Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I sort of pictured it as just a building, without any particular enclosed space to house any trains except perhaps a short overhang on where the tracks would begin. (that way, people who didn't want to get into trains or didn't have the space for it, wouldn't have to). It would be a very hard task to accomplish, especially if the 32 studs limit is carved in stone at TLG which probably has more to do with cost efficiency than principles, but I am sure a clever designer *cough!jaime* could accomplish a complete product that would satisfy most of us very hard-to-please AFOL's. Well... wishful thinking anyway... as long as there is interest, there's a chance the bug gets to a certain ear. -

I think it would be too much to include a train and tracks, that would be up to you as the whole building would likely be quite large to start with, but the whole "modularity" aspect of it would come in handy if it was made in a way so you could expand it by buying multiple sets, (for those who want more) I think that seems to be the idea with modulars anyway. There is a very interesting railway station in Antwerp, Belgium, it's not only a beautiful old building, but it also has several levels for trains which could possibly make it fit into a 32x32 space. True about stations normally being stand alone buildings though, but so are town halls, and we had that. Lots of European cities have a railway station right in the central square. -

Am I the only one who sees it as a great opportunity to release a Modular Railway station that would combine fans of train sets with fans of modulars into one? Recent trains seem to have extraordinarily improved in design and proportion, and are marketed as Creator Expert already. Seems just like a logical step to me, if not next year, somewhere in the future. I am really tempted by the trains, but there's a missing connection. It would get train people into buildings, and vice versa. -
Most fantastic looking cars in that scale i've seen so far. Being mostly a car guy, I find it quite frustrating that there are no vehicles worthy of my modular street available. TLG makes some agreeable trucks and vans occasionally, but all regular cars look like toys. Your cars capture the scale and design perfectly.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I like your list best, might just be the first series where i'd want all of them. Such a shame we have to conform to all these fake morals. -
I scanned the stickers so I can make replicas if they get worn with age, but didn't stick the posters at all, I like the glass windows. I was more interested in weather someone has modified the car, as i think it has potential, but looks ghastly the way it is.

I measured 49.3 cm using a tape measure and level seated on the bell tower. (including baseplate) -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion

This sounds like one of the better series to me, like ser.10, but i am a town guy so i see how it looks disappointing from the view of a different theme. I am once again surprised how you Americans view bars and barmen as something extremely inappropriate for children. Bars are legal establishments and so is any profession that goes with it, I am pretty sure we don't see alcohol and drinking as something that is so frowned upon, that it would be deemed inappropriate for a toy. I am sure this is a US only - cultural viewpoint. I don't think lego has a problem with bars or barmen. But army men, now that could be a different story. -
Lego 10243 Parisian Restaurant--!New Build & Review!
Sven F replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
I think you are all taking the plausibility of certain aspects in these modulars far too serious. First there was the issue of how minifigs get down when there is only one escalator in GE, and now you are arguing weather turkey should be on the menu of a french restaurant. -
I pretty much share this view "other brick-brands deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth" except I don't find any amusement in burning plastic. In the beginning I would even boycott stores that sold lego clones altogether, but this has proven more difficult in recent years. Why? I don't know, i'm sensitive to stealing ideas and designs, it hurts me personally. Quality has very little to do with it.

I used to be a kid too, and was into the city theme forever, but you can only have one police station and one fire station in the course of about 6-8 years that an average kid is interested in LEGO. All those christmases I got a "boat, helicopter or cops&robbers" theme that were for me lacking in playability and mostly scraped for parts. I am not complaining today though, Lego has a large line or good buildings outside the city theme, things are much better today. Only thing that really, really bothers me, are road baseplates. Why do they keep changing them? and why do i have to buy useless crossroads with every straight piece?

Any news? did this set appear in any of the shops recently? European ones at least? Its mid October now. Still unavailable here. got some Ecto-1's though.

I almost opened a new topic, then found this one. I find it very hard to find good looking cars or vehicles in general that fit well with the modular buildings. I keep removing all my older 4-stud wide cars from the street, but my girlfriend puts them back (started to think i am the only one who has a problem with them.) LEGO makes some nice trucks, i quite like the movie monster muncher in the dump truck form and the ghostbusters Cadillac might work (slightly too big), but all the city themed cars look toyish for my taste. The cinema limousine is horrendous in design, but otherwise works well in terms of size. (wonder if anyone modified that one to look nicer) @ER0L; I keep checking out your flickr, those are some of the best looking lego cars i've seen.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

A tiny bit of me still hopes they do someday. I wonder if it would be financially plausable for TLG to rerelease CC and GG. I know they wont, just theoretically speaking. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

For the Town Hall. I think a lot of people postponed that one due to it's price and lack of "spectacularity", and are thinking " i'll get it, just not right now" I wouldn't put any bets on LEGO not sensing this. And although maybe too much thought and conspiracy is given to the subject of its availability status, it could be a way of LEGO trying to give you a push into that long postponed spending. Unless I am giving their market research department far too much credit. For me this speculation is too exhausting, i just bit the bullet and got all of the ones available at once so i can enjoy collecting them one by one in peace in years to come. Yes, it's expensive, but so is my peace of mind and I don't like supporting grubby investors. -
Suggestion on first modular building to buy and build?
Sven F replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in LEGO Town
If you only plan on buying one, then my vote definitely goes to Paris restaurant. it looks best on its own and could work well as a standalone display piece on your shelf. It also has the most detail in and out, looks good even from behind, and was most entertaining to build for me. If you plan on collecting them, then the answer is obvious, the oldest one available (currently Grand Emporium) - beware though. a decision to collect them can be potentially dangerous to your financial health as its hard to stop at 2 or 3, you will eventually want them all. -

It is speculation, but once it's official it will likely be too late for you to get it, so speculation is all you have. -

I am not sure that "a bar" has as much of a bad or "adult" conotation to it in Europe as some of you make it out to be. I don't see a reason why LEGO wouldn't make a bar, its not like there will be minifig prostitutes in the set. A bar with a couple stools and some bottles seems perfectly fine to me. -
Interesting idea. hopefully you didn't leave all your minifigs bald headed now.
