Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
Agreed, first thing i thought as well (and i expect the small shuttle in the new space line to be pretty similar) -
Should be doable, especially with the new 20z and wave-catch parts from the chiron. The gearbox probably wont go in the correct place though (behind the engine, in the rear of the car, where normally the engine sits in a 911) I havent gotten my hands on the 911, but given the space in 42077 underneath the engine, i would imagine a one-layer 4 speed PDK (like in 42056) is the first option anyone should look at.
-
Amazing! especially the rear shot looks like the car is much bigger and more detailed then a speed champion! (personally i dont like the 312T4 much though, i much much prefer the T2, if TLG had included Laudas T2 in the ferrari set, i might have reconsidered picking it up)
-
I havent seen anyone do serious mods to that though, besides perhaps PF integration. I ordered some CV joints to make it AWD, but so far i cant really be bothered, im not a very skilled axle designer, so trying to fit a suspended, driven steered axle in the same footprint kinda scares me. I personally much prefer the porsche though, the rally car might offer the same functions in a cheaper package, but after building/modding, my technic sets are 90% showpieces, and imho the rally car is just straight up ugly

Not even that, the space between the headlight bar and windshield frame is 8 studs, so a regular v6 should fit, the only thing i cant see right away is how you would anchor the front of the engine, but i suspect there is space for a brace down to the chassis underneath the headlight bar/just behind the steering bar Forgot about that, is it integral to the hotrod, or could one substitute the regular 16z clutch and two 16z gears? Either way, i ordered one of those from bricklink for a simple gearbox, so ive got one

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
Cool stuff, although pretty different from the actual shuttle, the CRS version will probably be the entirely unmanned (and non man-rated) version, and can "only" ferry 5.5 tons to the ISS. It will also feature foldable wings so it can launch inside a 5m fairing on top of several launchers, we wont see this thing launch anything like a shuttle, itll be just another big rocket -
I wonder how the hot-rod would look with a normal fake engine, like 42022, judging by the length of it, a V6 should be able to squeeze in there It also seems to lack the wheel arches, so it should be pretty easy to piece together from spares if you are OK with different tyres

good work @efferman, the RSR indeed deserves some love like this. Its a bit sad though that Lego is OK with pushing out a product like this, with so much play in the suspension, when a dozen parts can make it all significantly better, the rear suspension in particular with the half width arms, yet such an easy fix..

I love that! it looks a bit rough around the edges, but for a C-model of a small set like that, less then a week after launch, im blown away -
The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Vectormatic replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Im assuming the City sets will use different building techniques, and lean more on big parts, for the shuttle im sure the cockpit mold from the shuttles from a few years ago will make a comeback AFAIK 31066 is end of life now, so if you want it, id suggest picking them up ASAP, on the other hand, i dont think it has any special/rare parts, so bricklinking your own extended version of the moonbase should be easy if the city sets dissapoint And i agree on the coming lunar station is much more likely to be a surface base, the only space stations i can think off in lego history is the Death Star sets from the SW theme :P- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Vectormatic replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
i interpreted "space station" as something orbital myself (hence the LOPG mention), but after some thought, i do think a surface base is much more likely, which somewhat saddens me, as i would have loved more orbital stuff, especially non-shuttle derived spacecraft. Still, i dont think lego will bend realism far enough to suggest shuttles landing on the moon, so unless they want to completely ruin the playability/coherence of the theme, there will at least be some sort of lander- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Vectormatic replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
excellent news on the city space sets! I really hope this wave will include some traditional capsule based spacecraft, something inspired by the crew dragon/statliner/orion (although id personally love a soyuz), but the 200 part exploration vehicle will probably be some sort of moon buggy, on the other hand, if the luner space station is supposed to represent LOPG, we really do need some more SLS/Orion stuff. Im really hoping the launch station and rocket transport arent just another big shuttle, i understand the need for a shuttle, but that is covered by the smaller set, in the real world the shuttle is entirely played out, and having it as the mainstay of another city space line would be rather lame, especially with so many interesting things happening on the space front- 991 replies

Speed Champions 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Town
The porsche and ford sets were a different price point though, those were the 40 bucks "two cars with minimal extras", the mini set is 50 bucks "two cars with substantial extras", like the Ford F150/model A and wave 1 porsche sets. The succesor to the ford GT and recent 911 sets is this years dodge set. (which is rather similar to wave 2's camaro set) I agree with the assessment that Lego is bundling desirable designs with extra fluff to generate some extra cash though, and to some degree im fine with some extras, but in the end the theme is all about the cool cars, and bundling a $15 mini with $40 of extra junk is kinda crappy, i skipped the FXX-K, Porsche 917K and Ferrari museum for the same reason, too much fluff, too little cars for the money- 428 replies

I like 8068 a lot more, but given that this set is cheaper and has less parts, i still think it is pretty cool. I was hoping to build this out of spares, but there are just a few too many specific parts for that to work for me, but i wont have any problem just picking one up from the store Thanks for the review Jim!

Reverse engineering of MOC's
Vectormatic replied to robert's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Personally im 100% fine with it, even if the original designer was selling the instructions, your instructions (Assuming they are reverse engineered from just photos), are not necessarily the same, and as long as you dont seek profit from them, i wouldnt see the harm in that. Copying someone elses instructions and claiming credit, or selling them is another matter Im sure other will disagree though, i think some people take this stuff too seriously, but that is just my opinion -
Sariel, is the IR receiver in 42095 a V2 receiver? I thought that the normal receiver cant handle two L motors, hence the V2 being used in the crawler Either way, seems like 42065 has the superior chassis, and would win decisively if equiped with L motors rather then M

Speed Champions 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Town
Haha, dont mind us man, everyone has their own view on these sets, if you dig the mini, by all means get it and enjoy! Personally im sticking to the F40 and the nascar whatever it is (camaro? cant seem to remember, i just dig how it looks), i refuse to pay the "scenery tax" on the big sets, and on this one the buggy just really isnt my thing. If they'd made it a 60s rally set with one of the rivals to match the mini i wouldve been more enthusiast I agree with you on the 911 RSR by the way, it and the 488GT3 are two of my favorite SC cars, and have an honourary place on my desk, the sharpness and accuracy of the shape and colour scheme is just amazing, it looks really sharp, and its a far cry from the wave 1 911s. The green 70s 911 is nice and all, but the GT3/GTE cars are the highlight of the SC lineup for me.- 428 replies

Short but to the point, and showcases the set well It does nothing new, but seeing how as a kid i always loved the technic helicopters, this hits the nostalgia button very well

[REVIEW] 42094 - Tracked Loader
Vectormatic replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yup, the 20z clutch finally allows a two shaft gearbox, even if only two speed, sadly i think only the 24 teeth cog would be another option, anything smaller then 16 doesnt fit the driving ring i think -

I think that is still a bit different, i absolutely love the 911 RSR from the double set, GT3/GTE cars are by far my favorite class within the SC theme, and it is a cracking rendition That mini buggy though.. only dakar fans will even know WTF it is, never mind want to pay for this shocking example, lego locking a very good version of a very iconic mini into a set with that monstrosity is a crying shame. I'd have bought that mini in a single set withouth a second though, as it is, it is the easiest skip in the theme.- 428 replies

42096 Porsche 911 RSR
Vectormatic replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
And 42039, and pretty much every other independent suspension set from the last few years, Lego only has a very limited range of parts for this kind of setup, so it all ends up looking the same. Personally id prefer some more diverse suspension parts, but given that lego parts normally should have more then 1 use, i dont think we'll ever see proper McPherson struts for instance. -
This porsche is at 1:10 scale (except for it being too long, the width and height are bang on 1:10), the real thing has 67cm diameter tyres, so the lego 68mm is perfect, the problem is entirely with the arches 42000s tyres are 81.6x36, same diameter as 42056s tyres, just a bit narrower and on a smaller rim, they would be perfect for a 1:8 porsche, but look ridiculous on 42096
-
Regarding the wheels, i checked the specs on the real 911 rsr and michelin lists a 67 cm tyre diameter, so for 1:10 scale, legos 68x33 is about as accurate as it gets Its the wheel arches which are too big, probably to allow enough suspension travel for playability, if it had to be realistic there should only ben 2-4 mm travel probably

yeah, axle with pinhole makes more sense Either way, substandard steering, a bad looking front end, and a weirdly placed HoG, along with a weird engine (i appreciate that normal fake engine parts wont work at this scale, but the motion of this substitute is much more cam+pushrods then crank+piston), im not digging this set much. I hope the small wheel arch will make its way to some better sets in this scale, hoping for proper fake engine bits, i could see a new 718 boxster/cayman (flat four in front of the rear axle), or given no front suspension, a mazda MX5 (an inline 4 might fit between the front wheels)
