2 or 3 years ago I had a guy from right here in the United States(I think from Florida) send me a messege through Ebay informing me that he was going to start selling my suspension modules that he found on Brickshelf.. Not a "Hey, do you mind?" He came right out and said "I just want to let you know that I am going to be selling your suspension modules" I asked him why he just doesn't come up with his own designs and sell them and he said "I don't need to"... I told him if that is how he feels to do what he wants, nothing I can do anyways... Then of course I have this very popular Ebay Technic seller from Arizona that bought a gearbox off of me 2 years ago, and after he got it, he went right ahead and started selling the exact design right along side of me on Ebay... He still sells them, but ended up altering the design a bit so the colors were different, but still a dick move none-the-less... When I questioned his integrity he said "I'll flood Ebay with so many of these that neither of us will sell any" Then after all of that B.S. he starts buying parts off of my wife on Bricklink to resell on Ebay... You can't make this up... And I didn't even get into some of the nonsense that I have dealt with with full models... I had someone from France sell my Vampire GT and then the buyer contacted me after he got it demanding instructions for it... And not just the download, he wanted paper instructions sent to him... The seller actually told him to contact me and I would take care of him... My favorite people are the ones who sell your models and claim that they have improved it... even though it looks like complete crap... I could go on all day about this... These are just a few of the reasons why I stopped caring about people selling models of mine... You just can't win...

Here is another builder who I was highly inspred by... This website is very cool... Note the date on that site... "Lego Cool Site of the Week October 2000"... Still impressive today.... This guy was building some amazing stuff back n the day... His website doesn't work anymore, but his Brickshelf folder is still up...

Back when I started seriously getting into building some 15 years ago there was a guy named Jonathan Stephenson who had designed some really awesome Technic cars... Of course this was before everything had gone full studless... I know that many people here have probably never seen these models, so I would like to share them as they are amazingly well done... I don't know if he still builds or not as I haven't seen anything since these cars from 2000.. IMO they still hold up even with today's new full wave of parts... Corvette Mustang

Smooth looking model you got there.. -
I wouldn't worry too much about anyone making any significant money off of your work.... From what I've seen over the years, many people that sell off used MOCs normally go in the hole because they don't take Ebay and Paypal fees into consideration... If anyone is actually making money off of your work, it is Ebay... Trust me, there is really nothing you can do to prevent people from selling your models... I've seen dozens of my cars pass through Ebay over the years.. Sometimes I get credit for the model, but most times I do not... You just have to overlook that and have a feeling of pride in knowing that someone out there thinks that your model is good enough to try and make a buck off of... I also have a feeling that T.L.E. was just kidding... You should also send that seller a messege and tell them to embed the HTML for the youtube video for the Tachikoma spider in the desription.. It would really help if people could see it in action...

I guess that what I meant was how far would Lego would go as far as pushing certain limitations and boundaries within a model using their standards... There is no doubt in my mind that their design team could embarrass me 7 different ways on a Sunday, but luckily for me they have many factors that they must abide with in order to meet their company's criteria...

Fair enough.. Points taken... Appearance to me is more important than functions though.. I often see builders hurting their designs because they are trying to build the exterior around functions they are trying to cram in... I am always going to build with a mindset of "What would Lego do?"

I sent a few messeges out to the guys at Lego ideas... I also posted about this on their Facebook page.. Wouldn't you just love to find the people who do these kind of things and kick them square in the nuts..? Amazing model by the way, I don't know how I missed this... -
Yes, everything else is manual.. I actually had a really cool door mechanism that opened the doors in kind of a simple butterfly motion, but I just couldn't get it incorporated properly and I didn't want to have something that just didn't look good, so I scrapped it.. I am all for new functions as long as they are practical and can be done properly and are reliable... Every new car that I do is designed around some type of new idea as the base for it, like this one being around the gearbox... I also used a different type of suspension set-up in the rear to gain the needed space for the engine to fit in while maintaining the same width, something that I had never done before... Also it was extremely challenging to design an entire rear section that could not only be tilted backwards, but also lined up perfectly with the rest of the car.. There was a lot of 1/2 stud offsetting to achieve this.. I like to think that bringing new build techniques or ideas to the table can be just as important as new gimmicky functions.. Of course the functions are what always stand out in the end...

"X" just sounds mysterious and "19" is the day I was born on... So I went with X Nineteen... That is actually X1/9 (X One-Nine) I maybe should have used a hyphen in the number like this X-19 for X-Nineteen...

As soon as he is ready, I will make a new thread for it... As soon as we get a break in the weather I will get a vid together.. I need the natural light and it is very cold outside right now...

General Part Discussion

Another thing that could be useful with the new gear is that you engage the gear with one driving ring while using another driving ring as an extension on the other side of the gear that could then lead to another clutch gear if you needed to having 2 things moving at once in different areas off of the same switch...- 5,509 replies

It was kind of a combination of knowing about how much better the new driving rings were going to be along with the early pics that he shared with me... I had toyed around with linkage gearboxes in the past, but due to the fact that I hated how finicky and inconsistent the older driving rings were, I abandoned them... Many people have done linkage style gearboxes in the past with gearbox placement in the rear, but with the new parts, I feel that they can now be designed to perform more consistently... Nate's gearbox is very unique because it is actually vertical rather than done the standard way... By the way, I have seen Nathanael's current status on his new car and can confirm that it is pretty special... As expected, he did an amazing job with it..

Yeah I agree, the red color does suck.... The clutch fins are thicker in the new red gears than they are in the older DBG gears, so they can handle a bit more strain...- 5,509 replies

That gear/driving ring combo also has a couple other advantages over the old one... For example, the changeover catch will not slip past the engagement point because the driving ring does not engage into it quite as deep as the old style..- 5,509 replies

The gear is most likely double-sided so that people can't screw up and place the gear in backwards... I know of people who have placed the old gear in backwards and then had to tear apart the entire model to fix it...- 5,509 replies

Since the other thread got locked, I will present these models in this new thread. I always wanted to do a Police style car so this seemed like a great opportunity to do a proper Yin & Yang take on the same vehicle... Both models feature many new 2015 parts including the new driving rings and gears in my first ever linkage style gear shifter... The black one does use some parts that are either impossible to find(19L black flexible axles) or other parts(like the 9L and 11L orange liftarms) that are very expensive... I am going to try and figure out a way to properly work around the flex axles and incorporate 16L ones, but the best presentation seems to be the 19L ones... I think with the release of the 42043 and the new white micro panels, this car can easily be done in all white, or a combination of white and another color since now the 19L flexible axles in white are abundant..
