  1. Just because they have had American buildings before doesn't mean people don't want European styles. More specifically, most of the American style buildings can blend in pretty easily with European style. Something like a diner stands out a lot more as it is very specifically a part of American culture. Plus, remove the computer from the Town Hall and everything else gives you the idea of early 20th century (most notably the style of the fire engine). The Lego sets in AS are basically an Easter egg. And, from my perspective, the interior bothers me less than the interior. For example, if they made an apartment building and filled it with flat screen TVs I wouldn't mind. If, on the other hand, they made a glass covered apartment building, as is common these days in new developments, I would then take issue with it for being "too modern". I can even forgive the diner for the most part, as they did exist pre-1950s. I would just prefer something less obviously American. My biggest issue with the set, though, is the same as with the Detective's Office. I don't understand the inclusion of huge letter-based signs. This one is easy enough to omit though.
  2. Tbh I went down the same thought process for Brick Bank and Detective's Office. For both I thought "urgh, an Americanised building" and for the BB I was annoyed at the laundry (not because it split the building like most, but because there weren't self-service laundries in the 1920s-1930s). I got over my concerns about those and I am sure I will get over my concerns about this one.
  3. Pet Shop didn't follow the traditions because it had 2 small buildings. Parisian Restaurant didn't follow the traditions because it had a full interior. Assembly Square didn't follow the traditions because it was 48 studs wide. Things change. The main thing that disappoints me is a move away from the classic faces, but it isn't the end of the world. It's probably a waste of a printing machine to use one for a face not used elsewhere.
  4. It's not significantly more modern. It would still be no later than the 1950s. Definitely agree about it not being what I would hope for. But we all know we're all going to buy it regardless. What makes you think it's a "sub brand"? Why can't it just be the next modular?
  5. This is no more a "corner modular" than the Parisian Restaurant. It is just access to the stairway. As with many other people, this wasn't what I would have expected, but I will be getting it. It doesn't quite feel right with the others in the series to me, but it is still a good looking building. Could that just be the way the Chinese word for the modulars translates in all cases, not just for "that brand"?
  6. It's not. You can see there are steps down the side.
  7. I have never understood why anyone thinks a train station would work. It gets brought up by so many people and it simply can't work. Glad to see someone else who realises this.
  8. Maybe not, but it's very common in the UK and Europe. Often it was the home of the manager.
  9. The back door is still accessible, and there is another route for the fire engine to leave. Nobody ever said the rear doors were specifically for the vehicle.
  10. That's not what I mean. I mean the paths don't link and the river goes nowhere.
  11. The modulars are creator expert sets. They are a separate product line to the Ninjago sets, and the Ninjago city, whilst having connectors, does not linkto the modulars properly.
  12. It isn't a "modular" though. It's a Ninjago set.
  13. I doubt it. They've played their anniversary card with Assembly Square. It included elements from a number of previous modulars.
  14. Perhaps, but it doesn't change the fact that it wouldn't physically fit in with the other modulars. They are designed to form a block, so any track would be trapped in the middle with nowhere to go.
  15. I am highly sceptical about a train station modular. I don't see how it could possibly fit in with the other modulars. I wouldn't be surprised to see a train station set, but not as one of the modular buildings. We are overdue a new train, so it could be a train with station set, similar to the cargo port train set.
  16. A £330 expert set would be massive!
  17. Hotel: CC Brewery: unlikely in Lego Florist: AS Music store: AS
  18. I don't know why everyone is being paranoid about a lack of information. This time last year the only things we had heard were rumours that all turned out to be nonsense (like "arcade" and "inverse corner").
  19. You could use your same numbers to tell the exact opposite story. More people watched the Brick Bank video, because they didn't think they would like it and wanted to see the interior etc in detail. Less people felt the need to do so for Assembly Square because more people liked it. Personally, I am more likely to watch a review of a Lego set I do not buy, since I won't be experiencing the actual model for myself. Or, more simply, video that is twice as old has about twice as many views. Your video view numbers really don't mean anything at all about popularity.
  20. Those all sound like believable prices.
  21. Obviously it doesn't count. This is "Ultimate Collector Series" rather than "Ultimate Collector's Series". Totally different thing!
  22. Looks like the new expert vehicle is 10258 London Bus.
  23. It's not hard to believe. The wording simply implies it will be produced during 2018, not that it will be produced for the entirety of the year. That's only 6 months from now. Even sets with relatively short production runs are around for 6 months.
  24. I assumed as much, but wanted to try and let people know ASAP before we all spend 5 pages discussing whether or not we believe the new picture.
