LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I tried looking for the original video about the leaks but I think the channel of this mandy products persona is gone. As far as I understood there were some people just taking the info and making their own videos but the details of descriptions were different from the original leaks video. It's crazy - here in Germany SW sets used to be available for around 2 years, some much longer. Some bigger and smaller sets last year were gone before the summer wave released. Some didnt even appear. And I am talking about the big toy stores. Lego shelves have become super big for some years and within 2-3 years they have become smaller then they were ever since I can remember. I think the market might just be jaded with Lego which is a very bad sign for the future of our favourite hobby. -

my bad. Then the pictures I saw were already counting the island episodes. Well, 4 episodes to be released; aka 40 minutes and 2 "proper" episodes. The episodes release always as two-pack anyway. ...and still no sets.... -

counting the other 4 from the Island we basically have 16 episodes already but no sets ...and from descriptions (which I didnt read) I assume 8 episodes left. Would be a total count of 24 episodes. -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Noone here knows the inner works of TLG. Maybe its just different departements and the Marvel one doesnt have any influence Maybe all the budget is already eaten by the licence itself. Maybe the higher ups dont want more budget because they think the sets sell anyway because kids don't care as long as its the right licence. There's a new face print (not too accurate I might add) and a reprinted hairpiece. That's by far not what it could be but its way better then anything we have gotten in the last years. Finally - for the first time - Thor has an updated haircolour. This wave will for sure have way more new prints and much more new molds then waves of before. Also we get sets of a movie that was released in the past - other then Star Wars this usually never happens. But of course, people here will still expect a new mold for so many characters and leg and arm printing. Im not saying it cannt or shouldnt be done. I dont understand why Lego doesnt tap more into the minifigure market. Im just saying we don't know why it is how it is. Im sure for sure that the designers try always their best to please most people. But in the end it's for kids more then for greedy, over precise adults. *I might add that Im among those overly precise adults. But Im not blind to the reality of the market, that these are kid toys. -

how cool would it be if we could just purchase all figures directly and reliably from Lego For bricklink Im afraid Im too stupid to understand how to purchase. So far I only ever talked directly with people for selling/purchasing Im also quite interested (as I probably stated way too often in this sub). It's the first minifigscale submarine we have ever gottan, which holds more then the typical 1-2 figures. I don't think they can do too much with the interior. Something similar to the land bounty would already be pretty cool. And at least the prelim to me looks quite messy, unlike the smooth version in the show. If its not too messy I really wanna get it. -

I think there was a video a while ago where some person described the details. I think the leaker is called "mandy products" but either he lost his channel or he had to delete it. Theres a similar channel but I belive its a fake from a troll because the leak video is not to be found. -
Yes. And I take my critical comment mostly back: I expected these sets also to be super expensive. But instead they have pretty good prices, compared to licenced stuff! In this context I dont understand the overpriced 20 bucks sets..

thx for the hint. I do like this for years now; saves me a lot of money. I never even considered getting any Monkey Kid set, but I got the best figures all via B&P. But you never know - Kai+Jay's hairpieces are available; Coles hairpiece aint. Same with many torso and leg pieces. And as a fanatic Nya collector since season 5 I have a hard time not getting at least the special versions of her -
Im really curious about the sucess of these. I just think its way too weird and without any existing connection to tap into the market so expensive. People know Disney princesses or Marvel or whatever. But will they buy something even more expensive that may be a cool design but that has no backstory, no connection in existing culture? Designs are really cool! But at least the former Lego original stuff (ninjago, TLM, TLBM etc.) was cheaper than the norm. This is waaay more expensive.

How cool.. So with the dragon I might already get what I want. Which is the cool new Nya figure Then, if the Bounty is really good I consider making space for it -

I've been saying it for years. Im not a fan of any knock off brands but some of them have proper joint pieces. Lego needs to up their game: their joints dont work with bigger sets; it becomes too much weight. They need new pieces and while they do this, they can also make them look better. Like different colours more than anything. Not just grey and grey. _____________________________________________________________ About the temple set: I hope somehow to get around the temple set. As great as it looks; I dont have any excuse for any more temple sets and mostly I want that Nya figure -

Im sure the writeres - while may not being as talented as the Hagemen brothers - would and could do a lot. But the higher ups don't let them. Proof to me are some of the videos posted some pages back; like plans they had for prime empire; the inclusion of Jays mother. Prime empire, like s11 were seasons with a lot of potential - but many points in the story felt like - they had no point! The super fast endings or the cause of the overall plot. But episodes and budget were cut and apparently writers were told not to include stuff that relates too much to former seasons. MoM was supposed to include a scene in the end where a statue of Cole was constructed. How sweet would that have been, not that Kirby Morrow has passed? It would have been a scene but there was no budget for animation; as was stated in a video some pages back. It all reminds me on Futurama - when they brought the series back at some point; they cut the writing staff in half and they cut the time for production. So jokes were more flat, episodes not as well written, etc. Cynical cooperation people win the day, as always. Im sure the staff wants to work (for less episodes/less seasons they will also get less money) and they also seem quite passionate about their work. Look at Tommy Anderson and the voice actor of Zane - they all seem very passionate about their work. -

Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
There's also positive things - like someone mentioned the side characters which show us a 3rd person perspective on the ninja. A bit world building etc. And yes, MoM was really good. I feel like all of this is just the result of some higher ups not wanting to put more ressources anymore into this then necessary. They see Ninjago as a toy commercial instead of the art that it was and should be. I still think it is art - the trainer character, the car racer character from Prime empire or the backstory of Wu in s11 - there are some really good moments still. But what you mentioned about Jay is the best representation of the problem: they put in some dramatic action scene that has no effect on the story overall. I thought if Jay would have been hurt in a way and it would have eliminated the character for a while, or raised the stakes by having him need medical treatment and put Nya into a position where she can be bribed by Kalmar-villain guy character or anything. But the same with Lloyd in the current episode. Almost something happen but then again basically anyone was fine. I still enjoy seeing these lovely ninjas or even new characters. But it has been quite shallow since season 10 I think with an exception of season 13, which was almost completely pretty awesome. But Im not complaining. It's weird something like the 9th season ever came out. It's a bit like the Clone Wars from Star Wars. I was never a big fan but I can grant that it had sometimes genious writing, (good) dark stories and great animation. But it was never profitable in that way. It was just some people putting money into art. And you see with Elves or the hidden side that Lego is not willing to produce a proper TV show anymore. -
Theme Review: Orient Expedition
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
To me it was the best theme of the time. And a theme that could still hold up to todays standards. If I were to have the asian ship, it would be easy to modify with some more pieces to fit todays standard. I loved the creatures, the consistency between areas (asian, oriental, himalaya). As a kid I also loved the card game! I never understood why Lego doesnt do this again for the likes of ninjago, SW or Harry Potter. The inclusion of cards is really cheap but can provide a lot of playability and makes a Lego set also a board game. I would love for Lego to bring this to live again. Back in the old days I was pretty poor - I got some of the sets used for little to no money. I remember snatching the himalaya/mountain set. I had soooooo much fun with it... -

I'll just drop these two pictures of MOC's of the ship here: - Barely one figure fits in the cockpit - for sure more but still not a lot of space in the main compartement - .. main compartement is also pretty gappy. - fin of the 3rd wing is also built with plates. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0515/6700/1751/products/badbatchimage_1024x1024@2x.png?v=1608076707 https://cdn.rebrickable.com/media/thumbs/mocs/moc-49569.jpg/1000x800.jpg?1617804938.185474 I'm not trying to **** on cool MOC's here. Im just saying people here seem to wish the rules of our world away. Decent space for interior are always issues with these kind of ships. The popular Tydirium was the only one with decent interior but also here it was very hard to access and use properly. Now the new designs are all even more simplyfied. Compared to the posted MOCs, the official one (and yeah, we dont even have clear pictures yet, maybe it looks worse, maybe better) has some aspects that look better and some that look worse. Which was to be expected. And as others pointed out, the speeders are a thingy for kids. I remember getting a 100 bucks set once just because it included the first Mace Windu and a cool speeder (yeah, I was a small kid). I get if people dont like a set aestethically and comment on it. Or about the crazy prices and other things. But it doesnt reflect well on an adult (!) community if a minority demands everything the way they want without considering that it's mainly not designed and produced for them. This community can be really fun but it can also be really poisonous. Economy is getting worse, children rather switch to digital games - let's hope for good Lego designs and enjoy while it lasts. -

dont forgett the basically repeat of the 501 speeder ;) I think noone would doubt this. But again, its a kids toy and I see my small one playing with this much more then the Krennic shuttle. Easier to handle, less stuff breaking off, less complex, extra thingis like the speeders to play with. SW builds go in the marvel direction it seems. Good for Lego, it for sure makes more sense then oversized shuttles, even if they do look better :/ -

Dont forget that Lego designers are adapting to a market. Im not talking price here; this looks like maximum 70-80 bucks to me and 100 bucks would be a joke. About design: it seems they have to put in some speeders and size the shuttle itself down. Im sure designers would love to make bigger and more accurate ships but the market is mostly kids. And I do think sets like the new X-Wing will be much more attractive for them then the 100$ version. -

Im not into SW sets anymore since the sequels. But overall looks interesting due to the colour scheme (sand blue/black). Yes, its a downgrate from former quality of ships but this seems to be the new way for SW sets. It's like the Imperial shuttle version. Some disadvantages but also some advantages. I think for example wings done with plates often look stupid ad a certain size. Except for the underside of the wings, these seem quite fine. And SW sets always suck from the underside. I guess there wont be much space inside. But it should fit 4 figures. -

LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
if they dont change anything (I doubt as final pictures of mech + car looked almost exactly the same as prelims) only Nya dragon + Sub Bounty's figures are not completely clear. In the bounty it looks like one figure is in the ship. Also it's not clear if all the ninja are indeed included and maybe one figure is a side character. But this I also doubt; probably its just all the ninja. So maybe side characters in the Bounty, and very likely one in the temple. If onle one of none comes, it wouldnt be the first time we barely got any side characters in actual sets. I mean this time around the sea population looks like it only consists of snake soldiers. I guess there was no budget for animation. In past seasons they had always a lot of funky side characters. Think of Hunted or SoG. Sooo many cool designs which were never done as actual figures. I guess also the Legacy budget eats a lot of potential prints away. -

I also doubt there's even a bit of market for this kind of product. I like the falcon and any side character and the fact people here remember them. But ninjago swaps out and invents new things faster than I can say spinjitzu. With Harry Potter especially they are going for an older audience with their "artsy products". Ninjago is different in general but we could only ever expect something along these sets with something that stays consistant which would be: our main characters, main tropes (something with spinjitzu, weapons and artifacts), and the Bounty. Otherwise nothing is consistant enough. But when talking about the falcon: I was always wondering why they never did like a gigantic mech-version of it. For sure theres some concept art about this ________________________________________ OH I am so in love with what you wrote <3 I was working in film industries before and it's sad how people only see a kidy-pyjama-men show but actually there is feminist theory and marxist theory within that pyjama toy commercial...
