LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

But its a company. A company that makes money with their image. And a company which is marketing actors and actresses. When Silvester Stallone did Rambo II or when Tom Cruise did this one plane movie: the main actors and actresses had to act or become a bit what the product demanded - even outside. In a big franchise they are also paied for this public appearance. I'm not saying it's an ideal thing but it's how things are. They have a calculation and if keeping her means more money loss, they fire her. In the 90's Star Trek (which was kinda progressive for its time) they tolerated quite a few conservative performers. But I guess there was not twitter back then. And if someone would say kids and wifes should be beaten, it wasnt deemed that controversial. the situation is complex. Things are complex. And we live in capitalism; money decides. -

Business people will decide this and for them Carano's last apologies didnt hold up very long so it's unlikely they reconsider anytime soon. And yes, it's a blowback - Cara was a much more diverse casting choice than the usual barbie-doll-figure women. I kind of liked her character despite some obvious acting flaws. But I saw this comming; I was actually expecting her to be cut or die somehow in season 2. After all James Gunn was a pretty important director and his stupid jokes didn't have any real background. But the actress stepped over some lines here. I wish her good luck anyway. Let's just hope her future tweets dont go so far so that Lego sees themselves being forced to take her out of existing sets ...so the summer sets are the only chances to get proper updates (in colour scheme and hairpiece choice). -

Not to blame the designers; they would probably like to give us eveything: but dark Nya should have been either in the Overlord dragon set or with the golden Mech. I really like Legacy but its sad they couldnt do more reprints (Im looking at Nindroids without leg printing, shoulder armor and helmets). Wow, that looks really good! The higher modded (or moc?) building in the middle makes a big difference I think. -

I would always prefer to get those sets with normal sets (I never understood why expensive sets have more or less repetitive figures and small bags get get the super special prints). ...but still sad to see. Some of the best Ninjago figures came from those packs. Looking at you Sensei Jay and Kabuki Nya. I also really liked the obscure pirates from skybound. A proper Faith would be a welcome edition anytime now... At least I hope we get her through Legacy, as well as a casual Nya (from early seasons). Or dark island Nya. Or........... -

I really like the sets; not to mention we never got a proper catamaran vehicle (in minifigure scale). I also think the tan, brown and bluish green colour's look nice. I really dislike the grey bottom though; looks not fitting for this kind of vehicle. -

Wow - thx for all the effort! Im really envy of you being able to look at this in person but happy also to see myself at least via pictures. I would also probably try to combine the 2 museums into a big one. I tried making a building for a museum myself once, which should have featured at least a chunk of important weapons and molds from all the seasons (I gave up as it would have required like 4 floors ; ). In any case Im happy that this thread sees more action this year. I think after Star Wars, it has reached the most pages so far. -
I dont know, I cannt say how many people woldwide only buy CMF's because they can feel and pick the individual choices. I can say that many people here - myself included - would either refrain completely from purchasing any of these or only pick a very selected amount. As it is now; getting CMF's - sometimes even multiples is the best way (often also only way) to get certain prints and pieces. Would it be a drastic decrease in sales if this strategy doesnt work anymore? Maybe, maybe not. But for sure I see no good reason for them changing the strategy. In case of these sets: I will not pick up a single one cause my interest would be limited to maybe 2 of these. And chances are, that I could get 3 ice cream guys, too expensive for the trash but completely not usable to me. While another person would want this figures but gets a different one. - Naja; another case of Lego strenghening the 3rd market. - Just another argument for: Make individual CMF's available at Lego Shop, if this is really an issue. For a small price increase if needed. And if they really want to strenghten the local markets then they can promote kind of "minifigure exchange" stations. - Also any kind of "Boxing" would prevent the blind bags from being distributed as "cheap last minute buy" sets. They would simply become to blocky and big. - Also if any CMF's would become like this; there would be a huge outcry. Maybe we AFOL's are few and here even fewer. But this group is loud anyway.... With these kind of sets I feel like its one of multiple attempts of TLG to reach into some kind of new market (women, art, technology). They know they cannot expand forever on young boys and loyal fans, as space to put stuff is running out for us and as more and more kids will rather get video game/phone/tablet related stuff (and the middle class of the west is not in the best of situations while the new middle class of other countries does not necessarily consume Lego). I personally think TLG is just too far behind with technology, so they will shrink. Im curious if Super Mario was a failure as well. I would really like to actually know. Because I cannt imagine it worked (as much as I would hope) but I'd like to see actual data.
-
Can someone explain? So there will be 10$ sets, inderpendent of these? And these will be like a CMF but with what and how expensive? For a moment there I thought it will just be CMF for 10$ but no way to feel them for all of these...

Can you please post some pictures? My dream is seeing a set arrangement of multiple Ninjago modulars next to each other. I think Gardens would be the best of which multiple builds could look great next to each other. And Interiorspace can always be replaced easily. Unfortunate that, due to budget and space I will never own one of these sets. So I am dependent of all your pictures ;) As for the Island set: I think it just suffers from requirements and limitations. The old sets for around 50-100 bucks had these huge modified plates and many other big chunky pieces. I think sometimes using these ("big ugly rock pieces) and putting out new versions of these plates, they could acomplish much more aestetically as well as with play features. Here is one of these pieces in a castle theme - but there's many other examples; like for island themes. I still have some of these old pieces and they are fantastic for any landscape build. https://brickset.com/sets/10176-1/King-s-Castle -
Sets look much better and less messy then last time. And that mountain set is simply amazing. I also think the figures have some more diversity. That mountain set is really a draw, even if I didnt get a single set last time...

Jurassic World 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

so do we have any more info about if Godzilla will also come in a set? Maybe all the T-Rex could team up against her and then as its not enough they could also team up with all the other dinosaurs and in the end also humans to defeat her. Yes you are right. One time they were asking me to not talk about Stargate there for some reason. -

I know people will protest (caus Ninjago took our other theeeemes). BUT I see just so much potential. So far we just had multiple rope-style outfits; some more black based, most primary and secondary colour based. But they could also do outfits based on secondary colours, or white or tan base colour with accents of their main colours. ..then we have also the non-asian style outfits: so far we had apocalypse, video game and medevil-style outfits. Scuba gear can be explored and the space-theme people will kill us: they could also do space and other weird sci-fi stuff (actually they did in the show at least). -

Speaking of rumors: Did anyone hear if Godzilla will be in one of the summer wave sets, since she is a bit like a dinosaur? Mods: As far as I know it stand for "modular", but I dont know what the "s" is standing for. Maybe "set" or "scientific". -

late answer: For some reason they rarely do so. Battle packs seem to be on ice and yes your idea for KoR BP is great BUT as many hair and helmet molds; these might be irrelevant long enough to be taken out of production. It's ironic as one new mold for Mando or for the Armorer or many other figures, would have been so much more useful than the monkey mold from Solo or the several KoR molds. This was always weird, especially with SW. I think Bescar Mando was the first NOT super expensive fig to get armprinting where it was really necessary. In Rebels we saw Kanan, never getting his shoulder pad-printing but weird never-to be reused wookies did. Also Sabine didnt get and so on.. I'd be fine if just necessary, important characters would get the special treatment. The monkeys we can only ever reuse for a classic planet of the apes MOC. -
Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree with your content mostly; very interesting input. Just one smartass remark: JK didnt change her race but her skin pigmentation (after suddenly finding out about the colour palette). My 2 cents: I think theres unlimited potential in exploring universes of HP, Star Wars and others. FB did a magnificant job in showing the US perspective. They could go prequel route or even explore the universe in different parts of the world (like Japan; wizard Samurai anyone?). My problem: I may dislike the Marvel movies and find them utterly boring but objectively speaking: they are quite competent and are a canonical masterpiece. This aint easy; DC is a canonical mess after 4 movies and lets not talk about quality. I dont know who was responsible for FBI but it really worked. It was not "Look this is like Harry Potter/in your face", it was creative, it was its own thing, etc. The second one - no offence if you enjoyed it; it was "LOOK THIS IS LIKE HARRY POTTER WE HAVE NAGINI AND YOUNG MACGONIGALL AND"... But when studios see cash they make weird choices. Chances that some vision like Lord of the Rings comes out are unter 10%. Its more likely some incompetent suit-folk messes everything up cause they want it save (which is ironic). I also dont know what part JK had and will still have to play before becoming so interested in "female identity". So, since hope for good content (and therefore quality Lego) is slim; I hope they go full on Michael Bay mode: I want wizard Jesus prequel and wizard Buddha as well as wizards in space. (also what about wizard aliens? Wizard lizards vs. lizard wizards, Dobby stand alone movie, Snape vs. Predators vs. Avengers) -

SW rather always did these weird new molds that are never being reused again. Remember Rose Tico First order hair/helmet combo? Or dozends of KoR helmets, never to be reused again? The monkey henchmen from Solo? Anyway I wonder how that helmets gonna look. I think for the "standard Mandos" the old helmet is fine. But yes with how they do things now a new mold in generell would also be nice: My biggest nitpick is that the black print always felt superficial. Costume helmets or the first official ones have holes where there are visors. With a black head underneath this always looked really cool. Getting this black (or in Saxons case yellow) "visor" part with dual molding would for sure give a better appearance. They could also just do one special helmet mold for Mando and the others with this kind of "comb" style - and use the old helmets for Boba (not Jango as he appears to never get his Slave I set ). In any case: This year we didnt get many new molds so far. One for Saxon, one for Mando helmet and one for Darksaber - should be possible with last years budget . But then again.. - if we just get Saxon and Bo Katan as figures half as nice as Bescar Mando - Im already happy. -

After getting the speeder set with the beskar armor I found out - it fits perfecly inside the ship! Even with all the stuff I put inside. I used the chance and modded a few more things. Except for two angled plates at the back theres only 6 exposed studs. Also almost no anti studs since I used the tiles which are flat on the underside for the camera unfriendly angles of the ship. I hope I find some time to make some kind of flickr again so I can post pictures here.- 110 replies

I guess they all have pros and cons. Dont forgett the original NC hat a not to camera friendly angle. And yes for sure it was the best. But its like they gave us one time 5 christmas presents at once and now we complain cause they only give us 3 christmas presents. I think the set looks amazing from any angle, I could and would also pin down a few things which dont fit perfectly but its still an amazing set anyway. Whatever comes after Ninjago; I think we'd really miss this theme... -

I have no idea about the media product. But I really appreciate the clean builds. The dragon is quite unique but to me it suffers from the blocky legs. Lego gotta do something about their joints. They are blocky, colour fixed and limited in motion. I hope we get new pieces in more colours for mechs but especially creatures. The boat with less than 300 pieces but 50€ would be really expensive but at retail I might get it. Also the new hair-straw-hat combo is cool. Would be really useful for Ninjago. -

I never understand this... its Lego. You can change pretty much anything anyway. Its even quite fun doing builds mirrored. Like if its too hollow: Well the set is still an amazing deal; if you wanna change it and have spare money; get 4 of them and create an interesting building that way with some kind of park or lake in the middle. I mean what can I say it started as a stupid toy seller Ninja-cardgame-spinner-dragon-cyber-sci-fi thingy. Now we got a quite diverse and deep show with a huge lore (as I said many times to no ones interest: theres actual feminist theory worked into Nyas multi season story arc). ...and we get insanely nice and creative designs - also the best deals of any theme. But yeah its one colour too much or one stud too tall. -

The best thing to do with an AT-AT would be to motorize it. Its not that hard to do for Lego themselves and would be a really cool play feature. Instead of putting weird functions which cannt compete with normal video games (like they tried with Mario or Hidden side), they should rather be pragmatic. Put some light up functions and motorisations in the few products where its possible, combine maybe with sound functions that can be controlled by phone... About battle packs: Shame since it was the best way since years to get good figures cheap with some nice molds. Sad also since we usually dont get many figures in the expensive SW sets (sometimes like 4-6 figures with mostly repeats and slight updates in expensive sets). CW S7 Mandalorian battle packs or similar stuff would have been interesting for sure and I cannt believe its much more obscure than some OT side characters. -

Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Indeed; I would have prefered slower, more specific waves. To get proper Legacy figures and proper golden Ninja; with golden heads and maybe even special weapons. Would have been much more collectable. I understand though how they do it, since the waves are more diverse and kids wont care too much about this or that reused print. ....but nonetheless I allow myself to wish-list for an updated Morro and others (with reuse of the hidden side pieces), amongst sets we never got (like the Overlord dragon). The flying ships from the ghost season would also have been nice. So far we only ever got a small possessed version of the ship.. -
LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Ok first of all: The tv show has been the worst toy commercial ever. Vehicles are broken within minutes after their introduction and the message or resolve of the story often contradicts the importance of the "collectables" anyway. The whole point of Cole's 2 swords was in the end that they had symbolic meaning but no real power. They broke shortly after being used. I think this is pointing towards a strong and independent team of writers. Yes they gotta feature this and that; yes they probably work together with the toy company. But overall the story is the story and doesnt change much. ..And again: with Ninjago we at least get a lot of useful molds and prints. May it be mechs, apocalypse, steampunk or now even medevil and islanders stuff. Hidden side, Nexo and Ultra Agents were much more limited. I doubt we will get another "single themed theme". Maximum another thing like hidden side, or nexo knights. Most likely in combination with technology. I think Ninjago is the best shot of getting really good bits and pieces of diverse themes. Dont forgett the last classic pirates rehash, which failed after one wave. -
LEGO Ninjago 2021
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I dont know what some people expect. Ninjago is one of the more childish themes for a product made mostly for children. All these boxes on shelves worldwide are not getting purchased by AFOL's. Whenever I pick up some Lego in stores I see maybe 1-2 shy AFOL's and 99% children with their annoyed parents. Im not saying TLG does their research perfect but they believe some stuff sells while other stuff doesnt. And it seems to them "rock raiders", islanders, classic pirates, cowboys or medevil stuff doesnt survive as a theme. They rather fuse everything with Ninjago and use licenced themes to sell different things to different people. Its not perfect but its the world we live in. Im really happy how easy Ninjago stuff is to modify into clear steampunk, medevil or modern asian settings. almost any outfit and gear can be used without issues for historical settings. Allmost all ships and dragons can be used for this as well (with some modifications). We get to enjoy much better designs with much more prints and molds for better prices than we got most time with any licenced or classic themes. Just because it still sells for children after 10 years. Who knows maybe in 5 years Lego will not be able to produce at this scale anymore due to kids prefering easier things like anything comming from a screen or cheap and more practical toys. Who knows. I, at least want to be thankful for the great stuff we get and maybe for some people complaining here, TLG will see through huge success of one of the waves that a medevil setting, aqua setting or something else could be profitable. The problem is simply that they have issues in many regions already with stores not wanting certain lines anymore. They maybe want Creator, City, Friends something with cars and maybe Ninjago or Star Wars. But if they dont take the new theme in then why produce it? The classic toy market is shrinking, thats the (for us) sad truth.
