I'd buy this Tron Light Cycle but I'd rather have one with moving wheels. It would also require me to build the Recognizer.

[MOC] My very first MOC(in progress) "Ambush"
dulsi replied to Servertijd's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
How can this be your first MOC? I don't even have close to enough plant pieces to make those trees and flowers. Nice work. I really like the path. My attempts to do something similar in the past haven't been as good. -
It is about the idea and execution. The execution doesn't have to be amazing but needs to give a reasonable approximation of what is envisioned. I believe the 10K office project does that. Sure someone might create a better version but it doesn't matter since Lego wouldn't use either of them. Both show approximately the same area from the show. Some people supported the Back to the Future project only to be disappointed at the final version created by Lego.

I decided to build Snakeweed from Nick's TMNT show to play with my kids. I found a version online someone had made. Mine is very different as I didn't like his head and didn't have many of the pieces he used. Afterward I took a look at the character from the show. That shows my colors are really wrong. Head and arms should be the lighter green. Legs should be darker green. Alas I don't have the pieces to do that at the moment.

After seeing the Triceraton in the Nick TMNT show, my youngest wanted me to build it using the big figure designs I've done. Here is the result. He felt the creatures are grey but I think they still orange as before but the show is very dark. I have an orange design but don't have the pieces. The tail in this version is not grey or orange as that is all I have.

My favorite is Orca but that is because I'm not interested in Batman. Orca allows me to create an orca tribe for Legends of Chima. The Atlantis villains could have the Orca join them or maybe they were created by the heroes to fight the fish people.
-
I did a cow head shaped speeder as well for Legends of Chima. Nice design.

For a particular subject, do you think it is better to make a large project that includes everything or a smaller project? I was looking at a Wild Krats project. While the project has everything a fan of the show would be interested in, it is very big. I suppose the simplest solution would be to make both. Make sure supporters know about the two so they support both. Then assuming you reach 10K, Lego could see the interest but decide which they want to try.

I thought this must be the cool one I saw in the Best of Batman. Then I discovered that one is different from yours. Nice work (even if I don't like Batman). @roadstermatt I already have that problem due to my Classic Space Batwing. I borrowed my son's batman mask, cape, and belt to built the figure. Even since then, I've been thinking I need to get the pieces to make it for myself. Granted I don't like Batman so I probably won't get anything else.

Very nice. I've been doing big figs that try to match the size, shape, and possibility of Lego's big figs. Yours certainly look nicer.

How long does a bricklink order usually take?
dulsi replied to Brikkyy13's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've always been impressed at the speed of delivery. I've never bothered to check how long a store takes and wouldn't avoid a store simply because of slow speed. The only time speed mattered for me was for the Best of Batman contest. I ordered some bat figures for my destroyed Batcave. I suspected they would arrive in time to take pictures but if they hadn't I would have gone with what I had. For the mini-builds for my kids birthday parties, I order them well ahead of time. I wouldn't worry about an order unless it was probably two weeks. If you need something in a hurry, it will probably be fast enough in most cases but I wouldn't plan on it. -
I've done minibuilds for my sons' birthday parties (Anger, Batrazor, Mini X-wing, and Tauntaun on rebrickable). However, I don't think that would be low enough price for you. I used bricklink. Maybe if you could get all the pieces from pick-a-brick at a Lego store, it might be cheaper, but it limits your design. For my wedding, we didn't do anything Lego related.

Good luck to everyone who entered. Some builds are really amazing. Some didn't impress me on first glance but had a lot more details than I thought when I took a closer look. I looked back at some of the contests. Batman seems to draw a large number of entries.

You probably won't be able to find instruction sheet for this. I would search for "life size penguin" images on google and just try to mimic what they did.

[Question] Selling MOC Instructions
dulsi replied to General Magma's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Personally I wouldn't buy from a site that did that. I want to be able to download it. That way if the site goes under, I don't lose access. Copy protection is a tradeoff. It's makes it more annoying for the customer to prevent copying. Given the small market we are talking about I would rather trust customers than force them to jump through hoops. Also keep in mind, copied files does not mean lost sale. CD/DVD industry loves to equate the two but that is not true. Many people would take a copy of a song/movie if available for free. If forced to pay, they might decide it is not worth the price or they can only afford some so others would be delayed. Going by peedeejay's comments, selling instructions is more of a supplemental income than a living wage to most people. -
Thinking about the inspiration for my creations: Raccoon Car, Minotaur Sky Chariot: Legends of Chima continues by finding animal minifigures which then need vehicles. Beholder, Carrion Crawler, etc.: Dungeons and Dragons Mixel contest mentioned on D&D forum. Landspeeder Spiderman crossover: Star Wars superhero crossover image on this forum. Superhero Mixels: Looking at colors of superheroes and thinking about profession based Mixels. Destroyed Batcave: Thinking about favorite Batman Brave and the Bold episode and the Best of Batman contest. Classic Space Batwing: Images of classic space batman somewhere. Various Robot Command Centers: Original Lego Robot Command Center redone in various styles. Looking over the list it seems that creations of others is the biggest source of inspiration for me.

"simple build?" Do I even want to know what qualifies as a complex build? Builds like this are why I told my sons I probably won't win.

What would be considered a "large" LEGO collection?
dulsi replied to Brikkyy13's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That is not a useful number. You don't determine the average size of collection by taken how many items exist and dividing by the population of world. You want to know the average collection size of people who collect or at least have some items. Brickset or rebrickable are probably your best stats for that. They are obvious more likely to have serious collectors than average consumers. Vindicare was in the top 5% with his collection. Given that Brikkyy13 has fairly similar size, I suspect he would still be in the top 10%. Anyone in the top 10 or maybe 20% seems like a large size to me.- 36 replies

Final version entered into the rebrick contest. I decided to purchase more bat humanoids. I also add a destroy segment which used to store bat accessories. Eurobricks isn't allowing me to insert the images for some reason. Unfortunately you will need to look at the rebrick entry for now.

I don't think I've ever had anyone give me grief for "playing with toys." Are they expecting I would play with toys? Are my friends unusual enough that it doesn't bother them? Maybe they just figure it is because I have kids.

I'm surprised this is the first time they revisited something like the Research Institute. It seemed to sell really well. Blondie-Wan did point out distinctions between the two projects that I hadn't considered. But if you don't like it just don't buy it. If you are disappointed that Lego is spending time on it, well that's going to be the case with other things since most people don't like all the themes. It's not that this project forced out the others. If they hadn't approved it, they would have simply announced no projects passed.

My son wanted a working Batmobile based on my ruined design. The windshield hinge ends up in a different place due to the original windshield I planned on using was too large. I've since modified the ruined version to match. I think this might still need some more details. This is just the minimal implied by the broken version.

You get better at building by building. Even if you don't feel your creation is good enough to post to the contest, post it here and ask for suggestions for improving. At 268 entries so far, the odds of winning are not great. I do it for fun (even thought I don't like Batman).

My favorite Batman: Brave and the Bold episode is "Last Bat on Earth!". For the Best of Batman rebrick contest I decided to try to create a post-apocalyptic Batcave. I built a new ruined batmobile since I don't have one. I really like how the broken batcomputer came out. It's not entered into the contest yet. I'm debating whether I should do more or perhaps order some more bat figures since it is supposed to be home to humanoid bats.

Agreed. I wish I could find the person who did it so he gets credit. I thought it was in the Best of Batman contest but I haven't been able to find it. I searched here as well but didn't find it.
