  1. I do have to admit that I'd like Lego to have a part like the 1x1 plate with clips on both sides... mostly because it could allow you to add Chima wings to Lego Friends foals to make Pegasus foals for Lego Elves. Not sure whether I'd want the plate to be square or round, though... square would make more sense for a lot of applications, but the one I have in mind might look better with a round plate.
  2. Considering that the Year One packs were the first ones we started to see signs of overstocking and clearance pricing on, there's no reason to assume those franchises were any more successful than the later ones. And if not enough of the packs that were released in the first year sold, doubling down on those same franchises with even more packs wouldn't make much sense at all. I don't want to seem rude, but you seem to have a tendency to assume that the things you personally would like and the things that would make good business sense for Lego are one and the same. It's an easy trap to fall into, but as AFOLs, our interests are often peripheral at best to those of the majority of Lego buyers. It's important to recognize that we are not the be-all and end-all of Lego's audience, and that our individual passion for certain themes doesn't make those themes more important or have more potential for success than others.
  3. Well said. I considered making a comment to that effect earlier, but decided it was probably someone else's turn to be the wet blanket. A "theme" like this would offer few of the advantages of a theme in general—not only would it not drive collectibility, but it would not necessarily be able to make the most out of new molds, recolors, and printed parts or figure parts, since the subject matter would differ so greatly across all the sets. I think there are ways in which that drawback could be lessened slightly—for instance, tying the various sets together with a unifying through-line like a "time travel" story, consistent main characters, and perhaps a specific set of "artifacts" for them (and buyers) to collect from each time period.
  4. Awesome mech! It reminds me a little of some of the fire-themed villains from Mega Man, in terms of both the motifs and color scheme. Lots of great techniques on display, like the diagonal pattern on the chest and the use of a Ninjago spinner on the shoulder!
  5. If it did, it would likely use 3.2mm clips or click hinges instead of the old, retired style of finger hinge. But something like that could certainly still be cool, and maybe even made compatible with other more modern window glass elements.
  6. On that note, I have to wonder if a holiday-based set would be the best fit for Ideas anyway? The production schedule for Ideas sets (which, granted, is probably more malleable than most themes) may not be well suited for the "one specific time of year" release of seasonal sets. Of course, the discussion of religion is basically irrelevant, since the Ideas guidelines and Lego's own internal guidelines are not necessarily meant to be the same thing. No one calls Lego hypocritical for disallowing CMF series on Ideas while releasing their own internally-designed CMFs for sale, because in that case it's obvious that the restriction is not a value judgment on the subject matter but rather a convenience for ensuring that proposals submitted to Ideas are ones that can work within the much more narrow confines of the Ideas program. It should not be surprising if they might also want to tread more lightly with subjects like religious holidays in Ideas than they necessarily would for their own internal designers, since Ideas projects are more or less developed in a public forum, and Lego would not want to play host to religious arguments or disagreements on a service meant to be enjoyed by kids and adults of many faiths worldwide.
  7. These look awesome! But the discussion topic link for the second entry links to an image instead. Could you fix that, please? I'd really like to be able to see more details about that entry...
  8. Huh? I get that there's not necessarily a regular pattern with Creator Expert trains, but assuming that 2018 WON'T get a train because all the sets but one came out in odd numbered years doesn't make a lot of sense. What patterns exist in Lego set releases are usually based more on how much time has passed since similar sets than on factors like whether a year is odd or even (since what digit the year ends in has no direct effect on a set's marketability, outside of sets that are targeted at specific anniversary years). If you were to interpret a pattern, it'd be more akin to "a new Expert train every 2–3 years", in which case 2018 would about as viable as 2019 for a new Expert train set. Speaking of anniversary years, next year is a big one for Lego, with the 60th anniversary of the Lego brick. Sir Von Lego has said that there are apparently five sets planned to tie in with that anniversary, and given what a big part trains have played in Lego's history, it wouldn't be impossible for one of them to be train-related...
  9. Wow! What a fantastic MOC! I love how this set is packed with both visual detail and plenty of playability. I particularly like considerations like the partially studded stage floor (great for setting up actors in their respective places on stage), and the rebuildable sets and props (a fantastic idea for a feature). If I had one minor criticism, it would be that for Lego Ideas integrated power functions might push the price point of this already very large set even higher—optional Power Functions integration, as seen in many sets in the Creator and Technic themes, might help to keep the price down. But I still think it has a great chance at success, combining display value, play value, and even educational value as it does. I've gone ahead and supported it. Good luck!
  10. Circuses are one of those weird subjects that are beloved by kids but have their fair share of controversy as well. Most of those have to do with animal rights (especially regarding elephants), and while it'd be possible to focus a circus theme primarily on the human clowns and acrobats, it might have slightly less appeal that way. I think another of the bigger challenges is that, in terms of structures, most circuses take place in tents—not necessarily the best subject for a Lego build, but nonetheless integral to the overall "feel" of a circus.
  11. If he's truly like Merlock, he shouldn't be a sticker—unlike the other stickered banners in various sets, the banner piece used for Merlock was printed. Of course, there's always the chance Monstrox would be stickered, particularly if they didn't foresee the piece being used in other sets... but printing would certainly be nice.
  12. Question: By an 8x8-sized space, does that refer to the model as a whole or just its footprint? For instance, if a model included a tree or foliage that extended past the boundaries of the 8x8 base, would it still qualify?
  13. Speaking of black panther, the sets that go with the Black Panther movie might be something to watch out for... hard to say what it'll bring set-wise (and where they'll fall on the fantasy/sci-fi scale), but based on what we've seen I imagine there it at least has the potential to offer some very interesting parts and figs for historic builders.
  14. Definitely thinking about entering this! I haven't had a lot of time or energy for MOCing this past semester at college, but an 8x8 Elves vignette definitely seems doable!
  15. Not a ton of great historic parts or figs in the latest batch of City, Creator, and Technic pics for next year, but one of the City sets does use Reddish Brown skeleton legs for a railing. I could see that being used for similar railings or banisters in historic MOCs, or possibly even for wooden claw-foot furniture.
  16. I've seen some people point out that the Pickup and Caravan set seems to include the family from Fun in the Park, with the baby grown up into an older kid (parents look identical)! I definitely think the caravan might be the standout set, though I do love that underwear print as well!
  17. Loving the color scheme and functions of the racing yacht! Shame the B-model is so similar, but I suppose there's only so much they could do if they wanted to make use of those sails.
  18. That looks even more haunted than your average haunted house.
  19. See, I'm almost the opposite—I've enjoyed the dragons but am in the mood for something new. I've wanted a big island-sized turtle or a giant eagle (both elements of classic fantasy stories) for some time, so it's cool to finally be getting them. The fox and lion are a little more unusual, but they look cool and I'm still plenty interested. If anything, the inclusion of a very dragon-like creature for Aira almost feels like a cop-out—we've already had plenty of dragons, and it's odd that a wind dragon in particular would complete this diverse series of "elemental guardians" when dragons have already been shown to encompass the full range of elements.
  20. Nope, February is usually when it usually happens (after other Toy Fairs in the UK and Germany, which are usually less permissive of pictures). You may be mixing it up with New York Comic Con, which was at the beginning of this month.
  21. To be honest I voted for silly Garmadon. One of the things I loved about the movie's portrayal of him was how similar his portrayal was to one of my favorite moments in the series (Garmadon as temperamental leader, as seen when he was soliciting ideas from the Serpentine). I feel like the movie did a slightly better job of balancing that with the tragic elements of the character—in the series, his evil in the latter half of the second season seemed forced, whereas in the movie both the humor and tragedy of the character manifested as him being a volatile, reckless character who was afraid of change.
  22. Very neat! I don't want to seem rude, but have you considered adding some of the newer parts from Friends/Elves? I know some (like the molded dragon heads, or the winding vine piece also used for the Green Ninja Mech Dragon's whiskers) would probably be pretty complicated to model digitally, but I'd be plenty interested if you could at least add the straight/quarter circle slide segments—both LDD and the LDraw library are still leaving me high and dry in regards to those, and since I don't have them in quantity physically I'd love to be able to mess around with them on a digital platform...
  23. Lego Movie 2 is supposedly going to work in more of a female perspective, which will be a welcome relief, I think.
  24. To be honest, I don't really see a need to explain the changes beyond "they look better". The ninja's designs in the movie fit their personalities in the show really well as far as I'm concerned—in Jay's case, arguably better than his original appearance, which always struck me as a little too cool and serious-looking for a nerdy jokester like him. As for Kai's scar, it may be an inconsistency in the sets—but in the show, where he never had the scar and always looked more generic for it, it's a total non-issue.
  25. I think if you look back, you'll find that a LOT of collectible "plot tokens" in Ninjago work that way (sometimes with a larger set having the full collection or with some of them repeated in larger waves). Of course, I would reckon there being six of them might also be connected with there being six main ninja characters...
