21306: The Beatles Yellow Submarine (LEGO Ideas)
x105Black replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not a fan of the hair piece, but happy to see it in another color. I also don't think it looks right for George. A Blue Meanie would be nice. I'd prefer a Jeremy. I was really hoping to see Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band from the movie, which was also done by K'Nex: Lego versions of these guys would be awesome. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 poll
x105Black replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I voted for the Rogue. Even though I am disappointed by him as a representation of the Wolfpack, he's still the best looking minifigure of the bunch. -
Today I watched a movie called Indian Summer. It was about a group of people returning to a summer camp in Ontario, Canada that they attended in their youth. I found it enjoyable, and the cast was really good. Alan Alda was the lead, I suppose.

I saw one of the drawings (Clay), and wow. It looks even more ridiculous than this year's offerings. That said, I do appreciate the artist for the effort, and the art itself was fun to look at. -
Force Friday (30th September) promotions
x105Black replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
My guess is it will be the same as last year, a promotional brick (panel) with a Rogue One print. As for Revan, I'm excited. I hope their supplies are not too limited. -

I'm having doubts about the leg printing, as he would probably have had black printing on the toes. Still likely to get it. -
I can understand if you don't like the minifigure and were hoping to sell it, but if you do like it, you should be happy that now others can share in your joy.

Thanks for the details. Doesn't sound too pricey, I might pick this one up rather than BrickLinking Thrawn. Although I gather I might want a different hair piece for him.

LEGO Ideas Discussion

I agree that you should be able to change the image. The most updated version should be visible from search results. The only thing I can think of as a reason is perhaps to try to force people to make it great the first time, but that doesn't make sense because they encourage people to update their projects. -
What do you mean by good size? I'd be hoping for a small set with Thrawn. That's what I would consider good.
-
Same here! Apparently it is, you bought it. Very exciting, I love that minifigure.

I agree, though I haven't seen a couple of those you mentioned. I prefer the serious movies, but don't mind a bit of comic relief. The Dark Knight was a great example, and one of a few where the tone fit well with the source material.

I played through a couple of old adventure games from the King's Quest series.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
x105Black replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
All good points. I know they would likely make brick-built creatures, but I really prefer their molds. For example, Charizard (usually) is only about the size of the Jurassic World raptors, and could likely reuse some of those molds: If they went for the biggest size here, it could be done like this dragon: In both cases, new molds for the head and tail are all that is really needed. I would still consider these buildable, but not really brick-built. I don't think there's anything wrong with sets based on the various Gyms, or on Pokemon Centers. Each could come with a few Pokemon (biggest ones in the Gym sets), Gym leaders, trainers, nurses, etc. There could be builds based on your home (with your mother and a Pikachu), the Professor's Lab (with the Professor and the 3 starter Pokemon), various towns, and other world locations where Pokemon are found. Also, smaller Pokemon could be blind bagged (and most Pokemon are quite small). Many Pokemon are smaller than humans, and would look terrible brick-built. They could bring back the cow for Tauros and give it a new head mold. Some could be done as minifigures (Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan), maybe some as bigfigs. There are many ways to make them using existing molds while including an element of building. I'll agree, though, that some Pokemon could be brick-built (or have more of a build to them), like Onix or Gyrados. As an example, Onix could be made with these, perhaps with some variation on the top or bottom piece to allow multiples to be connected: Anyways, I think it's a feasible theme, and should be considered. And I also think that the ugly brick-built Pokemon of other companies contributed to their lack of success. It would likely take several waves to get through the 1st 150 Pokemon, if they even did all of them, but I think it could be successful. The issue would be the new molds. As I think I've shown above, many could reuse other molds, but there would still need to be a good number of new molds and that can be expensive. All of that said, and as much as I would love to see it happen, I have a feeling LEGO will not be tackling this IP any time soon.- 451 replies

Agreed 100%! -
While I agree with much of what you said in your post, this part I'm not sure of. It's because you used the definitive word "only" in the sentence. They indeed do that, but they do other things (like increase the number of girls interested in a set). Girls and boys definitely do have different tastes (my opinion, this is more due to nurture than nature, meaning that minidolls only increase this division). That said, it is harder for boys to enjoy sets with minidolls than it is for girls to enjoy sets with minifigures. Minifigures are indeed more gender neutral, and there have always been female fans of LEGO, but minidolls have an increased appeal to a wider group of girls. This means that more little girls get sets with minidolls (and probably increases the amount of LEGO that girls receive as gifts). It absolutely is a marketing strategy, and it is definitely working. It's hard to tell if the products would have been as successful with minifigures. I'd say no, not among girls at least. I presume that the gain of girls buying sets is higher than the loss of everyone else that would have bought the sets with minifigures, in most cases. With friends, I'd guess it's true. With Elves, I'd say it's less true, but still probably true. This is due to the overall marketing of the sets, though. It would likely take more than swapping minidolls for minifigures to really change those numbers. That said, I don't like minidolls, and would love to see sets like the Elves theme without the female driven marketing.

That makes sense. Thanks, I had forgotten this was an exclusive.

I'm not seeing any sale price on the King's Mech. Maybe you've got a link?

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion

If there is a minidoll that looks enough like Jareth, I may get it just for collection purposes. And I never thought I'd actually say anything like that about minidolls. But I think this would be the only one. -

I agree, the Rock Candy Knights were quite overpriced, even for a fan. -
I don't know that I agree with this. In some cases, definitely. Anyways, I watched Copying Beethoven. It's an interesting, although historically inaccurate film. It's a good fictionalization of Beethoven's life.

That carousel really makes the Haunted House look small. In fact, it looks to be the biggest piece in term of scale, it makes almost everything look small.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
x105Black replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have never seen it done well. That could be the reason they failed. No brick-built Pokemon. They should all be molded creatures like the little dragons in the Elves line, or wargs from the Hobbit sets, or the dewback from the Star Wars sets, or the dinosaurs from the Jurassic World line. Fix that error made by other companies and they've got a theme worth buying.- 451 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
x105Black replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I absolutely agree. The Chicken Suit Guy was a great move, and I think these new Toys R Us Brocktober packs that have been seen are a missed opportunity to do what you're talking about here. How about a Forest pack with the Elf, Forest Maiden, and Forestman. Or a Royalty pack with the King, Queen, and Princess (maybe toss the Wizard and the Heroic Knight in there). Or a pack with a bunch of the animal suits, like Bunny Suit, Gorilla Suit, Bumblebee Girl, etc. A Halloween pack would be great, too. So would a Space pack. Anyways, Seeing some of these CMFs return again in other forms would be a fantastic move. Even if they wait a certain number of years to 're-release' them, it would be smart to get more of these out there. -
