The only real issue for me is how much Discussion is allowed. Can we give opinions of a set once details or images are revealed? If so, can we compare and contrast with other sets? Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell where the line is between on and off topic. Also, all of the price discussions grind my gears. I don't want to read page upon page of speculation of prices for each set in each market, then read many more pages of complaining about pricing after it has been revealed. That gets old. So does posting about whether or not we should be allowed to post leaked images. We can't. Yes, it kinda sucks, but that's the way it is for many reasons, so deal with it rather than clogging up a thread asking about it, or complaining about it for several pages. And when a Moderator posts to reprimand for leaks or something, or asks us to get back on topic, reactionary discussion about that Moderator action should not happen for an additional page in that thread. Have some respect for the team here. Such discussion should be in a PM, or in this forum. Maybe a dedicated forum where people can question Moderator actions would be good, but I see that being a huge pile of complaints and potentially making their job more difficult.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2017 Discussion

I think I remember seeing a black and white Lance minifigure from the app that looked really nice. -

As am I, it looks so good. -
As long as the crap projects continue to make it past their moderators based on some nebulous and negligible standard of quality, this thread will be active enough. The projects won't last as long, but we still have 60 days to notice them and post them here.

A mini-doll rant by a mini-doll fan
x105Black replied to Soupperson1's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think that, in the ways in which we discussed and measured quality, we successfully argued our case about objective superiority. But you're right, minidolls are not universally hated. There are fans out there (as evidenced in the thread title), and their preference for minidolls is subjective, as is my preference for minifigures. And that's great, I appreciate that there are many different people out there with many different tastes. I'm not a big fan of punk music, but I'm happy punk music exists for those that enjoy it. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
x105Black replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Awesome, if true. I'm hoping it's the Black Pearl. In the same way as the UCS Death Star is the big flagship set for the Star Wars series, I'd say the UCS Black Pearl would be the flagship set of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. If that's the case I am hoping for a nice, full cast of characters. -
Those have been closed as well. Thinking specifically of the One Word at a Time Stories...

It will help, but it won't clear out the crap from the Discover page's most recent projects. To do that, their moderators would have to filter out the majority of submissions for not meeting Project Quality Standards, which is something they already claim to be doing (somehow).

I forgot to add that I've supported the project. It look fantastic, and I would likely buy multiples.

I love this idea, and the builds are great. It's just great work overall. But this is not what I expected to see in this thread. I was expecting something more like the Creator Expert Modular Buildings, like the Palace Cinema or Brick Bank, set in medieval times. I think that's the kind of thing that would help revitalize Castle.

LEGO Ideas Discussion

True, but what I'm saying is that it would be better if LDD had that level of rendering on its own. If it did, then there wouldn't be so many bad looking LDD projects. -

I just wish LDD had better rendering so that a lot of the projects would look better. Many projects made in LDD are very hard to tell apart from real bricks because of the additional effort to find and use good rendering software. If this kind of rendering were built into LDD, so many projects would shoot up in image quality. -

I'm not trying to say it's more or less. Both are indeed sexist pandering. Personally, I'm not trying to tell girls how to feel, just expressing how I feel. I am happy that people are coming to LEGO, whether it's for minidolls, constraction, or any other theme I dislike. But I am a customer, so my opinions are both valuable and important as well. -

Possibly. It's more that making dolls for girls feels like pandering. Agreed. You've got a point. Minidolls are successful enough (or LEGO is pushing them hard enough) to last until kids brought up with minidolls become AFOLs. I still don't feel that Bionicle and Constraction figures are "real LEGO," and I will continue to hold the same opinion of minidolls. I'm glad there are those that like them, definitely. I think what frustrates me the most is that, as a fan of the Castle theme, the closest Castle substitute right now is a minidoll theme. But there are many who enjoy Elves despite (and often including) the minidolls, so that's great. I hope it breeds more fans of a fantasy medieval Castle theme for the future (with minifigures, of course). -
If the Bantha is going to be at the quality of the Luggabeast (brick-built in the wrong colors), then I'd rather not have it at all.
-
Definitely a pity. I wonder when (if ever) the Bantha will get released, and in which set.

I like that you didn't use the stickers. I just noticed now, and it looks great without them.

A mini-doll rant by a mini-doll fan
x105Black replied to Soupperson1's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree with this post. Clearly, a market for minidolls exists. I have 3 nieces. One is still in Duplo. One loves minidolls (and minifigures, but to a lesser extent). She is 7. The other niece has a few minidolls, but prefers minifigures.. She is 9. So the age thing might indeed be a factor. Also, the minidolls do indeed look ridiculous using certain weapons. The lack of articulation isn't only about playability, it's also customizability. You can't change the hands to give them gloves. You can't swap their arms like a minifigure. You can't swap out 1 leg at a time, or even pose them in a walking stride. Their heads are molded, so double printed heads are not a possibility. Are there things about minidolls that are done better? Yes. Often, they are beautifully printed. Also, the molding of their clothing is more detailed. Proportionately, they are better. But despite these advantages, I think the minifigure is objectively superior for the reasons listed above. There is definitely a preference issue, as not everyone will like the same thing, but there are clear advantages to the minifigure that go above those of the minidoll. Ultimately, I'm just voicing my opinion on the matter, and I am biased against the minidoll. I also think it's sexist, but not because of the superiority of one over the other. I feel that it is sexist because it creates a separation between boy and girl products. It presents sets that appeal to girls, then gives them dolls, which is a form of stereotyping. Girls get dolls while boys get action figures. That's sexist. -
I'm a bit worried that it won't.

This part gave me a chuckle: I find it hard to believe that their moderators filter out the majority of submissions, considering everything found in this thread. I think that thread is pretty objective overall, to tell the truth.
