LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
Bartybum replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
So I got a chance to hit up a Lego shop today, and my god the Solo buildable figures are EXPENSIVE. Checked online and yep, $45 AUD a figure is a total rip off. What the hell -
Not necessarily. If the BWE ring is fixed to the undercarriage then you can have a gear from the superstructure that moves around the inside of the ring to rotate the superstructure. My bet is that the set uses precisely that, along with some small rollers on the top of the ring keeping the superstructure level. It probably uses a system similar to 42009 i.e. a single axle through a turntable, that then acts as the input to the outriggers. I’m sure stability won’t be a problem.

I’d tend to disagree on that point. You’d want the motor and hence BB to both be located closest to the majority of functions, in this case in the superstructure. That way you have less gear reductions and therefore friction. Plus, since we know the boom is gonna be a long one, you want a suitable counterweight i.e. a BB! The outriggers are already there to stabilise the crane when operating.

Steering should be like this: motor -> worm gear -> clutch gear -> gear reduction -> steering gear That way the steering will be safe from damage and slow enough that you can re-centre it. -

Ah man I love Venators. It’s criminal that Lego haven’t released a UCS Venator yet ):- 68 replies

I’m cool with some gaps as long as the contours of the car’s bodywork are near perfect -

To anyone who’s complaining about the lack of tracks, think about this for a second. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, a) the tracks spiral, and b) the train is on either side of the track. That’s a ridiculously complicated rail system that would drive up the price of the set a HUGE amount, not only because of the complexity but also because of the fact that you’d need a significant portion of track for it to be worth. There’s no economically satisfying way they could produce the train with tracks in an appropriate scale. -
There’s a TIE coming soon for Solo, if that’s what you mean

Just brickbuild one - it doesn’t really matter if it isn’t a perfect dome. All I’d recommend though is perhaps not trying @All in the Reflexes’s version, as nice as it is, because of the ribbed dome appearance you’d be left with.

Anyone else disappointed by the fact that the front and sides of the Y-Wing aren’t as flat and pancake-y as the real thing? -

The difference in size is nowhere near large enough to warrant different tyres. It’s a waste of Lego’s resources -

It’d be a hyperspace jump to the face more like. Constraction would be fine if it weren’t for the Disney tax. -

Aww man I hope the Porg isn’t the replacement for the Clone Wars CCBS sets - that would suck hard for us prequel lovers -

Forest harvesters have more or less identical appearances though, so it would be hard to make a case for Lego copying any designs. -

It definitely is inspired by the Ponsse, but even then they still decided to stick the cab all the way at the front for some dumb reason. I’m all for modern Technic designs, but they need to have the right proportions. -

What I don’t get is why they didn’t follow a design more like in reality, with a single armed boom and a rotatable cabin over the articulated pivot, and the arm turntable in the middle of the front axles - it would have looked SO much better than what we’re gonna get. Something like a Logset 8H GTE -
