LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
You speak from my heart. So many references, so many possibilities. So much beauty in this set. I will not buy as no space and money as it was with the other City sets (though I will not complain as the proud owner of all Bountys . But I can respect from a distance and hope to see all 3 City sets next to each other one day in person somewhere. Trying to explain I think people hype up one thing and get disappointed from whatever comes after. Instead of seeing the 1st Ninjago City set as kind of a gift due to its incredibly low price - people were complaining about the 2nd one even if it was still really good deal. I really can just be happy something so niche can exist in a commecial market, with all these nice references and details. One I'd like to point out is the statue for Master Chen(?) to advertise the nudle restaurant on the left side. I cannt make out quite what prints it has though . Despite some changes which I dont find optimal, the Ninjago "franchise" is really a hidden gem of artistic expression in many ways. I hope sets and series can appear in this high quality for some time. Its the only theme I still invest money and space in just out of respect for the amazing designs. Ok enough praise, RIP Kirby Morrow - thank you for your contributions. -

Ninjago is quite clever. There's always tons of clues and open plot points left for future expansion. Even the overly explored Garmadon story has been reopened with s9-11; and could be revisited again. For fun once I made a plan (to distract myself form waiting in hospital ; ) for Ninjago and after 30 seasons expansion I stopped. There's unlimited potential and if you go into details they tease quite a bit but sometimes dont actually explore it until many seasons later. In interviews they said answers will be given about Zanes origins (the guy who visited and gave him his powers). This was teased a bit one season before he became the ice emperor. When the season aired nothing was revealed. It's likely also that many plot points and cameos fall due to cuts. -

they all have pros and cons. Most brick built dragons of the last years were pretty phenomenal I think and have a depth the molds dont share. The jungle dragon's print-details for example looks a bit "flat". Master Wu's dragon's head was really good for the time but looking at it now; it lacks a propper shape. -

Unfortunate about Nya. But I can say at least they tried (kind of). Except for the 1st season Nya got always a good treatment in the show and at least a few times she did have the main or at least 2nd most important role - or at least many interesting side quests. You could consider some vehicles to be hers as she designed or helped to keep them running (kind of). But yeah except for some smallish builds the Samurai X is the only big toy she ever got for herself. I assume - like the 2nd Lego movie - (real) Feminism works great in story and makes great sets, but it doesnt sell as Lego would have liked. I still respect that they tried. Her Ninjago-movie set was arguably the worst vehicle ever so I dont count it. Before Ninjago ends I would like to get at least a dragon, a jet some kind of boat or submarine would be fitting. Another question though is about the colour. Would the sets be grey with dark azure accents? I would prefer mostly dark azur with some accents of a different colour (black, dark red). Anyway to the official sets: Of course as always as good as possible with the budget and much better than any other theme could be. Only complaint also here: Nya doesnt even have a repainted hairband. Would be about time now.. I would have also been super happy with a new mold for a straw-hat-hair combo for her. -

Unfortunate about the identical leg prints for the golden Ninja's... Its rare the limitations of Ninjago become visible this way. I would have rather liked them to take it slower - but yeah so many legacy sets, remade characters, new characters and then also the new season, from the same wave-budget. Still - it makes the suits less wothy to collect. I found the idea of the individual head molds pretty interesting. -
this and special prints were my main reason for getting CMF's. I rarely kept the figures as they were. But since a few series we get almost no interesting recolours and not even rare versions but super common ones. Like last time this 80's musician guy with Luke's hairpiece: they could have done this in many colours. I dont understand this; 10 years ago we had like 15 hairpieces - now more like 300. But some hairpieces and other cool molds just disappear or take really long to get 1-2 recolours. About prints: no dual molded arms this time and almost no arm printing. Not complaining; I'll save money
-
there's no real good combination. I think the cyborg arms look good on pictures - but in person the top brown part doesnt fit with the lighter brown prints and the light grey/silver doesnt match either. Though not accurate at all, tan arms with printing (Jurassic Park bricktober) look quite good. I put printed dark grey arms from apocalypse Abraham Lincoln. Looks pretty good but it lacks details on shoulders. I am thinking of putting some self-made brown stickers at the shoulder part. Stickers on figures only work on flat surfases (like side of the legs) - lets see how it turns out. Best choice would of course be costume arms from 3rd party. Might as well go there anyway for better helmets..
-
you have to consider that with all the different areas, they cannot do unlimited prints and molds. For S14 we will have likely a few new villains with new prints and molds + Ninjas with all new prints and presumably newly printed faces as well as new molds for each hairpiece. Then quite a few reprints for the legacy wave and the battle packs. So they cannot do unlimited figures. I would have prefered anyway for them to focus, for example, on the haunted season, so that we might get another Morro, Ronin and so on. Unfortunately it was like this since the actual 1st legacy wave (with Sensei Yang as master). We didnt get proper Nindroids and stone warriors - most of all a proper Kozu and Kryptor.

Pretty grey yeah. But still, there were other colour combinations; like from the Clone vehicles - if we'd get the same Clone vehicles every 1,5 years it would be a Snowspeeder situation. Again I'm not complaining - or OK I am complaining about people saying now the wave is bland. I feel like they do the best thing possible with what they can do within the frame. I think simply the sequels failed to deliver both compeling story and sets connected to them. Time shall prove me wrong but will we get a bunch of remakes from the Snoke throne room, Maz Kanatas caste? Or remakes of the updated OT vehicles? I rather believe we'd get another OT AT-AT or -ST, instead of a sequel remake. I dont wanna start bashing the sequels now but to point out that Lego didnt get lot of reserves in the last years since the movies didnt have much of a (strong) identity. -

Since the takeover we have only gotten OT rehashes and uninspiring sequel sets - in always the same colour schemes and style. Say what you want but the prequels had lots of interesting and at least slightly more colourful designs. Since years we pretty much only get spider droid and Jedi Starfighters from Anakin Obi-Walker. Not saying its TLG's fault - they are bound by the movies and some of the sets were indeed great (Ressistance Bomber, FO ST). But yeah since TCW I dont feel like we got much colour or difference in sets. And no, putting lots of (dark) tan on grey sets doesnt help. So why complain now? - this is at least this wave is a fresh chance in redesigns. And I think the last Tie was horrible, colour scheme, studs, weird proportions which used lots of studs but didnt fit the actual style at all. Come to think of it - other than Kylos first shuttle I didnt get any proper set from the sequels... -
Glad to see you are on board! And for the question asked by a member: There are reading programs one can use for intelligent text recognition- this would recognize the relevant text instead of the irrelevant stuff, like the members profile details. I never had such a program but while having had big issues with eyes myself I used laptop of a friend and there he used it for news pages. Now the oraly read text can again be transformed into another way of communication. As for writing - one can learn in many ways; just we are used to a particular one, doesnt mean there aint many others. All this sounds complicated but most things about "normal" communication are super complex already - as a person with eye disability is maybe used to a different way - other people are used to theirs. Unfortunately many things are designed in a way that doesnt work with non-traditional ways of communication or interaction. So in this context; I'm glad Lego puts more effort into showing what is possible - like the person in a wheelchair performing sport in another City set.

Ironically we did have kind of a Legacy wave with the season with Sensei Yang as villain. So many sets have been remade to this point. Some they could still do: - Proper Samurai X remake - Fire Temple - Zane Ninja-jet thingy from S3. The latter one could be the dessert of all the jet remakes. Im just sorry we dont get much in terms of Nya legacy suits or builds. She really deserves a proper dragon and a jet of her own. In the show she always has quite a big role and the vehicles arent even advertised. I think in the last seasons they get broken after like 1-2 uses. I wonder if this is intentional I think except for the Bounty, the most advertised set was the Oni Titan. It appeared really often and was presented as immensely powerful. Anyway for Nya they should still do her old civilian outfit again

I'm sorry for his family.. I know the Ninjago VA from some interviews.... they are all charming fellows in each of their individual ways. I will miss Coles voice in future seasons. Thank you for the fantastic work to make the ninja - with not just the biggest stomach but also the biggest heart - come alive

I was never so happy to be wrong. Arm printing. On a SW figure that NEEDS and deserves it. In a cheap set. This is like an excuse for everything else. And it works It's also pretty good the helmet colour and armor fits. I would have prefered darker metal colour - but its very fine and probably more accurate this way. I do feel the dark tone in the show would only be matched with black jump suit and dark metal grey colours. The light silver and dark brown also have a really nice contrast to each other; finished with the dark red details. Now I gotta think about getting a helmet since TLG doesnt care - but seriously; this is great; very nice set and arm printing how it should be used. Im really glad this is not from some exclusive or super expensive set as well. -

I dislike Marvel and Lego Marvel in almost anyway only the guardians sets were quite nice ..but that Miles Morales set is a must have. Simply these dual molded legs cost like 2,50. Then the other parts, the new hood etc... -

are these errors getting more over the last years? In my surge of purchasing way too much - I had just one broken piece every. From the few sets I got in the last 2 years I had in at least 1/3 sets some printing issues. And Im not talking about bad skin tone printing; this we always had. I mean like spots in the face or worse -

so I dont know if it has been edited but one of the images from the Mando '21 set which I found on youtube does look like the printing and arms are in the standard silver, while the helmet is at least almost the same in dark metal grey. Oh that would be so not matching. I really dont understand some design choices.. I mean they did detailed molds for random weird figures but possibly reusing wrong barely printed helmet mold after over a year? It doesnt make any sense to push costumers to buy from costumizers How hard can it be? helmet and armor same colour; some print on the sides, on top and over the visor - maybe some shading underneath the visor as well. And in a year they can sell us a better mold instead in a 100+ set or so. Can someone of TLG explain this? A random wookie gets arm printing and a new mold (SW Rebels) but sought after figures get barely any treatment. And yes I know Marvel is worse of - Thanos there wears a Pyjama instead of complex armor. But still; they are doing like 10 new molds for Ninjago each year. And I assume this SW wave wont have much chance for new molds. Ok I stop ranting sorry. -

- with Marvel there are weird occasions where you get a Drax with super well done arm, torso and leg printing - then you get pyjama Thanos etc... helmet is also what Im interested in. Even though I'd prefer dark metal grey - silver would be more accurate and I think it does look lighter. No way to tell for sure though; even with clear pictures a colour can look different just due to lightning.. Torso and leg look like black and armor prints + helmet + arms in either of the two metal colours. Which I think is how they should have done it. The questions are: will the helmet be updated? (please please, otherwise I gotta order from 3rd party which I avoided now for ever...) and: Jetpack yes no? If so - different cape? Unfortunately I cannt make out anything from the pictures. _______________________________________________________________-____________________________________________ about the complaints: from the OT we just now get certain obscure characters rarely as a side figure, like Dondanna or Bail Organa. We just got 1(!!) Mon Mothma so far (which was years ago with competely not special parts. She was literally one of just 3 women in the OT who had lines...). From Rebels, TCW or the smaller movies, there's characters we never got and likely will never get: Saw Guerrera, the Solo villain, the awesome feminist droid, Jyn Ersos father, ... Guys and gals: it's a toy company. I think characters like Dondanna are really just a treat for a minority of fans, due to the high popularity of the OT sets. And the fact that they seem to sell anyway. I mean we didn't even got an aunt Beru yet. For Rebels there's soooo many characters and updates we NEVER got. Not even a season 2 update for the protagonist. So I'm just happy we did get Thrawn and blind Kanan and that I dont have to somehow MOC them myself. Cobb whatever will likely not be such a striking character. If the Mandalorian really gets cult status, maybe we do get a Kulil at some point. -

The company has huge influence on what a partner can produce and how they can do it. Disney is rumored to be very strict in that sense. There is occasions where Lego designers already wanted to do stuff that was leaked or released in pictures, trailer etc - but they were not allowed to. It doesnt make sense. But it is how it is. Sometimes of course they dont know or care so much about the products they do and just rely on concept art they get or not get and that is right or not. Something I'm interested in is if they change the helmet - like with additional colur or printing. Or could it be a new mold even? Can anyone make it out from the better pictures? This I personally find sad - because it forces AFOL's to go to 3rd party sellers. I actually like the dark metal grey - but I think the mold is wrong and the very least the can do is to print a bit more on the old mold. It's like leaving out the beard from an Obi Wan figure. -

Didnt you see the latest trailer? It indicates more scenes from Tattoine where Mando attends a ralley because the liberal daugher of Jabba wants to make a ban of more than 5 rifles per household. As a German native speaker I can state that not everything has been translated from promobricks: they also write what can be translated as the set name: "The Mandalorian gun ralley on Tattoine". Presumably "the child" will have a different print with some ammunition belts and safety googles as the Episode (I believe chapter VI) will be dealing with Mando teaching baby Joda how to shoot. There will also be Rebel pilot helmets with the print: "make Mos Eisley great aegaiiin". Also the tusken raider will probably the blaster-lobbyist Tusky Mac Bantha who fights for the rights of decent people to own their own Death Star. -

ok its a fake - the designer probably added some lines in the old print digitally. In one picture, where that would have been harder its the exact same print of the old fig, just with the differing colours. ..and so the wait goes on -
75292 The Razor Crest – MODs and improvements
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MAG85's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great to see all those creative mods. This really brings the best out of the AFOL community. Im quite fine with my own Crest - The only thing I didnt see and cannt do myself so far, are propper mods for bigger engines - I have the EP IV escape pod with the bigger dome pieces but I would need 6 of them not four. Really sad I think the engines are just a few ticks too small. I am considering to build bigger ones with small pieces - like the Apollo V rocket.- 110 replies
