Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
while we are talking about recycling: I have always wondered why TLG doesn't tap into the 2nd hand market: I heared TLG bought bricklink. I would actually get more Lego if I could but space and money went into older sets. Some I managed to sell or give away differently but despite trying I found Bricklink horrible to manage. One dealer even offered me to use his account to sell my stuff but seeing the effort he had managing his store I though no way it ain't worth the labor involved. Now I now this ain't all Lego's fault or anyones. But for people like me it would be beneficial if we could simply sell older sets and figures at an actual Lego store. I have figures and sets worth quite a lot of money but I don't want to go through the effort; sending them around the world with all the implications. Simply giving to a Lego store for much less money - they could resell properly and without big effort (since they have proper distribution) while expanding their business and still profiting from the 2nd hand market. -

probably because it would bump up the price. Not just the "higher quality" for packeging - it's about the existing mechanics of how to put what were and the process to change. The change is often the problem in a large company. But yeah, with some ecological reforms what wont come until it's quite late that would be managable. Like states could make funding for companies that do reuse and recycle more. -

what weird choices for arm printing.. Once I checked out some costume site for printed arms for the mando battle pack - it would look soooo much better.. I know its possible but I think this kind of connection looks just too blocky. Just my OCD; I know Lego is blocky in general ;) About multiple Mandos: next to Lukes hut, the Mando sets are the only ones I did get ever since Rebels stopped releasing sets - but I gladly take a Beskar Mando every day. Useful cape, useful helmet, useful printed arms. Even black heads are always welcome I think I could have 5 versions until I'd run out of options what to do. It's just so much more useful than yet another Harry Potter with the same pieces for instance. BUT I do understand the desire; Lego does produce the jet pack piece, Lego could make a face print or a different helmet - so I never understand why they don't make different versions to spread out into different sets. I am aware that there are probably good reasons - limited distribution for example. And I am happy they don't put unprinted arms into every set except for the biggest.. -

I think 2 studs are visible in one promo picture of the set. Unfortunately - I would have liked a "clean" piece; similar to the 2 armor pieces ninjago has given us in the last few years. I think the piece used for Wrecker is just too similar to the Galaxy police piece. but yeah - brick built jet pack ahoi - the question is just how to build a jetpack with two studs? I have many brick built jet packs that Im proud of; but they are all with 1 stud connection. -

Overall I'm just happy we actually get a new Boba instead of just the old one, as it was reported by leakers and as we all expected. And best of all: one of not many SW figures with arm printing (so far only Greedo, 3x Boba, Vader, 3PO, 2x Wookies, 1x FO officer, 2x Maul, Bescar Mando as far as Im aware of) But yeah, would have been cool to get dark green helmet. It's hard to say and depends on the versions of the movie/lighting anyway what kind of green Bobas armor is anyway. To me the ESB version always looked like a matt dark green in general. -

but is that the point of a story? Im not even just talking about Star Wars but it we go that way; the OT was pretty light in tone except for ESB. I think TCW was very experimental and that was great. It had the weirdest arcs and somehow most of them have something special. But to me it felt often pointless; many arcs were less well executed episodes of Star Trek the next generation, Avatar or Ghibli movies. I think many times Filoni or Lucas try to handle heavy topics they don't understand or cannot transport within their universe. Wheter we take the slavery arc, the one about supporting terrorists on Alderan or about the big prison - there's so much real life context to it; but the way they handled it was insulting at worst and not very "poetic" at best. I don't want to start discussion about white upper class people trying to be deep with topics they don't understand and social groups they don't know but let's say if better written and researched some arcs could have been much better. Rebels in that sense was focussing on the individual arcs and relationships; it was much more complex in that area but much simpler in the political realm. In one season Ezra or Kanan had way more character developement then most characters in TCW. Don't forgett Rex (great character) needed 4 seasons until obideance in the Umbara arc and I think until bad batch to be really more of an individual thinker. Ahsoka was pretty strong in terms of constant developement but then again many episodes were not about her. And I'd say any other original prequel character was more or less damage control (and that's a huge compliment to the showrunners). Last one: higher stakes would have improved Rebels surely: Lothal, season 3 ending or the final fight of Lothal could have needed that. Sato and Gregor (RIP) were not enough to make me feel this was a real battle. But this weakness for Rebels (and many others) and strengh for TCW doesn't change that the show runners abilities in many ways have grown incredibly with Rebels. It comes down to individual taste. I'm sensitive when it comes to some topics TCW failed to touch (while I respect they tried) but I can look or laugh away some flaws or Rebels. With others it's the other way around. They are both great shows and due to different circumstances I feel like "ONE SHOW IS SUPERIOR"-comments are always a bit flat. BTW: with Bo Katan we actually get a figure from the Rebels universe for the first time again! I wonder what face they give to Gar Saxton - he shows a flesh head but they don't show, while I think the random Mando got a black head. -

Isn't it even hard to put both shows in the same bed though? I cannot understand how people can enjoy the sometimes awful and incoherent writing from TCW compared to the well thought out and professionally written characters in Rebels. But then again Rebels built on all the work TCW did before. And TCW may have had a lot of lore potential - but they also had the "prequel" backpack. It's crazy how much this show redemed Anakin or some other aspects of the prequels. Until I got older I actually liked the prequels but movie-Anakin was always disgusting to me. Unfortunately Rebels was limited by the age rating, half the budget and single episodes (no arcs). But within that I'd say they did a pretty admirable job. With TCW of course you got weird stuff like a huge Spider-Maul arc (I mean just that trash-planet episode was freaking beyond anything you'd ever expect form a children cartoon), villain perspective episodes, Umbara arc etc. So always depends what's your preference - I prefer Rebels over TCW but they were both very respectable shows doing best what was possible under the circumstances. The same can not be said about the sequels. Objectively they were just a mess with no plan from start to finish. speaking of which; it's so great how much more creative and finished builds and figures look now that we are pat the sequels (never to be seen again). -

I built the Hydro Bounty yesterday - And I completely love it. However it is a pretty bad deal - compared to the usual "big" ninjago thingis I think. It really reminded me so much of older sets - like anno '2000 sets, because there is no proper structure, a way to hold it without popping off pieces - like the small lanterns, or the "wings". Also both the main feature (wings spreading) and the mech aren't really that spectacular or useful, when compared to the features of say the Land Bounty or the possession bounty. The MK-HQ not to mention; it has a ton of features and interior. Ironically as I removed the "string" mechanism and found out that operating the function manually on just each side wing works much better and doesn't take away so much space (I built it correctly but it's really not that stable). Seriously I have no idea how this set could be made into a set; as an adult I love it and find good ways to modify and hold it - but kids or people who dislike modding will have issues and get frustrated with it. That being said, I was aware of these flaws from before getting the set - and I love the submarine anyway just because of it's beautiful design and my obsession with fantastic submarines. Today I spent 6 hours modding it (mech function removed, longer nose more quaters, fluent colour scheme). In this stage its probably my favourite set after the movie Bounty. So depends - if you really like the design or the idea: then this set is for you. But objectively I think the MK HQ set is a better deal and a better accomplishment as a set. Edit: only one thing suprised me: people in reviews said the Sub-Bounty is incredibly long. Not that I complain; I'll save a lot of space but it's not that big. If compared to a SW Star Destroyer - its smaller in lengh and witdth despite the higher price. -

Wow, that Slave I. And it even has useful figures - and both of those figures have arm printing.. So I feared they'd make the ship bigger just for bumping the price but actually I think this is the perfect size for such a ship. I mean there's not more interior in the UCS version anyway. And the rest: finally good minifigures again! We got almost 15 new mandalorians in around 2 years! ha and I called it: they use black bar for the dark saber -

I got the 2 dragons and the sub-bounty 2 days ago: - so the wings of both dragons are really nice, high quality fabric. Like actual fabric - I have seen many dragons and ships but I have never seen the cape fabric used that way before. - one problem with them is though that they might rip easily. Also they tend to fall off more often on their on (from the joints). I don't have any problem but kids won't be too happy. The money went into the fire dragon for sure. So many specific colours just to make it work. It's almost perfect - the only nonsensical colour choice are many modified dark tan pieces. Easy to replace though and otherwise the best dragon, even beating Lloyds movie dragon by far. The water dragon on the other hand is much more messy. Its really clear they had only 1 colour for the outside of each of the 4 colours that should be visible. Therefore it's a bit of a mess of colours instead of the nice blend like with the fire dragon. And many of the colours that should not be seen are visible slightly. But still a really cool dragon - I also like the unique flapping effect. For sure the designer also did Lady firstbourne. About the Bounty: I never would have thought how much fun the small subs are! I thought it to be impossible but actually it's really easy to close the gaps. There are these new curved pieces from some red Star Wars T-Fighter - I have some from bricks and pieces and replaced the original curved plates - it closes the side gaps at least. And on the top the "gold bar" pieces are fitting as well. On the front, I just replaced the "holder" pieces and angled alternative pieces forward - then there's barely any gap! Minifigures look also pretty cool - Nya is by far the coolest figure ever. And the scuba helmets don't seem oversized anymore in person. Just Im afraid the rubber pieces will not keep their quality. -

Lego has a weird policy with this. They did dual molding for like a year and then drastically reduced it with the super hero sets immediately. Batman hasn't seen dual molding in a long time, except for more special sets/CMF's. Yes, they did for Spidey last year again until they didn't for this year, until they did again for a 20$ set. It's weird. There's no logic. Miles Morales has the right legs, this admiral figure should have had in a 10$ set. As always - I think there's more rules we are not aware about, leading to sets without much better - already existing - hairpieces, leg pieces and so on... -

that way my first priority. But let's see - for the winter wave I think we did get some parts later, though most pieces are still missing. Mostly I'm sad Nyas hair piece is following Cole's. The only ones which are not available and they are also exclusive to sets. -
Lego declining drastically?

thx! and no offense taken; I just wanted to make my intentions clear. With all the toxic communication surrounding TLG it's easy to see the title of this thread as something similar. In any case: happy to hear all the opposite and diverse reports of other areas. That gives me trust Lego will not be outcompeted by technology yet -
Lego declining drastically?
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Kim-Kwang-Seok's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am not aware of those data. Would be interesting to see some statistics; crunch some numbers though. I didn't start this thread to dramatically insinuate something negative. I am mostly interested to understand this phenomenon and compare to other regions. It's like with broken pieces, different colourations and bad prints - I had much more issues with the few sets I purchased in the last years, but when talking about this in a thread, opinions and experiences were quite diverse and divergent. @Lyichir gave interesting explanations; anyone thank you for sharing your information anyway. As mentioned I don't purchase much Lego the last years - but I like the idea that I can buy a nice set one year after its release. Seeing that I cannot do so in a store here (Germany is a country with a large Lego culture, middle class and so on..) anymore so easily made me a bit afraid. But I guess it's just the times changing and the visual impact of "no sets" manipulating me. -
Lego declining drastically?
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Kim-Kwang-Seok's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think all of this makes sense - but then again the reduction (at least in mid-big german cities) is so drastic. Im talking about whole walls of shelves that were dedicated to Lego and now in all of these stores theres like one wall with 3 small shelves. If I were to guess, I'd say it's around 5-20% of space for Lego, compared to some years ago. And without purchasing from Legoshop directly, it became difficult to impossible to get many sets - 100€ sets more but also cheaper ones are sometimes hard to come by. This includes other online retailers (like smyths toys online): last year I've noticed many Star Wars sets from the winter wave were no longer available before the summer wave even hit the shelves. Usually This was the case with the winter wave of the last year. I have had more luck to track down unsold older sets in stores randomly actually. And sometimes they looked like the same unsold boxes. I have asked employees why they don't put better discount - they said it's cheaper to send them back to the warehouses (?!). At Lego shop - yes, sets are available as always. But I didn't see this with other online shops. What I did see though was a rise of alternative brands in smaller, private toy stores and syrian, iranian, and kurdish stores. -
I wanted to start a thread for some time now about the posible decline of Lego products in different countries - I never found any other thread. If there is one, I'd be happy to merge them. - Around ten years ago at least in Germany I noticed a big expansion of Lego layouts in stores. It became smaller again after some years. - Since like 2 years though the Lego sections in stores (in Germany at least) have shrunk drastically. - Many products - even at big toy companies, like Smyths toys - were simply never available (not talking about exclusive sets here) or are no longer sold after 6 months. I remember Star Wars sets used to be available for over a year. My question: how is the situation in other areas? Are there similar experiences or is this an isolated phenomenon? If not - what implications are there?

Wow, that reviewer shakes his cam and talks like he's on some good cocaine.. naja - theres also a review of the fire dragon. Pretty neat sets I have to say! Not as many colour fu**-ups as usually with the dragon - Lego seems to get better with colours; at least looks like the most colour consistant dragon to me so far. And price increase aside - the Bounty is one cool thing. I think I just make some kind of seperate room where there's storage space - 4x6 studs is enough to put a table, turbine or something. And the gap of the small subs doesn't seem sooo bad anymore though my OCD wants to change the design anyway. -

Due to lack of money and space I rather sell Lego instead of purchasing ;) But I always admire sets from afar and have a big fascination for dinosaurs and therefore new prints and molds. No man. You proof that you are not a true fan and hate Star Wars as well as dogs if you don't want Chewbaccas canon grandfather (grumpy) and his wife in the UCS "Chewbaccas home-tree" set. Seriously I stop my sarcasm now: there is a market. And I think many weird things from the OT are sellable. You have to put into context maybe the impact those movies had and still have. And I get many here grew up with the prequels and feel the same about them. But there is a line. I think Lego putting Dondana (old beard guy from background scene) in a set is the best (hardcore) fan service that we can expect. And this already feels pretty weird - Dondana is not an intersting looking alien or something, which kids can use to fight against with their "hero" figure. The prequels - subjectivity aside - are controversial movies, with much less impact (huge impact indeed but no comparison to the OT). So Lego might refrain from putting a lot of money into such fanservice. The Gungan king guy - problematic because it needs a big old mold but yeah, not so irrelevent for the movie. no-dress Padme, any Padme or the Anakin mother - kind of sad we almost never got them. But yeah; Lego makes what they think sells. Which is Anakin, Obi Wan, Yoda, clones, droids - and apparently even Jar jar. So if we don't even get Padme - who the **** would expect the death sticks guy? -

Do we yet have any information if Godzilla will be in one of the sets? Since she is a dinosaur-like person, it would fit into the line. How tall do you guys and gals think she would be?
