in first gear.. I would run some type of 4L axle through it.. Most likely one of these with a bushing.. Or even just a regular 4L axle will work just as good... Edit: posted the wrong axle picture -
It originally had 4, but I combined the eyebrow and ear functions onto one L-motor because in the end, I think it just looked cooler when they worked together.. There is a servo for the jaw(one way makes the jaw open and the other way does nothing) that moves a cam and pushes a lever connected to the jaw and and makes it open and then Two 2909c03 springs close the jaw when the cam goes back to it's original position when the servo returns to center.. And one servo for the eyes... I didn't notice when I recorded this, but one of the horns got misaligned and the panel on the side of the left eye came apart a little bit, that is why the panel moves a little when the eyes look to the right... It must have happened when I was carrying it... LOL.. I don't know if it will scare anyone, but everyone is fascinated by seeing things move, so I figured I might as well build something new that might be entertaining... I'll put my wife in charge of operating it...

This looks like this is going to be really really cool.. -
Nathanael's new car is actually a 5+R gearbox using the gear configuration from the Vampire GT and Phantasm Twin Turbo where the reverse gear is below the 5th gear.. The genius behind his changing mechanism probably couldn't have been executed without cleverly positioning the gearbox vertically like he did.. I too have been working off and on trying to design a reliable sequential gearbox that switches gears up by pulling a lever back and gearing down by pushing it forward using LBG shocks instead of rubberbands,, I also would like in the future to add a hidden button mechanism in the back of a car where you push a button to select a gear... Like 5 different buttons where you push one button on the far left for first and then when you push the 2nd gear button next to it, the 1st gear button pops up, or if you press th 5th gear button, the first would pop up, but no 2 buttons can be pressed at the same time... Just ideas at this point... The reason why I would like to do some type of hidden button system that is easy to access is that sometimes it is hard to get into the small area to change the gears... I have somewhat large hands..

Looks Good.. -
Having built dozens of suspensions myself, I was curious what you were using that kept your 2 front suspension arms from popping apart when the suspension was compressed down..? Unless there is a part that is not visible holding the arms together, it would seem that if the suspension was compressed enough that the towball could possibly pop out of the bottom...

As I said on Facebook, I think you did a pretty good job with the limited parts color palette that you had.. I have that same lighting hooked up on a bridge on a layout in the front window of my dad's shop... I instantly recognized that remote... -
Where to buy Parts
Paul Boratko replied to Beck's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I shop around betwen Lego's site and Bricklink... While Bricklink's prices on most Technic parts are cheaper, you just can't beat that cheap $2.95(US) shipping from Lego regardless of how large the order is... Plus some specialized Technic parts are cheaper on Lego's site... Only time I ever buy from Ebay is if I see some rare part or a rare set that someone is selling... Nothing like the smell of fresh Lego parts coming right from the source... -
Seriously, WTF does that have to do with this thread...? Did it ever dawn on you that maybe cars are what some people like to build..? Should guys like Designer Han start building cars now because he has built so many construction vehicles..? Or guys like Anio that like to build Star Wars stuff start building Bat Man stuff..? Maybe everyone doesn't like cars, but the majority do considering that cars are a way of life for just about everyone in the world and there is a huge fascination with cars otherwise there wouldn't be 10's of thousands of car shows held around the globe annually...

2015 Predator Supercar Full Article HERE Specs & Features - L x W x H (studs): 59 x 31 x 13 - # of parts: undisclosed at the moment (Anyone wants to take a guess?) - The heart of the car consists of a V8 engine; - A vertical positioned gearbox is located right behind the engine and transfers its power directly to the rear wheels; - the 6 different speeds (5+R) can be manually selected with the gearstick between the seats and has a one to one mechanical connection to the gearbox with some linkages; - All wheels are suspended independently with double wishbones; - The front wheels are steered through either steering wheel or HOG and include ackermann geometry; - Front axle also has positive caster angle and kingpin inclination. Bump steer is minimized due to the low location of the steering rod; - Gullwing doors which can be controlled from directly above the airintakes on the side and include a wormwheel configuration; - Bonnet and engine cover can be opened as well, but this is done manually and they have a built-in limitation of their respective opening angle. They stay open due to friction. Looks like Nate has some new teasers up for his new supercar design... No doubt this will be awesome..! "A New Revalation" "After many months of development a new beast is soon to be unleashed! Remember the chassis for a new supercar that was presented here a few months ago? Well, the long wait is almost over and a new Predator is on its way. Many iterarations later and updated with the latest arrival of new parts it's bigger, meaner and more accurate than ever before! A few titbits to wet your appetite: the model is roughly the same size as the recently launched 42039 24-hour racer. But the similarities do not end there. Both use for example the exact same amount of panels, both are powered by a mid engine V8, and then there are a few other features that share some similarity. But that's where the comparison ends, and although on paper they seem similar, in reality they are completely different! All will be revealed soon..."

If anyone from the United States is looking to get a 42039 set now, just get one off of Bricklink.. You can get a set with shipping much cheaper than they will cost when they are released here... I bought a several of them for just over $100 each including shipping...
