  1. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, but... how about we split the Main Bionicle 2015 Discussion up into different topics so it's easier to follow certain discussions? For example, how about one topic for the story, one for the sets, and one for theorizing stuff like reproduction? Granted, I'm mostly suggesting this because I never cared all that much about the huge load of lore that comes with Bionicle (which makes following this topic kinda tiresome to me), but maybe it's not such a bad idea after all?
  2. Very well done! I like the bone-y look of his arms and legs, and the torso is great as well. His skull looks a bit too large, but maybe it's just the angle of the photo. But either way, great work.
  3. To be frank, I've never been over-the-top creative when it comes to MOCing, as I very often relied on concepts present in official LEGO sets which I simply altered here and there to my personal liking. Most of the stuff I built from 2006 onward were essentially Inika builds, even though I went for more greebles and some other twists here and there. The CCBS didn't changed that, but it gave me another slew of material to work with. Whenever I got the opportunity, I mixed the older stuff with CCBS, especially since I became kinda paranoid about MOCing with older sockets. As my collection of HF grew however, it became more common for me to incorporate more CCBS than old-fashioned Bionicle style building into my MOCs, simply because I got more material to work with. One thing I don't like about CCBS is the limited number of bone colours, as Iben also already stated. But other than that, I like CCBS, and I'm happy that the new Bionicle sets continue it, especially since these new Bionicle parts will sure help to make more cohesive looking MOCs using elements from G1 Bionicle and Hero Factory.
  4. Kinda late to the party, as always, but I want to share my thoughts about the more recent posts of this debate. So... Eh, as far as my experiences with Science Fiction are concerned, I see no reason why robots can't have souls. Transformers have sparks, and from Mega Man Zero onward, robo folks in the Mega Man franchise can become cyber elves or something similiar, which basically means they become souls or ghosts. So if the characters reproduce by building their kids, it wouldn't really make them less lifeless to me. Though that doesn't mean I'm completely opposed to the possibility of some sort of strange biomechanical reproduction, especially since just building sounds kinda mundane to me. You know, something like when Bionicle-Mommy and Bionicle-Daddy really really really love each other, they do some sort of weird ritual thing where create some sort of energy thing which then becomes a new Bionicle. This "target audience" consists actually of fans just like you and me, though probably a lot younger (at least younger than me), and even though LEGO was always aware of the AFOLs, I'm still pretty sure that even back then, they were designing the sets with children as the target demographic in mind. So the discussion about a target audience when it comes to talking about how the franchise is going to approach more serious or complex issues (such as love and romance in this case, or other topics like death) does make sense, because it's just something we have to keep in mind in this situation. Bionicle is mostly aimed towards kids (or young teenagers, whatever). That will eventually determine what the storywriters possibly can get away with.
  5. Terms like "parents" and "children" don't necessarily mean that the folks in Bionicle reproduce through the magic of hanky-panky. Take a look at Transformers, for example. The concept of family (especially siblings) isn't unkown among the Cybertronians (though it is arguably sometimes somewhat loosely interpreted), despite not reproducing sexually. Of course, it gets weirder if we take into account that in some TF series, Cybertronians in romantic relationships can engage in some sort of... uh... intimate interaction, though it doesn't seem to serve the purpose of creating new life (there are also some series with the opposite approach, such as Animated). More recent series, such as Transformers Prime, are also prone to potray the characters somewhat more organic. Energon, which is the main energy source of the Transformers since the early days of the franchise's fiction usually appears in the form of crystals or energy cubes, is also shown as a fluid the characters actually bleed if they get hurt. Transformers Prime also sheds some light on Cybertronian physiology, making it clear they are somewhat organic, despite being still completely more robot like compared to humans. But they still come into life by other means than humans do. To be more on-topic, I bought Lewa today (yesterday?) and got the promo bag with him.
  6. I'm kinda puzzled about the pricing you got in the US. In Germany, the big Toa cost 19,99 €, while the smaller ones cost 14,99€ (and the Protectors go for 9,99€). Granted, I don't know how about the wealth of the two currencies here, but still...
  7. Wait, what? I live in Germany, and Queen Beast costs 39,99€, according to the catalogue. The chest add-on looks a bit too beefy in my opinion. On super-muscular comic heroes, it works fine, but I think on the supposedly more lean characters it would look kinda odd, at least to me. I'm more concerned by the shoulder armour though. Torso shells would be waaay to big here. That kinda makes sense, even though a few pages earlier it was mentioned that the SW forum wasn't all too fond of constraction figures, so maybe we should keep them here...?
  8. On the note of how they will eventually look, I hope they won't recreate the super-bulky look of the Super Heroes Ultrabuilds. I think neither the hero chest add-on nor the torso armour on the shoulders would work that well for the Star Wars characters.
  9. Though it may be also possible that they'll go with Luke's outfit from Episode V, or maybe even his Episode IV attire. But yeah, I think too that his black jedi outfit is the most likely one.
  10. I guess I should give some context to the "ending" that I provided for the Haiku:
  11. I'm all game for the new Frosticons. Bright blue and cyan are favourite colours of mine. I'm also liking the Steampunk and Construction folks. I'm tempted to get all of them and mashing them together just for the sake of saying "Constructicons, COMBINE!"
  12. Oh my bad, you're right with that. I am a disgrace to our clan. Since I let the imagery of these sets sink in, I had a few ideas for how to use these new bones. One that I will definitely attempt is to build something similiar to the Necrons of Warhammer 40.000, I think that would work great with all that trans-apple green and stuff. The torso might be a bit challenging, but not impossible I think. Oh, I wouldn't have realized this is a Haiku, partially because I only flew over the past few pages, partially because I don't know how to read haikus. Also, there was the ending missing:
  13. Finally, pictures of the new toys. I have mixed feelings about the new skeletal bones. I like the overall look of them, even though they're not a versatile as the bones we've come to get used to over the past few years. But they look pretty sweet nonetheless. I also LOVE the new axe piece that Grinder and Basher come equipped with, mostly for the prospect of actually having a worthy successor to Axonn's axe which is still used by my Self-MOC.
  14. That's great news. I'm really looking forward to Vader, Fett and Grievious. I'm not surprised that they went with Cody instead of a generic Clonetrooper (or Stormtrooper, for that matter), since a named character simply sounds more interesting than a generic dude. I think Clone Wars Obi Wan would look not that terrible in CCBS, as the stylized aesthetic may be able to translate fairly well into LEGO. Luke on the other hand has to be really comic-like to work, which may be either great or meh.
  15. I'm not sure if anyone already posted this, but the first wave of Bionicle recently hit German shelves in the LEGO stores. I was there yesterday and got Kopaka. And I like him a lot. Though he will be ultimately mixed with Tahu for various reasons. I'm pretty sure I'll pick Tahu up tomorrow. Also, this. The Stars feet would work great with the new armour pieces, and they are alrady just more versatile due to their shape.
  16. I only got Fangar so far, and I'm kinda tempted to get one of the other sets too for the axes, but I'm unsure which one since I already got a good chunk of the older Chima Dudes once they went on sales.
  17. Huh, I must say, the Piraka were among the sets I passed, as I didn't like their heads and the design of their arms. I later got three of the brown one (due to being only 2€ each), and I must say, they did have some nice pieces. I particulary like the light-up eyes, especially since these also work with the Toa Metru heads.
  18. Man, I don't know why, but somehow I got kinda detached to this discussion - or to Eurobricks in general (I remember that I wanted to make a review of Brain Attack Evo simply because nobody else did that to my knowledge, but I guess it's really too late for that now). But I'm nonetheless super-excited for the new Bionicle sets! I guess it's just that I'm more interested into them from a set-view, which means I don't care that much about the story. I'm also intrigued to learn that they already start showing up in stores. Are there any informations on sightings of them in Germany though?
  19. Thanks for another review, VBBN. I think the Protector of Earth is my favourite Protector. His colours are nice, and I like the overall build of this guy, although his weapons do look somewhat clunky.
  20. Great review! I agree with you on Lewa's mask, it looks very boring compared to his older Mirus, and I'm sad that it neither reflects the unique shape of his original mask, or the more warrior-like feel of the Nuva variant. I'm okay with his weapons, but I would still upgrade them once I'll get him (though in the end, I plan to mix up all six Toa anyway to recreate my original Toa I came up with so long ago...).
  21. I thought also at first of TF2's Pyro, so I was happy to see this fellow is based on him/her/it! As already said multiple times, the mask is pure win. Are there any chances you'll add a Pyroland alternative for the equipment?
  22. Aside from his stubby arms, I like this guy. Thanks for the review.
  23. I really like this version of Pohato. Be it the colours, the jetarangs, or the awesome fact I just realized now is that his elbow joints can rotate. I'm extremely glad LEGO does this in an official set, and I really hope they'll continue this trend in future sets.
  24. I never thought about the possibility that there are people who are not happy with Bionicle keeping the system established with Hero Factory, mostly because I tend to mix and match both styles. Also, I can't agree with Hitler saying that Bionicle was more organic, as especially the very first Toa just looked as robotic as the current ones do. Keep also in mind that he ate sugar. That said, I haven't seen many of those Downfall parodies yet. Besides, they are kinda confusing to me because since I am German, I actually understand what everybody is saying, so it can be sometimes confusing to listen to Hitler ranting about how he's about to lose the war while the subtitle tells something entirely different. On a different note: Is there a particular background to the "He'll calm down once they remake Jaller" line? I mean it's funny, but from the reactions, I get the impression that Jaller is some sort of holy grail or so.
  25. After your review, I finally realize that the new Kaukau is actually a non-transparent version of the original mask. Thanks for the review. I'm really looking forward to Gali, as I like her design. Especially the mermaid mode looks awesome. Oh, by the way, the German translation on the back of the box fails to refer to Gali as a female (it would be "Meisterin" instead of "Meister"). The same happened waaay back when the first wave was released, but it was quickly fixed in various promotional gimmicks.
