[MOC] Kettenkrad
syclone replied to Samolot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Excellent replica of a very unique and interesting vehicle. The figure fits really well too))) -
Well, I don't think that being "too light" is a problem for competition, rather incompetence in making a proper trial truck from TLG. For all I know, if they made it the way others are made, the price would've been much smaller, and most likely even a 6x6 version would've been cheaper than 300€. And honestly, even with "fair play" parameters that you've set for no reason (I don't think in Lego TT competitions there's weigh/tyre size categories) - trying to find something performing as bad as that is a challenge in itself...

[HELP] stl to dat conversion
syclone replied to syclone's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank You so much!!! Indeed, turns out my stl file was a binary one, converted to ASCII and it all worked flawlessly! Didn't even know there were different types of .stl Here's the result, the .dat as well if anyone needs it: download Thank You once again! -
[HELP] stl to dat conversion

Thanks for such an interesting video. Seems that he is using the same github code from my first try - will have to dig deeper into python and solve that random error then. -
[HELP] stl to dat conversion
syclone posted a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Good Day. Started using LDcad recently to make instructions, but need a custom part to complete a project (the new Technic 49.5x14 tyre from upcoming Creator pickup and VW van). I have modified a 49.5x20 tyre to a 14mm width in Blender and exported as .stl (in mm, then exported into LDD to test and it is the perfect size). Now when it came to making a dat, I ran into some issues: - https://github.com/HazenBabcock/stl-to-dat Partially worked, but it output an empty dat file like this: 0 input_file.dat 0 !LDRAW Unofficial_part 0 BFC CERTIFY CCW And Python IDLE writes this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "D:\lego\stl2ldraw\stl2ldcad.py", line 30, in <module> for line in fp_in: File "C:\Users\Moroz\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python39\lib\encodings\cp1251.py", line 23, in decode return codecs.charmap_decode(input,self.errors,decoding_table)[0] UnicodeDecodeError: 'charmap' codec can't decode byte 0x98 in position 563: character maps to <undefined> >>> - https://gist.github.com/johnholbrook/3db07cda9e267ea6ee53b443588df44c I think I started it correctly, but it did not produce any results at all. - http://marc.klein.free.fr/lego/stl2dat/stl2dat.html I honesty lack the knowledge to make this work. - As last resort, tried Stud.io part designer, which first wanted me to install Stud.io (why???), which I did, but then it refused to properly start up, getting stuck on "parsing file" screen, despite various reinstalls and computer restarts. Are there any other tools that I missed out there? Frankly speaking, I'm inept at any sort of programming and simple command line interactions, even executing a python file has been a challenge for me, so perhaps I'm just commiting an error somewhere? If anyone could help in, or convert the file, I would really appreciate it. The modified .stl: download -
General Part Discussion

Don't have that part (curse LEGO's Forma sets for that), but from the Bricklink image, that "hat" on the end of the pin is larger in diameter than a ribbed hose, and would deform it if inserted. Do the normal pins not do it for your application? For me they fit quite snugly, and need some force to remove, cannot imagine a scenario where they slide off- 5,465 replies

Battleship with cannon
syclone replied to Bony_em's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmmm, I see, the technical details certainly make this gun unrealistic... though we can always play the sci-fi card of "new super innovative tech designed by a mad scientist" It could also be modified into a missile launcher simiar to a Yars RS-24 It would need the whole section to come down to ground level however, certainly not swiweling up there -

Well, the "target audience" for this set definitely won't need neither pliers or a brick separator, as they'll build it once and then let it collect dust on a shelf... Altough LEGO's brick separator is barely usable in Technic as it is, they need to learn a thing or two from other companies The troll theory is funny, and as other mentioned, I don't see a reason 2021 model couldn't have been as good as the other one. Don't think they'll lose much out though, as marketing brainwashing does wonders. -

Although the pictures are quite blurry, lovely shaping of the canopy and body, great looking vehicle! @Gray Gear The size seems okay-ish to me If we consider the technic figure seats in the canopy, although definitely on the badass weapon size Reminds of the Railroad cannon the Schwerer Gustav - a third reich superweapon. -

Are they just rubbing salt in our wounds by showing how good the design was?? Seriously, B&C pillars are much better, the grille isn't as bad, the bullbar makes the front of the hood much prettier, the model has rear lights, the tires are great and don't look like they're from a Tamiya RC car... what the brick is marketing/management department doing?!?!?!? Thta dark blue version is amazing compared to the BS we got! Also, is that a redesign of the balljoint frame? Now has much worse connectivity... -
A bit confusing, why would it even need the physical build in the first place? Plenty of AR apps can use just the surrounding environment (Sony Xperia camera for example). Honesly, just a way to fake value for money without providing anything real - you need a 300€ set to use this AR thingy... That's more expensive than what my professional drawing software costs, not to mention a simple AR app with preloaded animations. What this should've been IMHO: - Scan a QR code in a catalogue or website and preview the model/insides/functions with that AR thing in an app. - Have an option for AR goggles (Google Cardboard or similar, where they use the phone as the screen) A small gripe about your video though, quite uncomfortable to have a vertical video when the vehicle being filmed is longer than it is higher

Wasn't a fan of it, still don't like it (the review is outstanding as always, great photography and meaniningful explanations). Better than that orange "offroader", but worse than 9398 IMHO. Sorry Milan, I know you guys working there pour your heart and soul into this, but TLG's end product doesn't cut it for me, be it the colourvomit, C+/PUp, the ground clearance... refer to die-hard LEGO® fans for positive commentary. The set definitely has potential if these things are fixed, but at that point it'd be more of a MOC. Perhaps if this had a manual version with a significant price cut, it could be considered a parts pack for the aforementioned MOD/MOC. New tyres look great. But they'll be available on BL and lego's part service Nice to finally see a locking differential, was about time.

Very good set. Compared to the horrors of Creator "Expert" series, the insides are quite clean, though the random VISIBLE yellow axles are grinding my gears... The non-stickered version looks much nicer. If ever feel a need for pneumatics, this would be the set to pick up from TLG, perhaps the only thing missing is a (or couple of) small cylinder(s) for the outriggers, but as it is, it's well done too. Feels really refreshing to see that much functionality in a set, and hoping to see more like it in the future. Also, in spite of your rebellious efforts to allign the bushes, you've forgotten to allign the slits on them as well

Great use of these Bionicle/Hero Factory pieces in the fighter and the mecha Looking forward to the complete build)) -
Wow, absolutely stunning so far. Both the spoiler and the trunk look fantastic, all of those intricate connections pay off for the end looks, those subtle curves are delightful. For the trunk, would be perhaps be possible to mount a pair of 53586? Or the "window frame" would bend under the weight of the trunk? Though they may not have enough resistance to maintain the hatch open... As another option, perhaps a collapsible support under the trunk, that would fold in 2 when rear hatch is closed?

BuWizz motor review video
syclone replied to Marxpek's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, a bit of a letdown personally. I have the original BuWizz (1.0!) and seeing as even BW 2.0 can't cope with 2 of these was saddening (1.0 often goes into power protection mode if full throttling on Fast mode already, these would be impossible to run). Nice to see a redesign of mounting points though, but a shame overall quality isn't that good. The colour isn't making it any better, black was perfect IMHO. A huge bonus is the built-in cable - the extension wire is good for easy replacement or polarity changes, but it makes the motors much bulkier, built in one can be extended anyways. 6'5/10 from me - high price&needs additional purchases (BW 3.0+PU motors), doesn't look as good as the original but has better mounting points and performance. The competition is half the price with only a small (approx. 15%?) performance decrease, so I'll be taking that route -
Just contact CaDA's customer service, they even shipped missing electronics to a guy on Facebook. In regards of gearbox, it will, in fact simply make the paddles move. But the model originally was RC, with paddles coupled to a servo, so there's that... If you ever get a chance to motorise it, do so, lots of fun)))

Within Technic (0.5 stud increments) only with the latter (blue gear). The other one needs an approximately 0.25 or so offset, which might be possible using some sort of System connections, but I've no idea about it- 5,465 replies

I'd say they're already in use, only TLG has just arrived to the party Actualy came across a few instances these would be useful, specially if they were available in even length as well. But first I need more thin liftarms with and without axle holes! The current selection is quite limited in comparison to the full liftarms.- 5,465 replies

I think you meant kaido racers instead of Bōsōzoku. Though it is certain they can be seen together. afaik Bōsōzoku are bike gangs usually modifying their bikes a similar way to this: Kaido racers are varying in style, but similar to this: As far as Lego's "Power Racers" go, I find them inspired by early 00's modifications, where many were competing to make their car stand out visually and not always functionally (bodykits, chrome, big subwoofers...) Here's an example from Australia: ---------- Sorry to bring it here, but I believe it would be far-fetched for lego discussion)))
