Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
x105Black replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Absolutely. This will be even more true next year with only 1 regular series. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

Agreed. -
Thanks for the recommendation. I am actually finished with that book, and have since read Asimov's Second Foundation, which is a wonderful book. I am really enjoying the Foundation series, spacing them out so I don't devour the whole thing too fast. I am currently reading Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. It's a beautifully written book. He is a fantastic writer of short stories, but I prefer his novels. He's got so much more room to breathe, and it really works with his style.

I noticed both of those as well. Good job, Staff!

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
x105Black replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Leg printing on the Riddler would have been nice, but this theme seems to have a wealth of dual molds and limb prints already so I'm not too bothered. -
I watched Loser with Jason Biggs. It was OK.

Today, I unfortunately watched a movie called Taking 5. Sometimes I hate my job.
-
I would prefer sets from the movies, definitely, but I have no issue with sets from the shows, either.

And that's what makes BrickLink work. I will be in the buyer group, looking for the figure.

Last night, I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron. Overall, it was good. I could have done without the religious overtones. It was not the best movie in the MCU, but it was still fun.

I'd like to see a LEGO Minecraft styled game where you can build anything with various bricks in a persistent world. Maybe even as an MMO.
-
I just finished building mine, and I'm quite fond of the build and minifigures. I didn't think I was going to like this one as much as I do.

This is a fantastic build. It definitely evokes the Chinese architecture that inspired it. The tree and rock are also well done, as is the overall presentation. Good job!

LEGO Ideas Discussion
x105Black replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree, and I think it serves the cause of feminism better than Women of NASA. That said, I really want that Voltron set. -
I agree, it wouldn't have been so disappointing if the true nature of the theme was known up front. The Nexo Knights 2016 thread was originally in the Historic forum, and originally had a title that indicated a new Castle theme. If it had been placed in the Sci-Fi forum, it may not have generated as much hate. The expectations are the primary cause of the disillusionment. I completely agree. Since LEGO considers this their Castle theme, it is worth asking people's opinions of it in that light. I personally feel it fails as a Castle theme, despite any successes it may have otherwise.

Yeah, it's easier to restrain oneself when discussing Star Wars than it is when discussing Alyssa Milano.

Force Friday (30th September) promotions
x105Black replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Good deal! They do actually have good customer service. -
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I've never heard of AFOL day. Was there any promotion of this? That's quite a lot of sets you purchased, though. You'll be busy for a while.

My online order with Darth Revan was delivered today. Very happy to have it in hand. -
Perfect. Now it just needs a release. Also, notice the dual molding. Important part of the character.

Along with that, how long ago is long enough? World War I was almost 100 years ago. The American Civil War was about 150 years ago. There are cavalry minifigures from the Civil War era in the Western and Lone Ranger themes that were released as far back as 1996, so that's about 130 years. Maybe we'll see WWI sets in 2048. Mega Bloks, while ostensibly a children's toy company, seems to release sets that are intended for an older audience, especially with licensed IPs. As much as the age restrictions on the box might indicate a child will find them suitable for build and play, I don't think they are the audience the product is aimed at.

Thanks, I appreciate your perspective. I loved Darth Maul, but didn't care for the battle droids, or the podracing (which I always took as a play on NASCAR racing). I also didn't like the Gungans (but I don't know anyone who seriously did) because Jar Jar spoiled the whole bunch for me. As for my most recent watch, I saw Confessions of a Sorority Girl. Unfortunately, it's not as exciting as it sounds, but it does have Alyssa Milano in it, so that's a plus.

It's too bad (but expected) that the DC Super Hero Girls sets are minidolls instead of minifigures. A real shame. But at least there should be some nice new hair / headpiece molds.

I'm sure they could come up with a clever build, but I wouldn't mind an exclusive part.

The newly revealed sets look nice. Lots of interesting pieces, like the umbrella, bowties, utility belts, and hair pieces. I love the alternate Batsuits.
