There's a whole bunch of interesting plots you could obtain from historical data. I'd be really interested to see two 3D plots of sets since the release of the 8275 PF bulldozer: - PPG (adjusted for inflation) vs model weight vs release date - PPP (adjusted for inflation) vs piece count vs release date These two plots alone would allow a comparison of six important distributions/metrics when viewing orthogonal planes: - PPG vs model weight (how the amount of resources affects price) - PPG vs release date (evolution of PPG) - model weight vs release date (evolution of set weight) - PPP vs piece count (how the piece count affects price - effects of mass production) - PPP vs release date (evolution of PPP) - piece count vs release date (evolution of piece count) It'd also be nice to see both plots superimposed on one another to view how PPP and PPG compare. Colouring data points by set size (piece count), PF and pneumatics could also show how pricing is affected by each.

42099 Mods and Improvements
Bartybum replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I’d love to see someone overhaul the suspension and give the model live axles and maybe even four wheel steering -
It’s so nice to see a supercar moc that respects the design lines and contours of the real thing. I reckon you’re one of the very few who are able to properly utilise panels and come up with something that isn’t warped and boxy. Aside from the back which looks a bit off (the thin rear bumper doesn’t join the side panels as gradually as in reality, and the side panels extend backwards a little bit too far), you’ve absolutely done the rest of this car justice

Oof - Depends on the commercial. Some are meant to be analysed and thought about, while others are meant to just be watched and taken at face value. I’d argue that an ad about a toy dubbed the “X-TREME OFF-ROADER” (can practically taste the testosterone in the air) exploding into bits falls squarely in the latter, and that anyone looking deeper into it might have better things to direct their energy at. - I’m assuming this is sarcasm, so there really isn’t much to say other than yeah, you sounded offended.

Kids aren’t gonna suddenly be driving their Lego sets off great heights... It’s effective marketing because it spreads the Lego name and reinforces brand recognition. Effective marketing is also showing your Lego doing something cool and different... like exploding in an extreme impact test. These are basic marketing principles.

Because destroying Lego sets is an effective marketing tool - people like watching Lego explode (just look on YouTube). The toy's advertised as an extreme vehicle, so it's being treated in the extreme. It's also only a few sets out of thousands produced - the waste is negligible, especially when you compare Lego to other non-reusable toys, MANY of which inevitably wind up in landfill, or stuck down some poor dolphin's throat. Apparently I'm one of the few that are totally okay and even supportive of this video - it's very surprising to see adults getting so riled up over a rebuildable plastic toy coming apart. I bet nobody here bats an eye when they watch other things get destroyed in slow motion. Pump the brakes my man - you're taking a marketing video about a kids' toy personally. I'm in the same position as you, but you don't see me getting upset that I can't afford it. I get the vibe that much of the sentiment against this video is people just getting insecure and perceiving it as someone not valuing their hobby as much as they do. It might be worth for some of you to step back and put things into perspective my dudes.

You see, I never understood this stance against using AA/AAA batteries. I'm firmly of the opinion that if someone lives in a house, then chances are they rely on some battery powered appliances like remotes, etc., and so they should already have rechargeable batteries as well as a recharging station. Maybe my family is just ahead of the curve...

Lego 42098 Car Transporter Mods
Bartybum replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Is this mod only compatible with the Mustang wheels? If so, that's a bit iffy. Other than that, great work! Really liking it so far -

I wouldn't be so sure. Both the Chiron and 911 had stickers didn't they? -

Will be interesting to see if this 1H construction set has pneumatics -
Oof, this price seems quite steep. Figuring about $0.16pp AUD for the parts alone (fairly standard), 958 parts without PF/C+ would cost ~$155, meaning there's $225 worth of electronics here. I'm really starting to worry that 42100 is gonna encroach on the $900+ mark , since it's got over twice as many electronics, and four times the parts. I'm straight up not prepared to fork out that much for a few extra play functions.

Press Release: Creator Expert 10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
Bartybum replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That may indeed be case, although it doesn’t explain why the Mustang didn’t have any silver pieces when it too should have. From what I can tell, silver isn’t really a difficult colour to produce, and Lego can definitely do it en-masse; just look at Bionicle. I suspect it may just be lame cost cutting.- 129 replies

Press Release: Creator Expert 10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
Bartybum replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Couple of things I'd consider a con: Lack of silver pieces - I can totally get behind not using chrome anymore, because the plating just comes off as the years go by, but it'd have been nice to have something shiny instead of the boring LBG. The front fork is unusually fat when compared to the real thing (I really agree with you here @Sariel). I feel like going half a stud diameter thinner would've done the trick. I wonder if they tried that, but found it to be too wobbly. Lastly, the body does seem too tall in comparison to the wheels, and it really shows when you compare it to the real model. Other than that, for something made of Lego, the detail is really nice.- 129 replies

In that comment's defense, the only unreasonable things they've said are that C+ brings nothing to the table, and that the battery box is unreasonably large. Colour/sticker vomit and bad connector systems are a valid concern. I'm happy to concede for now though, as long as you don't go blaming individual generations for this behaviour. All generations exhibit entitled behaviour, because there's shitty people everywhere.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
Bartybum replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Except for the fact that the Mack was included in the regular set lineup, whereas this Defender wasn't. -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
Bartybum replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
42110 is an anomaly because it's just appeared out of nowhere. It isn't part of the UCS lineup (which come out on even years), and it wasn't attached to the standard Technic lineup. Anyone trying to make sense of this set and what it means for Technic releases is wasting their time, unless another licensed anomaly shows up in future. A sample size of one isn't enough to make any speculations other than "it might happen again in the future". -
Pump the brakes dude. If you're gonna go ahead and blanket-blame an ENTIRE generation, choose your arguments damn wisely. And then bring those arguments to the table - don't make me go look for them myself. What you've just described above is perfectly valid criticism of a set. If a premium product doesn't function properly, has poor function counts and is thought to look ugly, why should people shut up about it? If they bother you, then you need to grow thicker skin pal. I haven't seen anything here that I'd call entitled complaining. Am I entitled for having wanted this set to include live axle suspension, and then being disappointed that it didn't? Am I entitled for saying that I'm no longer gonna buy it? Stop being lazy and blaming generations, you only further fuel societal divide.
