Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
nikhkin replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Perhaps an older car could be used to attend a film premiere, but you won't find a single modern fire brigade using an outdated fire engine like the one in FB. -
You would still need to modify them as the buildings are connected by an arch

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
nikhkin replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This is what I like about them. For me, it's set around the mid-1900s. I would prefer that all the releases could be used for that time period. That's why I was so against the 1980s arcade rumour this time last year. Of course, if you want to use them to represent a more modern time, then it's simple - they're older buildings in the modern age. -

It has neither of those. Plus both fridges and radiators have existed for some time. -

As an easter egg the new set has printed tiles of the boxes for some Lego sets. Hardly evidence of the sets being in the modern day, simply a reference to Lego in an anniversary set. -

They aren't. Or Jamie's aren't, at least. Look at Palace Cinema and Fire Brigade; they both have mid-20th century vehicles with them. Brick Bank doesn't have a cash machine since they were not around in the mid-20th century and there is a typewriter instead of a computer. The building has a fireplace instead of electric or gas heating. The style of pram with both Green Grocer and Assembly Square are traditional, which could be used in the modern day but seem to link to an earlier setting. The only real tie to the modern day are a computer in Town Hall, which was designed by Astrid instead. -
Same here, although I doubt running production on one additional modular would take up a slot of another set. Especially if it was produced in smaller numbers Nobody cares, Lego least of all. Every sale that goes to the secondary market is one less going to Lego if it were to be re-released. The only people who would see it as a down side are those trying to profit because the set isn't currently available.

I think sets from series such as the Modulars and Winter Village are the most likely to have a successful re-release. These are ongoing themes that people may have missed out on the early sets. I would definitely pick up Cafe Corner if it became available again, although I'd only be interested in Market Street for the sake of completion (the design itself doesn't interest me). I don't think it's particularly likely to happen, but if the re-release of the Winter Toy Shop sold well then it is possible. I think the main incentive for Lego would be to try and reduce the success of a certain Chinese company.

Plus, whilst people complain the new ones are smaller, the older and larger buildings were pretty much just boxes. The new ones add so much more detail and variety. Assembly Square isn't actually any smaller than the other recent releases (despite what people will say), and they aren't that much smaller than the older ones. Yes, a slight sacrifice, but I'd rather have an intricate and detailed build than a massive, repetitive rectangle like the Grand Emporium. Plus, when you look at the Town Hall, it's too tall and looks odd when compared to even the older modulars. If it was wider it may not be an issue, but as long as they insisted on sticking to 32 studs it wouldn't work for me.

I would imagine it relates in some way to local VAT or shipping costs to different countries. There must be a justification somewhere, companies don't tend to just randomly assign prices without purpose.

I think this is the best way to make super-sized versions of this set. It's the way I would do it if I had the money to buy multiples.

None of the other London stores do. It had better not, since I'm heading up to London for it. I don't want to waste my train fair just to find out it'll cost extra.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It could be, but the scale seems off to me when compared to the others. It's a big job to mod it on such an expensive set. -

The problem there is that it doesn't look particularly good next to the proper modulars. -
If you look at the high-res photos, that brick at the bottom is printed. If that was the actual shape it would never be able to connect with the baseplate.

As long as you can arrange the tiles for the pavement, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Personally I prefer not to use the pins, otherwise it's a pain to adjust the sets or move them to dust.

To me that looks like a 2x2 with jumper and a 1x2. It looks like there is a gap between them.

Actually our tumbling currency value should mean a worse exchange rate and therefore the price should be higher. Luckily for us, Lego hasn't caught on.

This has annoyed me too. I'm trying to work out a way to balance it out with my current setup.

That's the first thing I noticed. With the current state of our currency I was dreading the exchange rates we were going to get on Lego. This is a little bit more than the price of TH for waaaaaaaaaaaaay more pieces and a much better looking build

I think someone ripped it from elsewhere and uploaded it to Flickr. It isn't the original

I think it looks awesome. Although those comments from "Lego store employees" that it is truly modular are clearly nonsense. I'm impressed at how much they've squeezed in. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is that the florist building looks a bit small.

What looks like a toy store to you? Do you mean to sketches people have posted, or have you seen something elsewhere? -

I'd like to be excited that it's the modular, however the (now seemingly accurate) leak we have at the moment said it'll be a November announcement. -

What everyone seems to forget is that anything but the "standard" arrangement of MS looks bad.
