    Great work. Love the shop entrance, great idea to angle the windows left & right of it. Seen shop entrances like that a hundred times in real life, but it never occurred to me in Lego.

    Brilliant. Very realistic atmosphere, and great composition. The carefully selected colors work together nicely and everything just seems to be in the right place.

    I hope they don't include a vehicle with the next modular. Waste of parts, and there are only few buildings that warrant one.

    This is rather brilliant. One of the rare occasions where a digital creation prompts me to post something Some interesting part usages aswell - what element is used in the four small corner towers (beneath the dark blue cone and the dark bley round 2x2 plate)? Also love the small Lego city in the first floor of the pub building. Would love to see it in real bricks!

    I use it to design my modulars. As those are generally built from the ground up, I don't face many problems. The only time I really struggled was with the circular tower in my Record Store, but even that I was able to resolve rather quickly. Apart from that I only encountered few problems, none of which were a great hindrance (mostly legal connections that for some reason it wouldn't allow). I have no need for instructions, as I build them just using the LDD model as reference. The existing group/subgroup feature is enough to separate it all into useful sub-builds. Lately, I've looked into other tools, as LDD is missing lots of new parts I want to use, but so far I haven't found one that I can use as efficiently and quickly. LDraw is completely lost on me (as are all traditional CAD programs... just not my thing, I guess). stud.io would be cool, but it struggled even with a ~1200 piece model I imported (framerate goes down, which makes it hard to use), I find part/color selection cumbersome, just as the grouping into submodels and steps. So I guess while LDD is far from perfect, it still is the tool that works best for me....now if only someone found a way to add new parts to make up for the discontinued support by LEGO

    That's true I'm also eagerly waiting for any morsel of information on the new modular... Guess they tightened down their security even more, maybe due to that too well-known chinese knock-off brand copying many major sets really quickly... pure speculation, though.

    Oh wow! Surprised that Ideas allows this, though, it must be way over the 3000 piece limit, or isn't it? I've been holding back on submitting one of my MOCs because they all exceed that limit.

    Usually the line is drawn between Town Hall & Palace Cinema, with Palace Cinema being the first of the 2nd gen (due to it only having one upper floor). Looking back, one might argue for it to be the last of the first generation, though. But PR is definitely 2nd gen, as it was the first that was visibly (and intentionally) sized down on the outside to free up pieces for more inside detailing (Jaime Berard even commented on it in the designer video)

    Sorry for the late reply (I was on vacation): I still think that you can't dismiss other factors when looking at the differences you point out. As I wrote in my other post, I think it's very important WHEN a video is posted - if it's posted close to street date, or if it's even one of the first, it naturally will get way more views than one that is posted some time after all the others. And this, at least, is something we can check: Both modulars were officially released on January 1st. JANG somehow managed to buy & review his Brick Bank way before, on December 22nd, more than a week before the official street date! I would assume it was the first or one of the first videos on Youtube. His Assembly Square review, however, was posted on January 13th, almost two weeks after the official release. BrickBuilders Brick Bank speed build was posted on January 6th, still relatively close to the release date. Their Assembly Square speed build was posted on February 25th, rather late to the party. Considering that, it still got a massive amount of views. The designer videos were both posted around the official street date (Assembly Square was posted three days before, Brick Bank 4 days after). And still AS only has ~45.000 views less than Brick Bank, with a full year head start for Brick Bank.

    Great conversion! Doesn't work for me with the official modulars due to the wildly conflicting styles, but I can easily see it in a row of similar buildings. I'm picturing a small fishing village at the edge of the water, not much space to build on due to mountain cliffs behind... Nice work!

    That proves precisely nothing. You would have to compare the viewing figures of the BB reviews after almost 10 months to those of the AS reviews after almost ten months. And even then the validity of the comparison would be very questionable, as there are too many other factors weighing in (i.e. popularity of the channel at the time the review was posted, time the review was posted on youtube (was it one of the first reviews for the set, or posted later on), etc.)

    Not for the modular line, which, apart from the time traveling computer in the Town Hall, generally seems to portay scenes somewherein the time between the 30ies and 60ies. While not compatible with the modulars, that's pretty much what the smaller Creator buildings like Bike Shop & Cafe, Corner Cafe or Park Street Townhouse are there for. No need to further dilute the modular line.

    Of course they'll go back to the usual 2000-2400 piece size. Assembly Square was a one-off set for the tenth anniversary, which was the only reason for its vastly increased piece count. I'd be curious on the sales of AS, though, I have a feeling that it's much more loved than Town Hall, which up to Assembly Square was the only one that was over 150€ (at least in Germany, I know some sets were a bit more expensive in other countries), and the widely accepted rumour about Town Hall's relatively short run is that it was retired early due to poor sales. And, yeah, I think the older modulars in general were better than the new ones. Up to Pet Shop (and maybe PC, though it is considered the first of the 2nd gen), modulars were more realistic and believable as buildings. While I love the highly detailed interiors we get nowadays, I don't like the compromises that are being made to free up pieces for them. At all. I mean stuff like exterior staircases, walls not reaching the ceiling, stairs in one house leading to the upper floors of another, dwarfish floor heights etc. And the idea of having multiple or extra 'buildings' that are mere facades and that offer no significant interior space at all, like in DO and Brick Bank, is a joke. I mean, look at the Blue Building of the DO: The upper floors have just about enough space to house a small restroom or a small kitchen. That's aboslutely ridiculous. No one would usually build a house like that, it would serve no meaningful purpose! Same goes for the 'laundromat' building, especially if you take into account that at one point it would have to have had an interior stair-case... I would actually welcome it if they raised the average piece count of modulars to 2800-3000 pieces, at 180€-200€, because then they could give us buildings that truly fit in with the grand sets of old (CC, GG, PS...) in terms of size while keeping the interior detailing at its current level, and maybe even adding some interior walls.

    Nice work! Great porportions and architecture! I'm a bit confused by your updates: The July 2017 update shows a pretty much complete building in real bricks, albeit missing a few details compared to the current LDD pic - did you take that one apart again and start anew?

    Nice work, would love to see it in real bricks. I usually ignore digital MOCs, but this shows some real promise. I didn't realize that the right side was supposed to be adifferent building, only wondered about the red roof. Since it only houses the staircase for the green building, imho you could just incorporate it as an additional part of the green building anyway. Just change the yellowish/orange to green and they grey to tan, and adjust the roof accoprding to the rest of the building. Love the tower, I'm very curious about the technique used to attach the plates with clip. I'm guessing they are connected to each other by a bar (two four legth bars?), and held only by the tan clips at the top and bottom?

    That could be quite nice, actually, though for me they could just shove the delivery van and use the pieces for a bigger/better building. I too would welcome it if the next modular was just ONE building again, instead of two or three crammed together as with the last three modulars.

    That wasn't my point, though I see why it may have come across that way. Differing floor heights in different buildings are normal (near me, there are two buildings next to each other of about the same age with the exact same height, but one has four, and the other has three floors). What I meant was that the ground floor is too high in relation to the upper floor and roof. it feels out of proportion and makes the building look 'bottom-heavy' (if that's a word), with the ground floor being higher than the first floor and roof combined. It just feels as if it needed one or two additional floors to justify the high ground floor (like the Town Hall has, for instance). Don't really know how to put it better. But as I said, just my opinion - it's your call, after all ;)

    That is correct, though I think they only used the second class only version there. Btw, the same thing applied to some 4yg, which were used as middle coaches in ET65 units, and also were found coupled with ET85 units. Some of these coaches were later sold to private train companies and heritage railways, where some were painted in other, sometimes quite unusual color schemes. Another use was the conversion to track maintenance cars, usually painted a dark blue, and often with some conversions to the body (usually they had fewer windows).

    Never seen a modular building on discount in the Lego shop. The best you can get is the indirect discount using 2x or 3x VIP points.

    How would that fit TheRyan's wishes? He's looking for a set with 'tons of interior detail to play with' - GE has very sparse interior detail (I nicknamed it 'the big, empty box'), and adding two additional floors won't exactly help, either.

    The interior is great, lots of nice details throughout. I quite like the story you've come up with, and how you used it to add details to the two buildings. If I may offer some critique: The exterior doesn't work for me, unfortunately, the proportions seem a bit off - the ground floor is way, way too high in relation to the upper floor & roof. The facade of the laundomat already looked a bit weird on the official set, and by raising the groundfloor and making it even higher, you've amplified the problem. It gets especially obvious when put next to your other MOCs, or the Brick Bank mod in the other thread. Just my 2 cents :) Keep up the good work!

    I'm halfway through building Assembly Square, and so far I'd say it has the best & most interior detail yet. It's thought through and (for the most part) makes sense. Runner-up for me is the Parisian Restaurant. DO has some nice interiors as well, the entire ground floor and the Detective's Office itself are very well done. However, the upper stories of the blue/brown building are way too small to have a decent interior, and thus the limited available space is used/wasted on walkways to reach the Detective's Office, a toilet and a stand-alone kitchen for the sake of the storyline. Brick Bank is ok, both the bank part and the laundromat, but on the whole, it's just a solid rendition of what you'd expect, with a superfluous play feature thrown in.

    Just an offhand comment - suddenly had the idea in my head and couldn't stop grinning. ..."Set includes a chute down from the veterinarian office to the butcher."... Guess this will go on my bucket list for future MOCs

    Brilliant MOC, and great way to introduce yourself here! I fully agree on the peaceful exploration aspect. While there are tons of great (Neo) Classic Space MOCs out there, lots of them lean way too heavily on fighting and military themes. Even Benny's Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship! came equipped with a lots of flick fire and other missiles... One of the beauties of the old Classic Space theme was that it focused on peaceful epxloration, and on the later spaceships it was never clear (and thus up to you as a kid) wether those pointy bit were lasers, cannons or merely sensor arrays or some other stuff entirely.
