LEGO Ideas Discussion
x105Black replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's good both ways! As someone who watched the original, I love it. My girlfriend, on the other hand, did not grow up with Voltron, and she is enjoying it at least as much as I am. I think a whole Voltron theme would be awesome. -
Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes

Definitely! We have what is essentially the Lion's King and Queen. I'd love the Black Falcon King and Queen, the Dragon King and Queen, etc. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
x105Black replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Might have to bring mine over for a visit... -
Indeed it is. I don't see a need to merge, as we could still use a Rumors and Discussion thread for series 17 anyways. I'm sure someone's got a rumor. Whether they're willing to share is another story...

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
x105Black replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think we still need a Wolfpack, as lovely as I think that figure is. I want a Wolfpack Bandit figure, not a Wolfpack Ranger / Rogue. Anyways, I know it's not CMF, but that new utility belt piece from the upcoming Batman sets looks like it could be very useful in different colors for a future Castle theme. -
That second project is the type of thing that just clutters up Ideas. I see no reason for it to have passed through the posting process.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
x105Black replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Beatles set has me so excited. I almost forget it's coming, then I hear it mentioned again and I get very happy. I'll be extremely happy if the Voltron set is approved. I was a huge fan, and I've been watching the new version of the show on Netflix (Legendary Defender), and it's much better than I expected. I think the Ideas project has a good chance of making it into production, as a nostalgic 80's license making a return to popular culture. -
That's pretty funny, actually.

Photonomicon: Historic Minifig Evolution
x105Black replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great thread! I love these evolutions of the Castle minifigures. It also reminds me that I was away from LEGO during a very nice period (look at all those common folk!). -
Well I know I've done more than my part in those discussions. I agree with the statement made about there being more Castle fans here than fans of Pirates or Space. I also think that the constant debate about the legitimacy of Nexo Knights as a Castle theme, along with the way the rumored "New Castle Theme" was brought to light as actually being Nexo Knights, are large contributing factors to the continuing discussions and distatste. I think that the fact that I just got back into LEGO when the 2013 Castle sets were disappearing (I did manage to get some, though) after being gone long enough to miss a lot of really good sets is a big part of my disappointment, personally. Either way, I'm trying to be more optimistic and open-minded about the future of Castle (despite all indications to the contrary). I am trying not to be so bitter about Nexo Knights.

Oh. Well I saw it posted along with the Mighty Micros, and it shares the format of character vs character with vehicles. I thought it was some sort of deluxe Mighty Micros set. My bad. Fair enough about the licensing. I guess I see the appeal of that armor for Iron Man fans. I just thought it looked like a Juniors version because of the basic design and expressions on the face and helmet.

That's the argument I keep hearing, but it's ridiculous. The main selling point of a beautiful UCS set with nearly 2000 parts is the arm printing on one of the minifigures? Absurd. Relating this to the Ahsoka discussion, if these extra details are supposed to be in more expensive sets, why did Ahsoka not get any. She is in the Combat Frigate set, which I believe is the most expensive set of the wave. I'll go further, and say that newer sets like the DC sets that have been shown do not follow this thinking. They have these extra details, and the sets are well below $100. So if it can be done there, it should be done across the board. I advocate making dual molding and printing on the arms and legs the new standard for all themes. This way, missteps like this Ahsoka minifigure can be avoided.

You mistook my use of the word overdone. I didn't mean it in the sense that it has been done over and over. I meant it in the sense that the designs are over the top and taken to the extreme.

I wish the Mighty Micros set with Iron Man vs. Thanos was just Thanos. I don't care for Iron Man much as it is, but that version of him is terrible. I do love Thanos, though, and I find that version of him to actually be adorable. He will go well with the bigfig version. And as stupid as I think an Infinity Gauntlet car is, it's a decent enough model of the Gauntlet. Also, why do the She-Hulk characters get to have full sized legs? I though all Mighty Micros had stiff little kid legs.

Not a huge fan of Sonic, but it does look good. And you're absolutely right about the ring. It should have been pearl gold (if not chrome).- 527 replies

I wouldn't say that Elves has been consistently strong. Even if I set aside the minidolls, I would say that Elves took at least 1 or 2 waves to really find itself, and that while it may be stronger than some themes, I wouldn't consider it a strong theme. And Ghostbusters has 3 sets, 2 of which I like, and 1 of which is not bad (the newest one).

This is something I've been upset about for a while now. For example, the Boba Fett that came with the Carbon Freezing Chamber could have been the same as the UCS Slave I. I don't know why they are holding out on it.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
x105Black replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't like this version of Harley Quinn. I just don't like the versions where she has multi-colored pigtails rather than the jester hat. I guess I'm just a bit purist on this character. -
Yeah, it's just a bit too kid-oriented for me. Too much silly / stupid kid humor.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
x105Black replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I managed to find a few more Rogues at a Target today, and also picked up a couple more Scallywags and another Mariachi. I love the acoustic guitar piece, and the black outfit with silver detail is quite nice. -
What would you like for the next Castle line?
x105Black replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think Castle fans are picky. At one point, I was supporting a bunch of Castle-type projects on Ideas, but now they are few and far between as I've gotten more accustomed to what I think actually has a chance. Some of the best Ideas projects that could be considered Castle projects are also very unlikely to get made. This is mostly due to size and scale issues. These are also the ones that get the most votes. I wish people would look at Ideas more realistically. I think what would be most successful is a happy medium. I'm a fan of the more realistic architecture, and don't really like the really crazy designs. At the same time, I'm a fan of fantasy, and I appreciate fantasy elements like large molded creatures and some more interesting races. I think that I'm a little more picky than the usual Castle customer, actually. I'm not really into most of the fantastical races from fantasy for my LEGO creations. When I got LOTR elves, I replaced their elf ear headpieces with normal hair or helmets. But that's all irrelevant if the other parts of the minifigure are great. If the minifigure has a great torso, legs, and accessories like armor, shield, and weapon, then I can overlook other things. I used the torso of the CMF Goblin as a peasant by replacing the hands with yellow, and setting aside the head, hat, and legs. I find all kinds of useful minifigure pieces in other themes, but it can be hard to justify a set purchase unless there are enough of them, they are desirable enough, or the rest of the set has enough usefulness. I guess my point is that there is is indeed a wide variety of Castle fans, and trying to appease any one group will always disappoint the others. It's definitely a tricky situation. But if they try for something that's more in the middle of the road, they could be successful. My personal hope is that they go back to some older fan favorites like Forestmen, Wolfpack, and the Black Falcon era (with a few sets focusing on the civilians). If they decide to make the Forestmen into elves, that's fine as long as I can replace the headpieces. If they decide to give us other fantasy races to fight against, that's fine as long as the sets are good and the minifigure pieces can be useful (like the Ash Attacker from Nexo Knights with a very useful torso and legs). I appreciate when the set design is more than just a grey box with towers, but don't overdo it. There's no need to go to either extreme. It seems like LEGO either makes super basic Castles or really weird fantastical Castles. Try something in between and you will find people from both sides of the Castle audience in line to buy it. My thoughts, exactly. I was hoping the Goblin was a hint towards the next Castle wave, and that the Egyptian's shield would be used. Then we got Nexo Knights instead. Hopefully these types of things come around more in the next actual Castle theme.
