Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This comes as no surprise. With PS finally retired (when did that happen, btw?!) after its extremely long run, PC was the next to go. There once was a policy that they have three modulars available at any time, that went out the window long ago. Retiring PC now leaves four on the shelves, so the upcoming Butcher's Shop/Veterinarian can take its place as the fifth one currently available... -
The Brick Bank looks very nice in this setup. It's always a good idea to separate it from the crummy Laundromat. Doing it in 16 wide is a fresh idea and works out fine.

I still have three buildings from the Lego City I built as a kid. Hard to tell how old they are exactly, but my Lego City was a fixture in my room in the first half of the 90ies, and they were around a long time, so I'd say about 25 years. I have very few old pictures of that city that might help narrow it down, but who cares anyway *g*. I also have a weird Technic Supercar with two front axles I also built as a kid, which is still mostly intact. I stole a few blue Technic beams when I finally put together some old Space sets I never had instructions for as a kid... In my AFOL life, the oldest MOC that still exists is my very first modular building, the Hat Shop, built from only vintage parts in early 2014. But it will propably get dismantled soon, if only for lack of space. I intend to keep all my other MOCs (pictured below) together (I'll either find more room or dismantle a couple of offical sets to make room for the next buildings).

Unusual idea and great execution! Well done!

That's a really neat design, especially on such a small footprint! Be sure to post pictures if and when you build it in bricks.

Great work. The buildings are very well done and nicely detailed and the square as a whole works well and feels very much 'alive'. Keep up the good work!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Though in contrast to all the others you mentioned, Ninjago City follows the modular standard, at least in so far as it has the standard connector pins on each side. So while it belongs in a totally different setting, it still is somehow tied in. Btw, Jangbricks put it in his City for a video on youtube, next to the Town Hall. It didn't look half as bad as you'd expect. -
Brilliant as usual Not sure if that's intentional, but teh tile with the number 10 over the archway is upside down! ...I'd love to use some Sand Red in a build, but the price all the useful pieces command is just plain ridiculous

Help with identifying parts/sets!
ReplicaOfLife replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the info! It does indeed feel different / softer than the usual pieces, I noticed that. Do you know how recent this variation came in existance? I remember noticing an off-colored clip in one of the modulars (Palace Cinema, I think), but just put it off as a very prominent case of color variations that Lego has today (sand blue seems to be a color that is hard to recreate exactly, it seems...the sides of my sand blue buildings look as if they were created from two similar, yet distinctive colors. But I'm getting off-topic). But the modulars came out way after they switched to the new greys... Yeah, the hairpiece actually has the piece number (30608) on the inside...I misread that as 80608 when I looked at it, so of course I couldn't find it. *d'oh* The Technic piece looks exactly like the one pictured at Bricklink, so I assume it is Lego. The only odd thing is that there is absolutely NO writing on it, no Lego logo (obviously), no part number, no mold IDs, nothing. But I think that's the case for a number of Technic pieces (again, not very familiar with Technic stuff). -

Thanks I'm quite hopeless when it comes to Technic stuff or minifig accessories -
Help with identifying parts/sets!
ReplicaOfLife replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I recently bought some used lots of Lego, and found these two pieces that I can't identify. I'm not sure they're Lego, there were a few dreaded megablox pieces in the lot... First, this hairpiece (white minifig head piece just included so I could position it better for taking the photo): Second, this piece with two technic pins and one connector for a ratcheted hinge (or whatever they're called): Also, during sorting I found a clip piece in a weird gray color: The odd piece is the one right in the middle. It's noticably darker than both light gray and light blueish gray, and also misses the distinctive yellowish tint of old gray. Anyone know what that color is? The pieces I included in the picture are, from left to right, dark blueish gray, dark gray, unknown gray, light gray, light blueish gray. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ReplicaOfLife replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Don't think either will ever happen, and luckily so, if I might add my humble opinion. Both make absolutely NO sense within the modular series. Train stations in general sit by themselves, and would require a much larger footprint than the standard modular. Then there is the issue of platforms, tracks etc. And having an airport in a downtown street is just plain ridiculous. This does not mean that a large D2C set of either wouldn't be agood idea, but not as part of the modular building line. It just doesn't make sense. -
Thanks for the input, guys. Unfortunately, so far nothing has helped I updated the graphics driver (hadn't updated it in quite a while, and LDD worked fine all the time), and also tried the thing with the ldd ini file, but still get the same error. I'm really baffled as to what may be the cause of this. I didn't change any settings, drivers or the like. It almost feels as if LDD feels insulted that I installed other digital building programs
-
Hi, I wanted to do some work on my new project, but LDD has thwarted my plans: Whenever I try starting it, I get this error message: "Lego Digital Designer has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you when a solution is available." I already tried restarting my computer and reinstalling LDD to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this, and how it could be solved?

Well done! Love the detailing on the facade, it has a lot of depths and some nice part usage. The interior is great aswell.

Dealing With Burn Out........

[Lego Cliché #1] But that hurts so bad! [/Lego cliché #1] -
Nice build! It's rare to see a building that uses so many bright colors (especially the blues and greens on the front) that does not look garish. Well done!

Great build! The exterior is splendid, and the interior is nicely detailed aswell.

How long do you keep mocs or sets together?
ReplicaOfLife replied to Aventador2004's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So far, I've kept all sets and MOCs together, except for Bennys Spaceship, which I disassembled a few months back after having it on displayfor over two years. I'm not counting a few smaller sets that I only bought for parts but still assembled for fun first. However, I might have to change that tactic: My space for displaying my modulars is limited, and at the moment, I have room for only one additional 16-wide building. So I'll either have to find additional spaces to put some of them, or start taking them apart. With Brick Bank and Assembly Square still not built, and another full size MOC in its first design stages, this is a problem that'll need solving soon... -
Oh wow, thank you! Really glad you like my creations :) I'm very satisfied with the interior detailing on this one, that's something I struggled with on my earlier creations. Thanks!
