Congratulations to the winners! It was a really great contest that allowed for lots of participants and there were a lot of good entries. -
Book II Challenge II - Avalonian Civil War! - RESULTS POSTED
Cara replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I know there was a post last year where someone asked what Historica Drow looked like, and another person linked them to various creations. My search foo is non-existent can anyone point me to it? -
I use the soldering iron method it works wonderfully. The only figures you have to be careful of are the ones with the soft plastic molded heads (things like the Atlantis fish monsters).
-
This isn't what I use the most of but it is what I'm always reaching for only to find I've used them all. I find I use a lot of snot bricks or hinges, usually the 1x1 bricks with stud on one side.
-
I love the base, the vegetation looks so thick and lush. And I agree with the others the rocks are wonderful piece usage.

If anyone else sees falcon parts please say. That way we know it wasn't damaged box pieces being redistributed. In my bam area I found some friends guitars, the financial news tile from the cmf businessman and some silver microphones that I hadn't seen there before. So I bought one because I also wanted the alien conquest torsos they had (navy business man's suit and the red news reporter's jacket)

I love the whimsy. That is really fun.

This was all done in LDD, using the ctrl-K to take screen shots and saving the transparent png as a jpg to get the white background. Here we go! A much better (daylight) picture of the real life medium lavender brick colour. It pretty true to the LDD file, the only colour that isn't is how LDD displays yellow. If I could source the bricks I'ld use a light yellow. If I build it, it will be later in the year. I would source most of the whites secondhand locally over time and hopefully only bricklink some of the ornamentation. Oh, and I don't own those expensive cypress trees

I love seeing what people are doing with the new mixel pieces. This is a really great use.

Its medium lavender, because I would like to build it and the brick wall inspired me :) (please excuse the poor photo taken in florescent light, they arent as yellow as this -i'll take one in daylight tomorrow). All the bricks I used are ones available in that colour. <removed photo see further down>

For the diagonals, the inside wall of the room fits perfectly, but the window side I had match up the windows and work towards the ends. This meant I had to hinge the diagonal walls at a slightly greater than 45 degree angle and use a tile snotted on the end to make up that ~1/3 of a brick missing.

My dream Rococo inspired Château. A lot of the wall was done at various half-brick offset, that plus the slope in the wall at the top of window level, allowed for the decoration and facade bricks to be inset. But that did create a large challenge when meshing the inside and outside diagonal walls on the two wings of the building. I was especially happy with the curved entry staircase and the fountain. The center section of the building is the same width as modulars but the depth is greater. LDD files for the build are available at the bottom of the post. The exterior brick colour is medium lavender and all bricks used in that colour do exist) Modular layout: The Blue Room, panelling details: Window on the staircase. This shows how the half brick offset and slope in the wall allows the windows to be inset. The Back: Entry Staircase and Fountain: Link to files: This is the file mid way through before I divided the chateau by storey. This is the final file by slice with the interior Pictures also available on my Flickr Album. Thank you for looking.

I have to work on it tomorrow (unfortunately we've been busy this weekend). My second file should have the entire build in it, only split up into storeys so I could add the decoration. I can't get my computer to handle the cut and paste of putting it back together again even in small sections. But I have pictures of it before I split as it is modular so photos for the contest are ok. Thank you bak for the offer, much appreciated, I still have to figure out where to post the file though. Since legolijntje will accept two files I'll go with that for now. Its somewhere over 12,000 bricks.

Two questions. 1. I'm sitting a plant in a basket. Because the basket doesn't have a stud at the bottom I'm faking it. So technically my plant is a floating brick. Is this still allowed? It would be able to sit there if I built it with real bricks. 2. My free build model is stressing my >10 yr old computer so I am going to split it up into two files. One that shows the exterior fully built (but does not have an interior) and another that shows the floors separated with the interior. I would include all files in my entry. Is it ok to do that?

They both wear red dresses yet Melisandre does wear a scarf over her head... so I guess I agree with you. They aren't instantly recognizable
-
I thought they were instantly recognizable. Cersai's dress and the difference between the colour top and bottom bothers me. I am guessing its a different colour brick below the printing on each. I like them but they are way out of my price range.

I picked up two cups of medium lavender 1x2 plates. My wall had been stocked with all of last year's goodies, 1x2 tiles in trans blue, light pink, lime, the 1x4 dk pink brick, 2x2 lt bley tile, 1x1 round lt bley tile, 1x2 bricks in medium blue and dark red and the like. I also saw the trans yellow plate and the trans (red?) cone. Those had stickers around their drawers on the brick wall saying that brick was perfect for starwars or goes well with city. But those were the only signs of the themed bricks people here have been talking about.

I phoned to check, prices went up by one dollar each. So a small cup is now $8.99 and a big cup $15.99

LDD removing bricks upon opening a file
Cara replied to Cara's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This is what I'm having problems with at the moment I don't know why the bricks go out of alignment. Eventually they twist so much I can't connect the next brick in the row. I took down the wall in question and rebuilt it. Sometimes when placing a brick there is the option of having it perfectly match or it will let me place it what looks like one pixel askew. This is when placing a 1x2 brick on top of two studs of a brick on the row below. What I wanted to figure out was if that askew option is a bug or what causes it so that I may prevent it in the future. -
LDD removing bricks upon opening a file
Cara replied to Cara's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That is what I have been doing and the feathers are no longer a problem. Now the only real annoyance is when I build a row of a wall from either end in to the center that has an arch or window in the middle, my two ends of the wall are refusing to meet. I can pan around the scene and see that some how one or more bricks are a hairs breath out of line, even though I'm placing bricks over two studs. So when I try to place that brick in the center of the row it is greyed out even though every thing is perfect for a real life build. I kept having to remove bricks back until I find the brick that isn't placed 100% square. And I have no idea why LDD is not placing them perfectly.
