Yey! another freebie exclusive for online buyers who already have the cheapest lego to resell to me for 30$ on Ebay. Thanks LEGO.

It's comforting to see other LEGO store employees can't build display models properly either, I thought this incompetence was an exclusive feature of our S@H. They even managed to put the whole front part of the VW camper van up side down.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think they want both, and trying to meet two sides of something in the middle is called compromise, and compromise means that everyone is a little bit happy, but nobody is very happy. Except LEGO doesn't run on happines as much as it does on profit, and profit is biggest where the target audience is widest. DO will do ok now, but if in 2 years time, when more of the old modulars retire, and if sets that follow keep loosing on exterior visual appeal and size, I am safe to assume, a good number of AFOL's interest will drop out over time. But let's not be too quick to predict the future by what is so far a one-time deviation from what we are used to. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion

Unicorn Girl: yes, more furries added to the party Hot Dog Guy: this one will give out flyers in my town Paleontologist: cool figure as is, will get at least 2 Snake Charmer: Need the turbans, the snakes can go in the pet shop. Galaxy Trooper: no thanks Sheriff: moustache will be useful, and maybe the poster Samurai Girl: nice, but don't need it, maybe hair? Lady Cyclops: I think this one is pretty nasty - will avoid. King: I need the cape for my moc Elvis figure and the beard for the lumberjack. Goblin: sorry i can't share the enthusiasm, I just have no use for it. Fencer: Not sure what to do with it Evil Wizard: I don't like it Egyptian Warrior: good looking figure, but i can't use it. Disco Diva: it's ok I guess, we'll probably get a male variant down the line. Carpenter: This is my favourite. Alien Trooper: no, thanks. -
I keep hearing a lot of this "Lego was more versatile before, now you can only build what's in the manual" etc... and to my observation its usually said by people who know nothing about LEGO. Mostly parents who always think children should have what they had as kids, which is probably wooden blocks and playing cards. I hear them in the shop trying to persuade their child to get the Creator set because he reads on the box that you can build 3 different things. (as if you couldn't otherwise). The only learning advantage of Meccano over LEGO I can see is that Meccano teaches children that mechanical things don't always fit or work perfectly together, they sometimes need a good bash of a hammer to get all the components to cooperate, whereas LEGO might give them an unrealistic impression that all things in life work so flawlessly.

This is just guessing, but it seems to me that a lot of hairpieces and accessories that are exclusive to the CMF series are not included in any sets unless the piece is decided to be used continuously, and i am going by the fact the CMF's are produced in china and would complicate packaging. Duplicating moulds for use in other factories might be too costly. There have been a lot of cases where an existing cmf part would serve as a much better piece in a set than what they used. This might be why that seagull never made it to the Parisian Restaurant or why the flying flusher uses brick built plungers, etc..

i think I will be putting it next to the parisian restaurant so I can hang a clothes line across the gap and use blank flag elements as laundry. This will give it more of a mediterranean feel.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There's a fine line. I got an extra simpsons nelson who's head got lost, so I tried to use his torso and legs for a regular town kid and it looked out of place. a bit more cartoonish than otherwise. Maybe flanders, burns and apu's torsos would look better. I don't care much for The LEGO Movie, but TLM series had the most useful parts. The where's my pants guy had a great hair piece that I can now use on the Rock star to make him look more like Elvis, and less like a Kiss member, also great shirt. Velma staplebot has great 50's style hair, the western bot has great hair and torso for a prostitute, Shakespeare is a great gift figure, but his bald hair piece in combination with glasses is great to make a pedophile, the panda bear sells ice cream in my town, barrista - again great hair! Lincoln is great to have instead of the mayor in Town hall, etc... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion

I don't mind any series from which I can use at least some characters or parts. TLM might have just as well have been a normal series as there is a lot of variety in it, and had the most number of unique head pieces 15/16, but the Simpsons are completely unusable in any other environment, even the torsos look too toyish for anything else. I think the Simpsons run parallel to ser.12 only because they haven't sold all the stock. -

I can agree that so far PC is my least favorite which is a shame because corner buildings tend to be better just by being corner and it's a cinema which is one of the coolest things to have, so I feel it didn't fill out it's potential. 1. My doors don't fall apart, in fact I think the doors are one of the best things on this building. 2. The crappy car is indeed very crappy 3. Spire could be better, but doesn't bother me too much 4. I don't have any complaints to interior, there isn't much more going on in the cinemas i know. 5. Stickers do not go in favor to this modular's popularity, its the only one with stickers, that's a shame. I didn't even stick my posters. 6. another row of seats would make zero impact on my view of this modular 7. I think the projector is ok, and don't care about stairs or lack thereof in any building, I don't understand why everyone is so particular about stairs, I couldn't care less. 8. My palace sign is not crooked, and besides the front door is one of my favorite parts. 9. didn't notice it, doesn't bother me at all. 10. the lack of glass on rounded windows is a problem in general. So only 3 things I don't like; the car, the stickers and the whole Chinese theme, but only the stickers are a serious issue. -

But it still means that we will have about 3 months of simpsons instead of a normal series. I don't mind the simpsons, except that they disrupt the normal series. Wish they did them in parallel. -

Wow, thanks for that, the original limo is ghastly, I was hoping someone would give me a good idea for modding it. -
yeap, I am not too keen on the whole playability kids stuff, though it is funny how its supposed to be prohibition, but with cookies, I'd just like it to be funny somewhere else. We will see how it goes, maybe rich kids are just better customers than afols, or afols are not as serious as they would like to think. I am not too happy with the compromise, but not too disappointed either, will be buying it as soon as available.

Can't find the post few pages back, but word on the street is today is the day. Not sure where that calendar everyone is looking at can be found. I guess the designer overslept today for the filming. -

it's the 21st of November, mid-day here in Europe, still no announcement from LEGO, are they waiting for everyone to wake up? These are usually posted early morning. -

And a good decision it was if you ask me. The 2 cars we got in modulars so far were a bit lacking in design, cars in recent creator series look very poor as well, but those are for kids so they are somewhat excused. I'd much rather the cost of that car in PC was used for printed pieces instead. -

YES!! we are getting the psychedelic print cookies in the set, wanted those ever since i first saw them in a friends set. There seem to be a lot of exchangeable hair pieces and hats for the individual minifigures. -

looking at the back of the box, the Pet Shop's toilet is bound to get a break as we seem to be getting a second modular crapper. I can't figure out how many minifigures are there, seem to be 6 of them pictured on the front of the box, but then there's another guy in a red cap that appears on the back. -

All in all very likeable. We AFOLs are a very critical audience, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but should be taken into consideration how difficult it is for LEGO designers to please an as wide a group of fans as possible, and this modular seems to do that job best of all. This however comes at a price so some things may be slightly compromised for hardcore fans of the modular line we knew so far. Something that must be quite hard to do is make the buildings look recognizable, but not completely defined in location. (something Jaime seemed to take pride in) The office part of the building looks quite american - Chicago / Detroit boxy style. The wooden front of the "bar" is a fantastic touch and could relate to anywhere form France, UK, to continental USA, while the tall blue building reminds me more of a coastal or residential apartment building, but could again be anywhere from San Francisco to Southern France. Maybe I don't see them going so well together, but otherwise work quite well in appearance. Looking forward for the Designer video, hoping it will be presented by Jaime as he is one of few designers who doesn't look like he's been dragged in front of the camera at gunpoint, and is never boring to watch. -

The speculation about what might and might not pass review is solely based on previous results, and I don't think the whole Cuuso / Ideas project is old enough to determine their limitations out of such a small pattern. If we do this, then yes, large sets don't stand a chance, but I think the majority of large sets that reached review point had a lot more wrong with them than is directly affected solely by size, but we tend to put all the blame on that aspect. I can give you at least 3 reasons why the Apple store will never in your wildest dreams pass review, and not even mention brick count, size or price. -
Fantastic looking build. I love it when these super realistic sculpture mocs are made in minifig scale, it's more challenging, but it adds life to it. Its great that you can light a bonfire around the church, I am not religious, but a bonfire might have persuaded me to get up on Sunday mornings. I haven't been to Denmark yet, but have noticed in Finland that the whole church culture was much more modest in design and decor and more open to things like music and socializing compared to the south.

Fingers crossed for the museum to pass review, I realize it's a long shot, but you can dream. If i'm not mistaken it was one of the fastest growing support projects on Ideas so far. I guess that says it has something going for it. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

A Bar in most of Europe that I've been to (excluding English & Irish pubs and night clubs) is a place that you go for coffee or tea during the day, with or without kids, you can drink a beer if you want or a non- alcoholic soda. In the evening it gets more crowded, louder and most people would probably drink something alcoholic, but not necessarily. You would not be likely to see any kids at this time, but it has more to do with late hours than anything else. I am more concerned about the earth & medium blue combination than yellow, the yellow can look good for sure, but i'm not digging the market place scheme one bit. -

The bar rumor has been around for a while, it's the barber shop that's new. We've gone in detail about the probability of a bar, and my conclusion with all things drinking related is that only Americans seem to have a cultural biased view on bars as inappropriate for kids. Now i'm really interested in your bars, wonder whatever goes on in there that's so frowned upon
