You have truly mastered the art of hull curvature with these LDD models - especially considering all the blocky elements used to create the effect. Nice work.

It's about time I stopped by the bakery, right, Phred? Every good town needs one. This all looks pretty good, and I like how you're angling the buildings so smoothly. We all know building a town is difficult, so the smaller scale should work well. The Pirates staff has been prominently featured of late. Could you please share the source of your sigfig's head and torso? I want to include you (and your fellow staffers) in a nice "dedicated" scene and I want to get them right, although you looked great in Redbeard's classic torso too!

This is a good addition to the small Lego schooner fleet. They tend to be out-classed by full-rigged ships by most builders so it's nice to see another sailing these waters. I'm impressed by your research as well. Keep it up!

No harm in having a little fun once in a while, right? Ol' Ben is breaking out the moves I see, but I must confess I'm having a hard time focusing on him with so many beautiful ladies clamoring about. Seriously, it's good to see some women in a theme dominated by men.

Another magnificent design of a classic vessel! I'm anxious to see the real brick version. The first photo of the ship over the old maps looks perfect - well, at least it will be perfect once she's fully built, eh? Keep it up!

This is a very well-textured build from top to bottom and looks about as realistic as Lego can possibly look. The water is really good, and so is the sand of the beach, but the combination of rocks and vegetation is simply superb. Usually I don't like quite as much variety of tall trees on islands like this, but you've managed to make it all look so natural. The dense smaller plants provide a lush feel to the rest of the scene too. I won't lie; I've never liked skull-shaped rock formations, but this being the mouth of the cave is more reasonable than most and it does fit the scene well. Excellent work.

This is what a small PtV entry should look like: a neat, clean, action-packed design that needs no explanation. The violent depictions and bloodshed meet the contest requirements fully and the overall concept is historically correct in every way - including burning victims alive. This being the Pirates forum, we might all be somewhat desensitized to the violence but it still makes me uncomfortable, and that's a must for an entry to have any chance of winning. BrickOn!!

This is a unique contest idea and certainly adheres to the spirit of the competition by depicting something truly evil. The overall design looks like it would be quite playable, but I echo KB in suggesting that a good rendered image would greatly improve the presentation - and your chance of winning. I'll be looking for it and in the meantime keep it up.

I'm no fan of the Black Pearl due primarily to the imposing and unrealistic color scheme (which would make Henry Ford proud - any color you want, as long as it's black) but I must say you've done pretty good with the overall design. I'll join the chorus of individuals who think the technic panel sails are a bit ungainly but I did read your reasons, and I won't argue the point beyond suggesting plain ol' black paper - not Lego, not purist, but everyone should understand. It's interesting to see everyone's remakes of this iconic vessel, even if I don't really appreciate POTC. Keep on building.

[MOC] Captain Cookie's Only Pirate Gang
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Actually, Phred, I didn't notice your sigfig until after I'd already posted my comment. I was (jokingly) referring to the ones behind and to your right (left in the photo). I also wondered about the whereabouts of our esteemed Captain B and whether any of you staff would reply... Perhaps KB is napping, or pondering a witty retort, or just busy brewing another cup...- 29 replies

[MOC] Captain Cookie's Only Pirate Gang
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Man, talk about a gang of misfits... Who's the yahoo drinking from the yellow mug? Or the goofus beside him? Or the doofus sitting in front of him? Oh, wait a minute... Actually that's not a bad crew. And I'm really liking the well-armed monkey. If you want to talk music, I humbly suggest, based on his recent shenanigans and his current location, that Captain Cookie start up with "Get around get around I get around" by the Beach Boys.- 29 replies

[MOC] Sleeping Beauty Castle and Cinderella's Carriage
Captain Dee replied to Stephle59's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm going to use a word I've never used on Eurobricks before: EXQUISITE!!! This is what Lego is all about: play toys for children, and even though we adults may make this kind of thing for ourselves there is nothing better than seeing small eyes light up at the sight of something magical. The build techniques are lovely, the colors look great (and I don't even like pink!), the size and shape are excellent and the details are fine. This is one of the coolest Lego creations I've ever seen. Excellent work! Bravo! Fantastico! -
Fantastico! All three are incredibly well-built and rigged, but the St. Matthews is my favorite with those smooth sides, powerful broadside and especially the sculpted and ornate stern. Just brilliant on all three. Excellent work!

All your ship designs are astonishing. They look like so much more than simple Lego bricks, which is extraordinary. I'd love to see them built - any of them. Excellent work!

This is a very good action scene that illustrates sailors' superstitious fears very well. The vessel and giant squid are both nice and the use of the colorful Armada faction is cool. Good work.

It's great to see a featured builder join the site. I'll lift my glass t' that! Welcome aboard!

That's a very nice little boat, and I prefer the first version of the bow. Perhaps the twins are smuggling rum in the barrel...

HMS Archangel - bluecoat flagship - 70413 MOD
Captain Dee replied to Murdoch17's topic in Pirate MOCs
This is a pretty good design overall, but considering the low sides I wonder if a cabin flush with the decks might look better. But it's your vessel, and I assume you're trying to replicate the basic look of the standard ship sets. The bluecoats sure need it! -
You've built a very good island complete with classic pirates lore. The design and techniques are nice and the level of detail is really good. I also like the dark and forbidding atmosphere of the photos. Good work.
-
This is an exceptionally well-built little scene, and the humor is good as well. The architecture and colors are nice, the palm trees and their bases are great and the basic story is well-illustrated with the Admiral slipping on the banana. The shark fin is a good finishing touch, should anyone slip and fall in. Good work.

I never liked the Black Pearl due to the black-on-black-on-black-on-black-on-black color scheme, but your model actually looks pretty good. The shape is fantastic, and while the gold window lattices look out of place, they provide some much-needed color that would truly look nice as an accent color throughout. Excellent work!

This looks like a very good start. Best of luck finishing her up. On a side note, with all the Captains sailing the waters of this forum I might have to change my title. *wink wink* Keep it up!
-
That's a nice outpost and it looks like a fun play set. I never liked all the big skull formations - it just seems like it would be inviting any naval vessel in the area - but the concept is classic and yours is well-built. The scurvy sea dogs have themselves another good base.

Now THIS is what that piddly little Soldier's "Fort" should have been! Why oh why couldn't TLG have given us something this good?! It just looks so much like a modern take on the classic sets. The arrangement and overall design is good, there are adequate details, and plenty minifigs for serious action. The first photo reminds me of the dioramas from the old catalogs. Good work!
