Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Bartybum replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is exactly what people were saying about 2017, that there'll likely be an IP car. And yet, nothing. Don't fall into this kind of thinking -

I've gotta admit, as basic as 42084 Hook Loader looks, I really dig it. It has that 80s cabover truck appearance, and the rugged off-road looking tyre treads really suit it. It looks far better than the truck in 42060. -

Have they actually? Without 42054 and actually 42039 (I only realised this one like 10 minutes ago), what other sets have changed significantly? Like, this is a genuine question, not at all meant to oppose you. -

I disagree. With exception to 42054, prelims are a VERY good indicator of the final set's final form. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these leaks (given that they're from a catalogue) are made for retailers. They wouldn't trick retailers into buying a set that looks completely different than advertised. -

I know we don't know much about the design process, but my god, I feel exactly the same. -

I don't understand why Whack and Bash, both Lego Racers vehicles, are even part of the Technic lineup at all. This isn't what Technic should be about :( I wholeheartedly feel that the low price racing vehicles should be in the Lego Racers theme like they used to be - the two new small sets this year, 42059, 42058, 42047, 42046, 42034, 42033, 42027, 42026, 42011 and 42010 don't belong in Technic at all -

All those small sets look so bad ): why can't TLC make small sets that look nice? So hyped for that Mack truck though! -
[MOC] - 42055 MK 288 BWE

I'd hate to think how impossibly long it would take to create a deconstruction album for this. This is amazing in every way -
Nah stuff that, Imma rant. For a set that was in development for two years, TLG underdelivered pretty damn hard.

For the crappy quality and functions of the released set, that's SUPER depressing -
UCS Venator class SD bloody hell please TLC, it's the sexiest non-OT SD there is

Works with beans tho so I don't mind too much :P I think eventually it's going to come to me redesigning the arm altogether. I might go for cable supports

I found a way to block those two points on the pivot. Also, I found a simpler way to get rid of the 5L beams getting caught, which was to just remove them and the pins holding them. I did this because I found that in my previous solution, the connecting tray was in the way.
-
@nguyengiangoc I just finished the set, and you can't actually place two 5L beams there because they interfere with the connecting tray. Instead I used two 4L L-beams. However, I found two points on the conveyor belt along the frame pivot that stop it when a load gets caught. I blocked one with a 3L pin + pin connector round 1L, but can't put anything in the other one because there's no connection points there. Not sure how I'm gonna fix that :/
-
@nguyengiangoc So there's the LBG 5L beam that's part of the conveyor. It gets caught on the ends of those two DBG beams like you pictured. I'm wondering if simply extending those two DBG beams (by adding new ones) will prevent the 5L from getting caught

Bartybum replied to DarthTwoShedsJackson's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I know it's old as hell, but I just saw this and damn it's beautiful. Good job man -
@nguyengiangoc Oh man, that's actually so bad. I haven't gotten up to building that part of the set yet. Do you reckon two 5L beams on the inside of those DBG beams would stop it getting caught?
-
@nguyengiangoc I see. I don't really like relying on clutch gears to not slip. I think I'm instead going to try source the high friction and see if i can redesign those points
-
@nguyengiangoc More torque, but not so much that it could cause the gears/axles to snap. By increasing the output speed, don't you just make it more prone to slip?
