LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Cooper's hat looks more like a beanie than like Link's long cap to me. I think a Link figure might be likely to have pointed ears like elf characters from LotR or Elves, too—it'd probably be more likely for a major licensed character like that to get a bespoke hairpiece than to share something that only looks sort of similar. -

Pics of three sets! https://lego.juguetron.mx/lego-dreamzzz-cuervo-de-media-noche-de-la-bruja-jamas-71478.html https://lego.juguetron.mx/lego-dreamzzz-dinosaurio-robot-c-rex-de-cooper-71484.html https://lego.juguetron.mx/lego-dreamzzz-mateo-y-z-blob-caballero-mech-de-batalla-71485.html A fair number of new molds—definitely feels like this is far from the last we’ll see of this theme. I really like the raven and the way the shack can detach and form a Baba Yaga-style cabin on bird legs. But the other sets definitely aren’t shabby either! -
The technical term for that overall category of sets not tied to a particular theme is "extended line"—which also includes things like smaller seasonal sets, small sets like the "postcard" series of sets, and some of the smaller non-18+ botanicals. In this case they're things designed to sort of complement the other space sets without actually being part of the City theme.

This part is the main one that locks and it is still made.

Oh very nice! I wanted to try to make a bigger spacecraft like that, but ended up getting builder's block. This one looks fantastic! -
Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
Lyichir replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree with this. I've seen "that tiresome argument" used to describe anything from ACTUAL simplification of builds for younger builders to "this expert-level build has bright colors". Having people be more specific forces them to consider what exactly they're describing, turning what would otherwise be used largely as a one-word conversation ender into something that can actually kickstart a more reasoned discussion. -
Probably an April Fools joke. I seriously doubt they'd opt for the maxifig style for figures who don't yet appear as minifigures.
-
To be honest I prefer the way Lego did "collectible" sets (brick-built characters, mostly enemies or generic NPCs you could easily use duplicates of) over a CMF series of mostly unique characters. There's also not that much visual variety if you stick to mostly human characters (and there's no way they'd do Mr. L, a character who appeared in one game over a decade and a half ago).

While Brickset's article comments are more representative to an extent, I wouldn't necessarily consider them to be a better community in all respects. Sometimes a mature community like Eurobricks might have more complaints, but on the flip side sometimes long-term users will be less reactionary overall (since they've adapted to many changes over the years and often have mellowed a bit to not view something they see as a negative quite as catastrophically). Your mileage may vary, but there are reasons I tend to still like Eurobricks even as other sites and social media have risen up to dwarf it as far as the size of the community is concerned.

You ought to be able to buy it in-store before then if you have an Insiders account. I feel like that kind of "early release" promotion is less because they don't have the set ready for everyone, and more just to help stagger the initial demand a little to help reduce crowds (in-store) and site traffic (online).- 686 replies

The M-Tron astronaut's backpack is not a new part (though the 1x2 plate with hazard stripes attached to the bottom is a useful new print, and the claw+hose attachment is a new mold). The modern astronaut backpack print, on the other hand, is new.

Smaller magnets can be a major hazard for kids if they were to swallow them, leading to stricter laws about magnetic toys in several countries. So nowadays magnets have to be encased in an unopenable plastic shell that's too large to potentially swallow. -
"YMMV" is an acronym meaning "Your mileage may vary". The phrase originates in car commercials but on the internet mainly is used as shorthand to mean "your opinion/experience may differ from this".

2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Lyichir replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Ah, fair! I suppose if you weakened something like a trebuchet enough for it to be reliably safe it'd lose the appeal altogether. Plus since it'd be less intuitive to aim than a small shooter that fires more or less directly forward, you couldn't exactly rely on the little "do not aim at eyes or face" callout. -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Lyichir replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
To be honest without any concrete info about whether or not there will be castle sets, this kind of discussion probably is better suited to the existing Future Castle Sets topic. After all, speculation about the future is pretty evergreen. Personally I feel like castle is slightly less suited than space for a cross-theme promo like the space one, since space's time range of present-to-future fits better into major existing themes like City and Friends than a historic/fantasy theme like castle would (as much as I'd like another original fantasy-styled mini-doll theme like Elves). But I suppose castle could still fit into themes like Art, Classic, Creator, Icons, and Minifigures. I doubt Lego's lawyers are too concerned about that sort of thing. I assume you're alluding to the Osprey controversy but there's a world of difference between vehicles used in modern-day militaries licensed from real-world military contractors, and something like a trebuchet or similar siege engine with no financial ties to any real-world organization and no baggage tied to their use in modern conflicts. -
The City space sets definitely aren't any more targeted toward adults than things like Ninjago and Monkie Kid. I think the reasons for the use of trans black in the City space sets are a combination of realism (to ground the more sci-fi designs a little more so they're not as much of a departure from the City theme as they otherwise would be) and novelty (because trans black is one of the newest transparent colors in Lego's color palette and this is one of the first themes/subthemes to use it this heavily, the only others being Speed Champions and a couple isolated sets in other themes like the Concorde or a couple Sonic the Hedgehog sets). Personally I like it though—it feels fresh and new, and doesn't feel "biased" toward any one of the colored sub-factions within the theme.

My confusion was more the assertion that classic space fans were somehow uniquely mistreated compared to fans of other themes, which is not even remotely the case. Classic space is one of the most frequently referenced and homaged retro Lego themes, and one individual set not being based on it does not negate that.
-
I mean, it's weird to insist Lego's "own Space theme" had a single distinct design language when it tended to be more like a collection of different subthemes all with different aesthetics (apart from sharing certain parts, which is more a consequence of the limits of the system at that time than anything else). As a fan of many of those old space themes growing up I don't see why something like the City or Friends space sets this year are considered unworthy successors to that legacy, other than stubbornness on the part of older fans. To be honest I think the "Space" theme is bigger now than it has been in a long time. We're getting a CMF series, subthemes across multiple different major themes, and (admittedly) weird endeavors like this supposed movie tie-in set. Compare that to a decade ago, when the Galaxy Squad theme had just ended and the ONLY space set was a GWP Classic Space minifigure. There's a lot more choices available for Space fans today, including not just nostalgic throwbacks but also other sets that push the category of Space sets in new and interesting directions. If you're going to dismiss all of those and gripe instead about wholly unrelated and imaginary issues like "549 different skin tones", I don't see why anyone (Lego included) would consider you to be worth catering to when there are plenty of other fans who are more than happy to adapt with the times and engage with new ideas.

"Always" get mistreated like this? The Galaxy Explorer set was just two years ago. The existence of things that aren't tailored specifically toward you shouldn't bother you this much.

LEGO Monkie Kid 2024 Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Probably not for a little while... summer sets are typically released around June at the earliest, and since Monkie Kid sets are Lego exclusive in most countries there's less chance of preliminary pics being leaked through other retailers. Often we don't get to see Monkie Kid sets revealed until a month before release. -

Geometrically, it seems plausible... but even if you could get it together properly (no easy feat since all the connections would be on the inside), I'd worry that with that many tensioned rubber band connections in there the whole thing could potentially explode if the bands shifted a little when you rolled it. Probably best to stick with real dice for this one!- 686 replies

General Part Discussion
Lyichir replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I mean, the logistical issues aren't a "fairy-tale". No theme has an unlimited budget and every one has to pick and choose what to use that budget on. In some cases that means trading printed parts for a sticker sheet and a wider variety of molds or recolors, in others that means charging more for a particular theme's sets overall. And the logistics are partially kept in check by affording each theme a particular number of "frames" for unique parts. All these things are true and the existence of themes that use that budget or those frames differently doesn't disprove that. And the themes you describe as getting "countless" new molds in fact have limits just like other themes; they only appear "countless" to you because they're outside your area of interest and therefore the new molds have little value to you. That said, for common Technic-theme complaints like "color vomit" the limits are mainly due to separate restrictions, which aren't due to the logistics of production and storage but rather overarching guidance to maintain ease of building/distinguishing parts. This is why I find people complaining about things like why Lego "can't" make all pins and axles neutral colors to be a misunderstanding of the problem—it's not that they're incapable but rather that they have higher priorities that are in many cases opposed to those of display-minded fans. EDIT: One more thing—it doesn't actually cost Lego nothing to change the color used in a mold—it costs TIME. Time is money on a full-schedule production line, and the time it takes to change a mold over to producing a different color is time lost for the use of that mold and molding machine. Many limits on things like recolors, prints, and the use of newer parts compared to common ones are rooted in those overall limits on production time, which is ultimately the bottleneck that all Lego production has to fit through for sets to come out on schedule and in the necessary quantities.- 5,507 replies

*Lego makes a massive Space promotion across most major themes* Space fans: "Are we being trolled?" Spoiler alert: you're not, you're just so hard to satisfy that nothing you haven't seen before makes the cut anymore. If the City Space sets were called Mars Mission II people would probably still be trying to find a way to dismiss it as not a "real" space theme.

Wow, gorgeous! I particularly like the uppermost windows on the right building. But there's plenty of other nice details too, and the composition as a whole is excellent.
