The Empire of Eslandola: Sign-up and Discussion
Elostirion replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
All I have to say is thank you, for a great IC-initiative (and OOC I see nothing wrong with it either), adding A LOT to the story aspect of BoBS, and also forcing a multitude of fantastic MOCs, both from Corrington as well as from Eslandola. I like it all a lot! And to all those who take any of it personally: Please remember it's just a game. :-)- 780 replies

After the war, Eslandola had taken full control over "Isla de Victoria", which now had started to deserve its name. Román Fontonajo had ordered his men to take one of the now deserted old warehouses, renovate it, and start the one thing that actually is Eslandola: Trading! Small Commerce, activated as challenge-reward via microbuild.

OOC reply: Some wonderful MOCs, a great style of the collaboration, the MOCs match well while keeping up your individual styles. Definitely looking forward to more MOCs in that town. Also I really like the idea behind what you do here, and the story aspects arising from it. Whatever those might or might not be.

[SR - FB1 june 17] small acre of Tobacco
Elostirion replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow that is impressive, I'd say your best work to date. Those tobacco plants are really well designed; is this olive green or medium green? I might want to copy those... :-) The whole area is super well layouted, those brown rocks work perfectly here, and the round staircases are a beautiful addition. The slight curving of the tobacco rows adds so much realism. My only suggestion would be to add some details to the flat green grass, some rocks or a bit of dirt or just some stones, maybe some tools, a pile of something, a box, a worker or two, a small animal, etc. But that is nitpicking. Fantastic work overall - please keep those MOCs coming! Lovely work! Still enjoying those plants. -

Your chart is slightly off regarding size. You would have to square the values. 16x16 = 256; 32x32 = 1.024 => factor x4. Results in factors 9 and 40 for large and royal. Your point still stands. Also comparative profit of Royal should be 100x, right? However what also has to be considered is the long-term-aspect. Yes, a royal MOC does take 6 months to pay off. However let's consider a two-year-period (that is how long the ago the first royal MOC has been published): Large: Total profit is 24X15-75 = 285 DBs, for 2.304 studs => 0.1237 DBs / stud Royal: Total profit is 24x500-3000 = 9000 DBs, for 10.000 studs => 0.9 DBs / stud Also keep in mind that you may only license up to three properties per month. During my most active times I easily MOCed 5-8 small or medium properties per month. That alone makes it reasonable to MOC larger, less profitable structures. I also would suggest reworking property revenues, but into another direction. The larger, the less profitable. Small structures should give starters an easy way in, but people should not be able to become as absurdly rich as for example I did. And please don't get me wrong, not trying to talk down your point int the slightest! It's just that I have totally different perspective (that of a player who licensed a lot of expensive stuff in the EGS) on the the whole thing, and I see it's important to consider both for leaderships, that's why I explained my point of view. :-) And regarding costs of royal MOCs: I have not paid a cent for the flat baseplates, I actually used lots of 32x32 and even 16x32 and 16x16 and 16x8, but I had plates above these. The real costs came from other things, like ordering hundreds of slopes for the roof, or ten thousand light blue diamonds for the water, etc. ... Yes, doing those in non-LDD and non-collaboration will inevitably become expensive. ;-) And regarding the amount there have to be more than 7? I can count: * MCTC Textile Factory Weelond * Fontonajo palace near Montario * Cotton Island near Salida Este * Parliament Hall in Montario * MAESTRO market place collaboration * MCTC Cotton Plantation Bardo collaboration * Nellisa Royal Road collaboration * Oleon Royal vineyards collaboration (partly LDD) * Oleon parliament hall (?) (partly LDD) What did I forget?

New Ship Classes - The Transition
Elostirion replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks for your instant reply! :-) Please also consider property-licenses in that process. Currently settlements are just like players in almost every aspect regarding licenses, at least that's how people like myself interpreted the rules so far. I agree this should be discussed. Instead of forbidding, however, I'd rather suggest to revise the mechanics altogether. Properties for settlements can make sense, but should be different. For example collecting harbour-tolls might be an option, and properties should be according to this purpose. That a city itself runs a factory - sure, that's possible, but in my opinion there should be some kind of game mechanics that are exclusive to cities, and properties dedicated to using those. The same should apply for ships. What makes total sense for a settlement is to own small ships operating the harbour. What also makes total sense is running ships for protection, of both the settlement or even the whole zone. If Nova Terreli has five armed vessels patrolling in the zone, protecting against piracy, while Bardo has none - well sure, then trade ships are much more likely to visit Nova Terreli than Bardo. For that to be lucrative, however, there would have to be a mechanic for settlements to make money from ships coming to its ports in the MRCA (which would make perfect sense in my opinion!). So for example Nova Terreli invests 150 DBs per month in its protection fleet, thus attracting way more merchants, and earns 300 DBs during the MRCA (e.g. 10% taxation on trading of ships during MRCA), while Bardo (full of pirates because the town offers no protection) only attracts fewer merchants and thus only earns 100 DBs or something. All in all: If you ask me there is a LOT more to be discussed about settlements than only whether they should be allowed to own ships or not. Currently settlements are like players, which is ok. If this is to be changed, it should be changed entirely. -
New Ship Classes - The Transition
Elostirion replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Suggestions: 1) When upgrading the ship limit (the +25 thing), a MOC should be required. Really, just any kind of small MOC, explaining how the sigfig got to have more ships. Why? Because I think this could lead to very creative and unique MOCs. It might be anything: Building a big wharf, expanding the harbour, having and administration-office, bribing and official, receiving a letter from king/queen/council of your nation, hiring captains, buying maps of the seas, buying wood, hiring crew, speaking in front of an assembly to claim the right to maneuver more ships, receiving some kind of naval honour, a microbuild of your fleat, etc. Really just anything, no limits to creativity, to express how you suddenly are able to command more ships. Just because I think that would add a lot to BoBS in terms of MOCs. 2) I recommend removing free warships for factions, or just any free ships for factions. There is too much money in the game, way too much. Factions should have the neccessity to taxate their citizens and even their settlements. All town banks alone accumulate 10.571 DBs at the moment, 1.200 DBs of which came in this month. Take the upkeep from 3x class 5 (315 DBs), and that money does not lead to even more inflation. Keep the MOC-free, though (might even want to increase the MOC-free for factions to 5?). 3) The sistershipping-rule is very complicated, at least complicated to read. I decided to try and understand it once I need it. I suggest to add examples, at least. 4) I think the case that you own a license but have not yet MOCed the ship has not been considered yet? I have quite a few of those, see below... Elostirion's currently licensed ships: (the new stats are suggestions! Please advise if they are fine!) La Presta Canosa, formerly 5F. Impressive photography. The pictures indicate a huge MOC, but it's actually quite a simplistic one. I like how you used real sunlight and shadows. You can really feel the heat of the beach at that town. Very nice work!

But where does this come from? I do not know any rules that would result in cutting the property revenues of towns by 50%?
-
The property yield for settlements seems to be off. Montario has licensed a medium plantation in December 617 AE. Monthly yield should be 15, but has been only 8 in all of January till June. I guess the 50% multiplier for town coffers might be applied for property yield as well? Anyways, a total of 42 DBs is missing. Nova Terreli has licensed properties that result in a total yield of 51 DBs per month, starting last October. For the sake of simplicity we may well forget about the lacking Dubloons last November and December. However this whole year (January to June) only 29 DBs have been received as yield every month, resulting in a total lack of 22x6 = 132 DBs that are missing for Nova Terreli. Could you please look into this at some point in time? :-)

"Fellow councilmen. Regarding the recent changes in financial affairs of Eslandola, I think we - the members of this council - should set a shining example, saving Eslandolan money as well. I want to openly discuss with you, whether a monthly salary of 25 DBs for a representative - or even 50 DBs for the Admius Legistrad - is still appropriate. My suggestion would be to cut the salaries down to 10 DBs for councilmembers and 15 DBs for the Admius Legistrad. What do you think?"

Eslandola Colonial Council, First Cycle, 617, VOTING
Elostirion replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
2nd Voting of the Colonial Council Part 1: Suggestion A [Capt Wolf]: 20% tax on build submittal income (so you'd get 8 DBs instead of 10 DBs for you first builds of the month), 20% tax on property license fees (so, for example, that small artisan would cost you 30 DBs to license instead of 25), 10% tax on ship licenses (so a 4T2 would cost 330 instead of 300 to license), and 10% tax on town banks (I've looked at the numbers and it should work; if town banks can afford more, we can adjust it to 20% in the future). Suggestion B [Legostone]: 5% on income for properties 5% on income for ships 20% on Free Builds 10% on Town Banks Voting options: A -OR- B -OR- NO -OR- ABSTAIN Part 2: Suggestion [Garmadon] All (active) Eslandolan members co-operate to build at least 3 Royal Properties, licenced by Eslandola. Voting options: YES -OR- NO -OR- ABSTAIN Please cast your votes within one week, that is until May 22nd, 9:00 CEST. A simple majority is sufficient. After a few days of absence Román Esteban Fontonajo returned to the council, informed about the most recent voting already of course. "Fellow councilmen", he started. "While I cherish your enthusiasm to improve our colonial laws, I ask all of you to stick to the procedures we have decided upon and lived by so far. That is: First of you do not start a vote just like this without discussion. Second, a vote needs parameters, like a clear set timeframe. Third, the voting should be done in the appropriate voting halls, to create an official record. As such I, as Admius Legistrad and thus the one responsible to keep order within the decision proccessed of this council, declare all votings regarding taxes invalid. However as I see the vast majority of you is in unison regarding these matters, I will immediately set up an official voting to not waste much time. As for my personal opinion, I think the proposal is not elaborate enough yet and still has flaws. Why would we put taxes on pioneering gains [freebuilds]? And how will administration be managed? But again, I will not stand in the way of our progress, and if that is the commong consent of this council, I will just abstain." Please VOTE HERE
