LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

there's some great MOC's out there which acomplish playability, realistic size and good looks. But I wouldnt be dissapointed if the ship is either way too thick in its proportions or if it has just 2 small interior rooms. Interior would be much smaller than in the ISD's anyway. Some builds are always in disadvantage due to proportions. Compare the Ghost (like 5 disconnected seats) and the Millenium Falcon (like an apartement). -

The thing is that they were always departing a bit from that japanese-esque style but kept it somehow still. First of all many desings are inspired by other eastern asian or even oriental settings. season 4 villains come to mind. Sky pirates and season 3 were quite different with their designs and yet most figs hat still eastern asian-esque stuff on them (including the Bigfig character Dogshank, with a Samurai helmet-mask and even the random pirates had sort-of kimonos). Prime Empire used some kind of "future-style" of the desings - most notably the Unagami and Akito (or whatever the trainer guys name was) figures had clear nods towards Japan, China and Korea. Main villain and the female side character from last season also took some inspiration (Kimono, straw hat and the guards had Samurai helmets). And our ninjas kind-of had still eastern asian robes under their armor (which I think didnt fit on most of their suits). season 15 would be the greatest deviation, as far as I can see. Snakes, oversized car and dragons are the only thing stil linked to Ninjago. But if the theme continues, we will keep getting more traditional designs again. Even if they announce the end of the theme; I wouldn't trust Lego to voluntarily end one of their more stable ships without big reason. Edit: dragons and mechs of the first seasons were not very eastern asian in design. This came later - I would argue the only Gundam-like Mechs we ever got where the 2 literations from Zane and the Titan mech from Lloyd - 2 out of 3 are from fairly new seasons. -

That would be great. But would that work with the current market? Lego has to sell to stores worldwide. Due to bad experience they gave up on original themes, after trying many times (Examples from above). Any genre is being reincorporated in the big 7 themes or Ideas. The same happened with City, Creator and Friends now - the sets are increasingly adventurous. If a certain setting were to sell strong - as a businessman or woman I would make it a spinoff of one of the big themes. Because I have to sell that stuff to stores which (worst case scenario) are still traumatizeed by unsold Ultra Agents or Galaxy squad boxes lying around.* And if the sub-theme fails, I can still reintegrate it in the old show. Like Family Guy did with the Cleveland show. Didnt work. But American Dad became its own show. *Seriously! In any Country, when Im in a rural area I see that stuff in old toy stores. You could make a fortune in buying and reselling those sets ;) thx for the Information! So I count: new big blade piece, scuba helmet + neck attachment and maybe new visor. Maybe also waist piece. At least 2 new pieces for villain head pieces, Nyas hairband-hairpiece, lower jaw of Nyas dragon -> about 9 new pieces. Plus I think Kais dragon uses new molds entirely. Maybe they are also the one from Lloyds dragon though. Naja Snakes were always a big part of Ninjagos lore. I always disliked them as figures (no matter which season) but some could argue they stay more true to themselves like this. About the sets: Ninjago doesn't serve some AFOL plan. No matter what genre they do: there will mostly be some bike, a mech, dragon and a speeder-car. Some base/temple-thingy and whatever big vehicle. Look at Star Wars - people gotta be happy about some changes in sets (recent X-Wing, Sandspeeder, etc.) but mostly sets are the same. When Ninjago redoes a Bounty, they really redo it. -

Some people keep saying this BUT: Ninjago only did gangs/biker, apocalypse, video games, european-medevil, island and soon Atlantis for one wave each. How can one wave take another theme's chance away? Star Wars, Creator and Super Heroes sell sci-fi at the same time, all the time next to each other. You could try seeing it from an optimistic point of view: they can test the waters like this. If kids really like the Atlantis wave, Lego may incooperate this somehow. The sad truth is that none of the original themes other than Ninjago have survived more then a few waves.* Us wanting this won't change the numbers. The market is very "blockbuster"-oriented and I think we can be glad that we still have Ninjago - and through Ninjago other settings, like now basically Atlantis. *Im not just talking about Nexo and Hidden Side . Like 6 years ago they did original Pirates again and the theme failed. Before that Galaxy squad and Cowboys (The Lone Ranger) came and failed. More examples? So why should Atlantis or the Island work on its own? What seems to work are: blockbuster-oriented themes, Creator, City, Friends, Technic and Ninjago. We can only hope to get certain genres that way or through something like IDEAS. -

I havent been a fan of the suits since Legacy. I think those were cool but so overused... I think mostly the suits are good, for what they tried to be but it wasnt so much for me. The standout to me are mostly the Nya suits. For example, the current Zane suit feels like the 5. version of its kind. Very messy. Nyas suits mostly have something distinctive to it, that beats the former designs. That being said, this ain't so much critizism than my preferences. I can imagine a scenario where the situation in s15 completely escalates which leads to everything being flooded and chaotic. We could get pirat-like suits for Jay, Ronin and Skylor (yes In my headcanon Jay becomes a pirate captain for a while, with Ronin, Skylor and the s6 crew). I also tend to look back at seasons 5+6. Suits were black with a standard design and patterns from the main colour. They could do the same but with a different base colour - like tan or dark tan. This would more resemble actual clothing as it was worn in Japans history. -

edit: To me it looks like the ninja have a grey belt-piece. Doesnt look like the Batman-piece. Maybe its just printing though; I cannt say. -

Looking at the pictures I would say it's a shoulder attachment I have not seen before and a helmet + visor piece. If they are molded together or if they are seperat pieces - I cannt say. I cannt even recognize the helmet piece. Im not judging but I must say, I would have expected more stylized scuba gear. -

these are all simply plot elements. They use and write/rewrite in whatever manner they may serve the story best. And so far they do pretty good job I think. ________________________________________________________________________________ Anyway, I wanted to make a summery from what we know so far about the summer sets. Lloyd's mech: doesn't seem symetric, so maybe there is a transformation function? Minifigures: Lloyd + Snake henchman. 200 pieces, 20$ Jay's car: maybe turning wheels/rotors; Minifigures: Jay, probably Cole (orange arms) and 2 snake henchmen. Water dragon: Side build, Submarine with white markings and pretty unique water dragon. Colour scheme could be dark blue-dark azure-white (or light grey). Markings/printing looks a bit like boxart ninja. Minifigures: 2 snake henchmen, 1 unique Atlantis-like villain and probably Zane in the submarine. I assume another ninja is likely to come with the set as well. (~800 pieces, 70$?) Temple: Probably Wohira, main temple build and some side structures. I cannot figure out what they are there for but the build on the right side has a certain debth (other than this a flick missile). Minifigures: newly printed manta ray, 2 snake henchmen, 1 "main villain" figure with Atlantis style molds and another unknown figure with golden spear. Side character? Maya? Nya? Pixal? I would assume its a new character. With the red submarine we probably get Kai and then there's a powered-up figure. Doesnt make much sense to not assume that it would be Nya. If colours are correct she would come with dark blue mask and hairband piece + special face printing. (~1000 pieces`) Bounty-Submarine: White submarine, flick missile function, 2 smaller submarines (Lloyd and probably Cole?). Other than this I assume we get all ninja while the one next to Kai could be Nya in the uniform the other figures have as well. (and the same villain figures as in the temple set). (1150 pieces?) Uniforms: Seem to have a tank, helmet and googles (no idea how many pieces, maybe 1 piece). Interestingly enough, some ninja in concept art dont use the stand-in helmets but their Legacy-hood pieces. Special pieces: new jaw piece for water dragon, maybe new amulet-piece, new hoods/helmets, ninja seem to all use the dinosaur-hunter guns and other than this I can only make out the new molds for the villains. And probably Nyas new mask/hairband piece. So let's speculate (from the information so far) around 7 new pieces (in the end probably more pieces. -

Yes. I think the female characters they do have are very strong. Nya had really good storylines since she became Samurai X. But overall the ratio is pretty bad. And I know people will argue with the market, the market BUT: you won't pull any girls and women in if you have the "all boys club" lable already. -

I get what you mean and I am there halfway. The writing in all former seasons was 95% really superb - which has changed. But its still good. and we get nice designs and pieces because of this. Comparing to all Nexo Knights and Hidden Side waves - I was maybe interested in 5 prints each, 3 new molds and some reused which became available through this theme. I am looking at my Legacy Destinies bounty or the upcomming sets and Im happy the content can continue. Of course it hurts, seeing how amazing the animation became around Skybound. And when watching "Hunted", I relt like I was watching a proper movie (Oni Titan animation...). Also the endings and character conclusions of every new season were weak. But it still has a lot of soul. It feels like the later seasons of Futurama: they cut the writing team in half and the developing time as well. The show was never as good anymore but it wasn't bad either. -

Depending on the numbers (how well Ninjago still sells) the best choices are to continue as long as possible (like now) or a soft reboot - or even both at the same time. They could retire some ninja or put them in different position. Like to give Lloyd a spin-off show that plays out in more medevil settings and create a theme around this while Jay and Nya become masters for a new team of young ninjas. Or they can just make Skylor and character X a new ninja. As overarching plot they could develope Kai into a villain, incooperate the royal family thingy somehow.... infinite possibilities. So far we had just one time travel episode and one season dedicated to this. A lot of room still to explore. ..the point being that I would rather develope something out of Ninjago then something completely new. So far none of the new themes have survived longer than 3 years. Edit: Seeing that Jay's car has another ninja - I dont think its likely we really just get Zane in the water dragon set. Does anyone still know set prices and piece counts? -

As it's Ninjago for sure it will be something mythical Like the (never before mentioned) master of the sea is doing this because of that and so on. As I always say - Ninjago has unlimited potential. And they havent even taken new ninjas in. Now I do wonder if they are going to recast Cole's VA. -

So instead of sleeping I did a little digging: The Nya hairpiece-hairband combo looks almost perfecly fittinryg for the weird theme Logo from the catalogue. Almost every strain of hair fits; it's slightly wilder - just like the Lloyd box art for the island season. Interestingly the Lloyd uses his colours - a bit darker shading and stylized, but clearly tan for hair and standard green for bandana. If the lightning doesnt play a huge trick on us, it would mean Nya switches - at least for this - to dark blue and what seams to be poision blue, lighta aqua or another colour for her hair and face. This would also add up with the dragon - where I think we can also make out 2 spots on each side of the eyes. I hope this colour change is purely for this season - yes it looks cool and all, but Nya had enough colour switching. standard red, dark red, dark green, black, dark azure, gun metal grey... But who knows how everything will turn out. At least to me for now it seems likely Nya turns somehow into this dragon as Ninjago dragons nowdays tend to be more expressional in their colour, instead of simply being an echo for the ryder's primary and secondary colours. For now I assume: - in the Sub-bounty we get all ninjas though I cannt make out which would be Nya and why some of them have stand in mask pieces and some use the old mask pieces. Plus one snake henchman and the main creature thingy. (at least 8 figures + animal) - Temple set: Again the main creature thingy, 2 snake henchmen, Kai, probably super-power-Nya and a (maybe) chained figure with a golden spear. Probably side character as we almost always get one. - Water dragon: so far only one a white sub is visible - likely only Zane. 2 henchmen and one exclusive sea creature character. The rest of the sets speak for themselves. Sadly it looks like it wont be easy to get most desirable figures cheap. In any case I am excited and designs, as every year look awesome. -

Didnt the Slave I leak? I saw picture that looked at least authentic (art, not as blurry as all the alien videos) and I thought it maybe is slightly different from the Cloud City version. But I guess it was fake? From the small glimpse I can say it was at least very very similar. -

Props to the guy who gave descriptions of the sets. It was true after all. Can anyone figure out who is who? In the water-dragon set, I dont make anyone outside the submarine out. I really hope we get Nya in that set; I always love her figures but I dont want to buy the most expensive sets.... The water dragon looks amazing. Like a mix of the modern Ninjago dragons and the Elves dragons. I hope I can just get this set and be done with it. Ninjago you make me break my promise to my partner every year to not buy too much Lego..... Interesting: I think main villains come in Bounty and temple set. Another "different" villain comes in the dragon set. And theres a chained person with a golden spear. Hints towars Nya a bit (the normal snakes dont have golden weapons). But also there's this powered up figure - could also be Nya. Overall except for the cheapest 2 sets I would like to get any of these. aaaaaaaaaah why Ninjago does your sets have to be soo good... -

Originally the wookies would have rescued Kanan in the s1 finale. Fortunately they changed things. So the set ain't Legos fault. They get some material and 1,5 years later it may not even appear. But they can take the arm printing of 3 wookies and give it to Sabine and another figure instead. -

Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Don't forget armprinting for random Wookie's from a random SW Rebels set which was based after concept art and didnt even appear in the actual scene (yes it appeared anyway but for 2 seconds and not in the finale). The Sabine Wren from the same wave was looking HORRIBLE. Like she had 5% exposed arms but Lego gave her bare arms instead of giving her the arm printing-treatment. The S2 version didn't even get a helmet. I won't complain though. You can buy printed arms and other things in large quantities from several 3rd party sellers. Or make it yourself. I think Lego is losing money here (even with some of the arguments above; they could sell printed arms to us directly) but I dont know their inner structure and decision making process. ...and the best: With Mando we got a figure that really needed arm printing, in a set below 300 bucks for the first time ever. Again, who knows what factors in the decisions. Remember Obi Wan still uses the oldest hairpice while there are like 5 better pieces, already produced in the right colour Edit: The moral of the story is; don't expect anything. -
I wish Lego really all the success with this - I'm not the selected consumer for this stuff anyway. But I already see many parents going in between shelves and thinking: I can buy several similar toys for 2-10 bucks, electronic games for their consoles which will distract the kids for weeks or at least some small set/CMF/Ninjago spinner thingy. I loved the Lego movie 2's more feminine theme, I loved the shift in sets, I loved the Elves theme and I think many techniques and parts came from this theme. But Elves was failing in its last years, the "girls" Super heroes theme never worked, The Lego Movie 2 sets just underperformed massively and did not open new demografic. I'm happy for every person that will start to like Lego because it gets more diverse and modern - and I dont know; maybe the music stuff here will work out; Im not a prophet. ...but I just don't see it happening at this price. Any superficial interaction via scanning tiles or whatever is worth 20 $. No matter how nice the box is. So please Lego, be more realistic. Maybe many people would be open to something like "CMF+" sets. But not for 5 times the original price for just one figure. For 3 of them you could buy complete sets of CMF's. If they would give you the option for a small but well built scenery at least... But it's just a plastic box and printed tiles...

Sorry if it was mentioned; but could you describe the water dragon again? As far as I thought it would have been Nyas dragon for 60-70 bucks - they way you describe it, it doesnt sound too exciting.. -
For sure its a more unique take on CMF'like figurs. But it's just too much with 20$. I would really like Lego to succeed with their "new" products aka Mario and so on. But does it have to be so expensive? 10$ would be in range of similar sets (like Ninjago spinners). I see another failure like dimensions where we get them at one point for 70% off (I never purchased dimensions until they showed up in stores with 40 to 90 (!!) % sale).

WHAT?! How amazing, I never even noticed. There was a great Video on Lego's channel once, basically making fun of all the changes as well as dissapearing powers. I think one of the biggest strenghs is the irony the show brings. BTW: was just watching this interview with Kirby Morrow again.. RIP. ~7:00 min Edit: ~ 10:40; "I love when Kirby has a date and and a girl comes to my house and asks "Why is there a case full of toys?"" ..I guess some of us have been there -

I think at some point they just started putting a lot of lore in it and from time to time they revisit. I think Shintaro was never mentioned before the last season, as well as the monarchy. But they always wrote stuff cleverly. So I feel like in 3 seasons, they answer some stuff but reopen many possibilities again. It's like with any season the potential for stories grows bigger. -

LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I doubt. Of course everything is possible - and I actually hope they go with Legacy all the way up to current seasons. Every season had stuff that we didnt get yet. I dont know how decisions are made but I would assume they simply use Legacy to get: 1. some diversity in the sets, 2. fill market requirements: you get good asian architecture ships (monastery, Bounty), stuff with easter eggs, red, blue and black cars, bikes and jets, dragons, mechs aaaand the whatever spinners, battle 10$ "mommy and daddy I want the big set but ok at least I get the smallest"-sets. It's interesting, because overall the budget doesnt seem to have been increased. Like, we get less and less sets for the current seasons while about half the budget runs into Legacy sets. So to make an argument: I think they will avoid "obscure" things, like the partly transparent elemental dragons and focus on the same style that we already got. I think the concept is just one of those things they tried and burried. I would also not assume the mobile Ninja-base-van-thingy from s4 is something we'll see again. - The only dragon I could see them redoing is the titanium one from Zane/s4. The design was quite unique and they could simply scrap the transparent pieces (ifff my theory is correct). - Morro's dragon, they could simply just remake as a "ghost dragon". - I would assume next year we get Zanes jet from s3 and maybe a proper Jay or Cole dragon. - Other than this, I don't know how many vehicles have not been already redone. Proper Samurai X mech - only if they have confidence in Nya sets. - given some time they could re-do the posession bounty. Overall a shame; if I recount, I think kid Lloyd and Legacy Nya are about the only non-typical figures we have gotten with Legacy. Talking about super-obscure wishlist-sets: - I would really like a big Missfortunes keep - the flying one but of course also the old ship. Including the crew without their updated armor - as we actually never saw them, because there was no budget for animated versions without orange arms, etc. - It's not that long ago but I never thought the temple of airjitzu was that clean of a set. Would love to see a new take on this. - an $130 Oni Titan would be amazing. Given the big role it had, getting one with 3 times as many pieces would just be epic. - talking about elemental dragons: I would really like to see them do one now. Like put as many transparent pieces on and in it, plus a light brick. From the outside a an almost completely transparent dragon
