Speed Champions 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Vectormatic replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Town
Lego have done something similar before, i have a F430 challenge from the racers theme which came with red and yellow body parts. I agree though, wont happen on SC, it would also require even more stickers to be shipped, otherwise there is no way to rebuild an already built car into the other colour. On stuff like spoilers, we've already seen this approach on for instance the AMG GT3 and the F40, which i really liked!- 428 replies

I disagree with 42077 looking great :P Granted though, especially lego's unlicensed technic sets tend to look pretty good without stickers, i never applied stickers on my 42000, 42039, 42077, 42039 etc... Generally only the licensed sets get stickers with me As for the next UCS car being VAG, it kind of stands to reason, given the fact that both the GT3RS and Chiron are from that group, but I dont really know what other UCS type car the group has to offer, AFAIK there are no FIA-WEC hypercar programs to come from the VAG group, so that leaves Audi and Lamborghini. I cant see the R8 being flashy enough for that treatment, so that leaves Lambo, and the aventador is getting old... Maybe the next V12 lambo?

Hmm, i really hope they dont expand the side builds in the single car sets, i dont give a toss about any of the side builds in the theme, so a part count increase which goes into side builds is just a price increase for me, without anything in return. Same goes for the ~500/600 part sets, those will probably be 2 cars with big side builds.- 428 replies

42097 Spider Crane
Vectormatic replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have to say @Ngoc Nguyen, i like the shots of it in red, could you perhaps post some pics of the entire model? Given the small size of these things in real life, i feel like red might be a more fitting colour then yellow. -
42105 "Ultimate" sounds promissing, better start stuffing my piggy bank and make some space next to the Chiron. Im curious about 42107, "2w" to me suggests 2 wheels, but range-wise that would make it a bigger motorcycle then the BMW, which imho was already pushing it in terms of part-count for a motorcycle.

Thanks to @Sariel for the awesome review! (im digging the "if this set was a magic item" bit!) As for the set, i though it might be possible to link the sway of the outriggers together, but that would mean the angle on all sides is always the same, which isnt what one would want. So the tiresome operation in that respect is logical, although given that the outriggers arent very sturdy, sacrificing ease of use for lifting capacity that is otherwise already compromised is a questionable decision. I think beefing up the mounting points for the outriggers should be easily doable though, which should enhance the lifting capacity of the crane. I might end up buying one, as i still regret missing out on 42042, even if this is a much less impressive machine, fixing it to permanently lift up some heavier load on display might be cool. -
Technic 2H2019 Video Reviews

2x bigger would mean using the big porsche wheel arches... and being able to hold porsches/chirons... Honestly, i doubt that will work strength wise, the chiron already has some serious chassis sag from its own weight, imagine needing to support three times that weight, plus the truck itself (which in turn needs to be strong enough to carry two chirons on top, and also lift the top deck with a Chiron loaded), on just three axles. Any form of sprung suspension is right out, and even then i very much double if lego axles will be able to work properly bearing all the weight. Back to the subject of the set(ish), ive noticed on my 42093 that the "pushrod" V8 doesnt run very well, on the right side the pins jump up a lot higher then the left, and if i push the car along faster then what would be walking pace in scale, i get a lot of "knack"-ing sounds. I suspected the panel running over the top, as the pins can collide with that, but that doesnt seem to be the case. I would expect the V6 in the truck and the V8 in the blue car to exhibit the same issue Really makes me wonder how good of an idea all these mini-engines are, especially in V-shapes. at least the big fake engine runs smooth even at absurd RPMs -
Might have been mentioned here already, but after looking at the pics on S@H, i found the front has some weird cross-over form of both pendular and independent suspension, is there any good reason for this? (in terms of off road capabilites), or is this simply lego designing something weird to be more impressive? As for new orange, and it getting used in future sets, might i mention 42039's bright green? Also, with 42093 using regular orange....

And Sariel's video is up as well For BMW, Porsche and Harley, i can see some win for the companies in having their product in lego form inspiring kids to later buy a sportscar/bike, for Bugatti/Claas? Not even remotely, Bugatti sells exactly as many Chirons as they decide, which is less then there is demand for, and even if they were to produce enough to fullfil demand, the status associated with a Bugatti is a function of totally other factors then toys. For stuff like Volvo/Claas, any business making purchase decisions based on what toy the owner/his son has and enjoyed playing with has some serious decision problems, choices there should be made on how fit for purpose the machine is, not the brand or whether someone has a toy version of it. Most of the big machinery things sell in lego form because of the awesome real life thing (if Lego made a scale-less non-licensed version of the liebherr, it would somehow be less impressive and cool), so it is definitely lego riding on the coat tails of established brands with broad fanbases (see 42056 selling a LOT to car guys/porsche fans who arent AFOLs) EDIT: @kbalage, looks like the RC hotrod has ground clearance issues running up the front ramp, not traction issues. After seeing the two videos so far, im not really blown away by the set, it is rather fresh and has a lot of interesting features, but looks wise it is all a bit meh, would've been a lot better if they gave the truck some brick built extras (like a proper grill) and the blue car a proper rear. At first i was wondering if i would convert my 42093 to the blue car model, right now i think i might just do the front, as the rear is pretty ugly. -
Question: I already have the Chiron, and really enjoyed building it (it felt like a whole new level compared to previous technic cars), should i bother with hunting down 42056? (options are either used for ~€200 or new for €300) On the one hand, i really enjoyed the Chiron, but i do realise the Porsche is an inferior design, with less complexity and parts, so the build will be over quicker. Also, im kind of kicking myself for not picking it up when it was ~€220, €300 is what i paid for the Chiron, and if i go used, ill have to first dissassemble it, and miss out on the numbered bags, meaning ill have to do more sorting/hunting for parts while rebuilding. On the other hand, the Chiron is an awesome display piece, it dwarfs all my other cars (including the 911 RSR), and i imagine the GT3RS would make a very nice companion for the Chiron. Would going straight for the pimp my porsche version make it an interesting enough build to bother with considering ive already done the Chiron (in standard out of the box form)?

Well done cars can be interesting though, 42077 for instance could have had a front transverse engine and AWD, or a gearbox. As far as i am concerned they can bring out a GT3RS/Chiron level car every year, i might end up skipping a few out of space-issues, but id be a happy camper. As for the leaked line-up, ill assume 101 and 102 are small sets (10-15 euros), PB1 and PB2 are the pullbacks (yawn, why do we even need two each year? especially since the previous ones stick around), im not bothered about an RC car, and construction stuff doesnt do much for me either, so all my hope for something cool is on the Stunt whatever it is (maybe a new bike?) and 107, whatever it may end up being.

extremely unlikely imho, in general licensed sets actually cost more, since lego will be paying the brand in order to be allowed to use the design for a set. Generally speaking a lego Mack truck will end up making lego more extra sales then Mack. I think the pricing differences are most likely down to regional changes in policy. A few years back the VAT in my country was increased, then a few years later lego sets got more expensive then in germany, old sets retained their original price. -
i think the solution might be to make lockable diffs rather then dealing with a static locked or free axle. This is easily done by connecting the two output of the diff with a gear selector mechanism from a gearbox, select the one available gear to lock the diff. In an RC model one could drive these difflocks using a servo. That way you can drive with open diffs on flat ground and enjoy the benefits of a diff, and when you get into a crawling scenario where one wheel ends up spinning, simply lock the diffs and away you go

If you mean the wheels right in front of the main wheel, i think they are waaaay too high up to stop the trailer from hitting the ground. And as good as the front of the "muscle car" looks, the back looks really bad. Im getting serious ford pinto vibes, rather then the camaro front. -

Hmm, im somewhat disappointed by the cab, the front made up out of a few of those mud guard panels seems very light on detail, and the inner stucture seems pretty simple. Looks like it has plenty of playability, but for display purposes, the mack is far superior. Shame to see they made the same crank-shaft mistake on the muscle car as on the corvette, luckily it is an easy fix, and only the most detail obsessed car nuts (i.e. me) will even notice or care. -

I agree that 42083 is denser then needed for something of its shape/function, but i still very much enjoyed it, and it felt like a whole new level compared to previous technic builds. 42069 seems like an apt comparison regarding part count and size, even if function-wise it will be quite different. I never got 42069 though, so im only going by basic statistics here.
