Action Theme Forum and You!
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'd like to see a banner with representation from the most recent "Big Bang" themes, those being Ninjago, Chima and Nexo Knights. Adding the older themes would make it too cluttered. -
I can't speak for everyone else on that. Aside from a few small sets each year, I really only buy Castle stuff (Nexo is an official Castle sub theme so it counts ). However, I was referring to fans of not only Castle, but Pirates and Space as well. Those three themes have each been around for decades, and their fans are dedicated to Lego as a brand. Lego is currently cold-shouldering these fans at a never before seen level, and I think that it's reasonable to expect that some of them may stop buying new products, or at least buy less each year. If Lego chooses to only appeal to kids and completely ignore their long-term fans, it could prove to be disastrous.

I’m loyal to the Castle brand. Nexo is Castle. KK2 is Castle. Other than that, you’re going to be hard pressed to convince me to buy anything that “resembles Castle” but isn’t. For example, the Disney Castle is not Castle, nor are Elves or the Castle in Minecrat. There’s no amount of convincing you could do that would change my mind on that. Is it irrational? Maybe for you. But some of us like Castle, and only Castle. I don’t need to buy other Castle-like sets that Lego puts out during its hiatus, or convice myself that I want them. I’ll just wait until they put out actual Castle sets and buy old sets in the interim.
-
That’s the thing. I assume that Castle, Space and Pirates fans buy from other themes, sometimes in large quantities. The longer each one of those themes are gone, the less likely those people are to buy new sets, no matter whether or not they are licensed. I would argue that Lego is the in the process of alienating their core fans and chasing sales from kids who like them for the Star Wars aspect of the sets rather than the Lego aspect. This kind of thinking drives down brand loyalty from both adults and kids. 2004 was a direct result of this kind of policy.

Warning: Long post ahead! It's remarkable how this conversation keeps going in endless circles. Almost impressive, actually. Harry Potter is not outright replacing Castle. There's no evidence pointing towards that. There's no trend from the past to back that up. Harry Potter currently has four sets. Four. I'm well aware that one of them is $500...that's wonderful. POTC had three sets last year, and one of them was $300. It's gone now, less than a year later. I'm not saying the same will happen to Harry Potter, but I expect it to get the same treatment as LOTR. Two full years, maybe three if it does well. The concept of an "eternal license" is flawed. Star Wars is the only true eternal license, Super Heroes has only been around as a collective for six years. Whenever a new license comes out people seem to think that it will continue forever. Case in point: The Lord of the Rings. That was a fiasco if I ever saw one. There are three LOTR threads on this forum with between 5,000 and 8,500 posts apiece, and all three are filled with books worth of bickering and pointless speculation. The prevailing thought when LOTR was first announced? It was invincible. Unstoppable. A six or seven year run at least! Look at all of that material! Six films! One of the biggest fanbases in the world, maybe on par with Star Wars! That's what they thought. What ended up happening? Two waves, and it was discontinued without several integral parts of the story, including the main villain, ever seeing production. What happened on our side of the aisle, the fans of regular Castle, during that time? Castle is dead until 2025! Lego has abandoned us! and so forth. The following year...a Castle theme comes out. During LOTR's run. What a concept. And how did the fans of regular Castle react? They hated it. Completely and utterly. They bashed nearly every aspect of each individual set, not even realizing that Lego had done them a favor. They didn't have to put out a Castle theme during LOTR's *short* run, but they did. And the Castle fans complained. In fact, for the past decade, the Castle fans have complained. About everything. I'm a huge Castle fan, and I'm calling it as I see it. I've been browsing EB for seven years and I rarely see any positive comments about anything at all from the Castle fans. There's no single Castle theme that Lego could put out to satisfy us all, and I think we're in a unique position on this forum. We have people who prefer Fantasy, people who like realism, people who like Mythology, custom builders, purists, MOCers, collectors, people who only like Classic Castle and, as Mark Stafford said, will forever be dissapointed, and people who want any Castle at all. I'm one of those people. I understand that this is a hobby, but people who tell me "go MOC your own!" or "Use parts from the CMF figures!" miss the point. I want Castle. The theme. I don't have to change my interests based on what's available. It's a hobby, not a job, and I can want what I want. And I wish that everyone could start being more positive and agree on at least one thing: That we all want Castle, the theme, back.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018

I saw that exact same quote. It was incredibly vague and could mean three different things. That's not the kind of stuff you want to build your argument on.- 1,601 replies

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
No chance. Nexo is nothing like Harry Potter, in any sense. It's useless comparing the two. Lego would not cancel one last wave of Nexo because of Harry Potter. Also, Harry Potter is not outright replacing Castle. The same thing was said in 2011. People said that Kingdoms wasn't getting a second wave because of Harry Potter. In 2012, people were talking about LOTR lasting for 5-10 years and Castle being gone for that entire time. As ludicrous as that sounds today, people were dead serious then. The hype around LOTR was enormous and that 2012 and 2013 threads are some of the biggest in this site's history. What happened after that? We got a Castle theme the following year. Eurobricks never learns and definitive assertions like this only make these threads unreadable. Do you have a link for that? I'm skeptical.- 1,601 replies

Tell that to KK2, Fantasy Era, and Kingdoms. Y'all really need to chill out with the "Licensed Castle theme so Castle is dead!!!!111!!!!" stuff. Even Lord of the Rings, which is as close to Castle as it gets, still ran alongside a Castle theme.

In Memoriam: Remembering Nexo Knights
BrickJagger replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I have to agree with that. The Fortrex really has it all, from the opening feature to the livable spaces to the detachable vehicles and various shooting contraptions. It's probably a top three Nexo Knights set overall, maybe even second behind the Volcano Lair IMO. -

Unfortunately, Mark Stafford cannot comment on whether or not there were supposed to be more NK sets. It was worth a try.- 1,601 replies

That's quite the ambiguous statement. I admittedly panicked a bit when I first saw that, but it could mean a lot of things and I'm not too worried just yet. Positive vibes!

It's certainly an interesting concept and I appreciate that they're willing to try new things, but the end product looks stubby and awkward. I think Boost would have integrated better as some sort of "rolling fortress" instead of a dragon.

I don't think Lego would sell a set like that with no figures. There would be significantly less reason to buy it, especially since it's targeted at kids who tend to buy sets based on the figures.

I'm really excited about the new Hogwarts set, but mostly due to the implications of it rather than the set itself. Lots of great new parts for Castle builders are in there, such as the candles and the new turret piece. I hope that this leads to a possible modular Castle theme, with different connecting wall segments in a lower price range as well as a keep, and some more expensive, modular-sized buildings that integrate with other sets, much like D2C Hogwarts and the Great Hall.

That's too bad. Maybe try another name that's slightly different? I'm going to join right now, hopefully a few other people will as well. CC isn't too active these days but there are a lot of users over there who aren't on EB that I'd like to hear from.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the pictures! It appears that Berserker is the de facto leader of the VyroByters, given his front-and-center position. Unfortunately he lacks the detail and uniqueness that Magmar and Garg have. That's why I want a regular general figure. We really only have a maximum of one opportunity for Lego to give us new Vyrobyters, and that's through a possible figure pack. Hopefully they don't let us down.- 1,601 replies

I was just browsing Castle-Castle, and I came across this, from a few days ago in the "End of Nexo Knights" topic: I haven't seen this anywhere else, but I have noticed that a lot of strictly Castle builders seem to have disappeared over the past few years. If this is true... we could be in store for something special Again, this is far from confirmed but it's certainly interesting. Thoughts?

Future Action and Adventure Themes
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Unlikely that a one-off theme would replace Nexo. Given that the wave in question that was cancelled was for this summer, we would have heard about a fill in theme by now. -

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I mean, I certainly wouldn't rule it out. I don't think I've ever seen a new mold in a figure pack but TLG has included new prints in the past. In last year's Knighton pack the knights had new leg, torso and head printing. I think a "General" figure could get the same treatment.- 1,601 replies

I don't think we would get Runia in a set like that. I do however think that it would be likely that we would get the "General" of the Vampires in that pack, complete with a new printed head. Four figures would make the set $14.99 but it seems that Lego has moved towards the $12.99 packs. Edit: I'm pretty sure that there is no set release schedule for these kinds of packs, as in they aren't developed a year in advance like regular sets are. Hopefully Lego throws us a bone and gives us one of these.- 1,601 replies

What are the chances that we get a figure pack for the VyroByters in the same vein as the Lava and Stone Monsters? I've seen plenty of themes that were on the way out get a figure pack after their discontinuation was announced, hopefully that happens for Nexo too.- 1,601 replies
