LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Being greatly disappointed that after all we are not getting a hobo minifigure, I turned to using mostly the ser. 12 prospector figure for this job. Now just to find the butcher/ ice cream cap in black to make a chimney sweep and i'll be happy. -

a barber shop could be nice, but It will have to be pretty good for those colors to work well. Though as far as colors are concerned, i've been surprised before about what goes well together, some combinations I would never have guessed. Not a big fan of masonry bricks though, not in large quantities at least. -
These are great, Cars resembling real life vehicles in minifig scale are quite a rarity in LEGO

Yes, they could drop the brand and go with Acme coffee shop, but that move has to be done before it hits the review stage, otherwise it's not fair play to those who presumably supported it just because it's Starbucks. It's a lost cause unfortunately. From their perspective it would be like telling ghostbusters fans, you'll get your set, but it will just be a Cadillac ambulance with four weirdo pest controllers. -
What custom minifigure do you desire?

I would really like to have at least two different LEGO prostitutes. Knowing this will never happen, I am currently working on finding the best combination of parts to make custom ones that would be recognizable. I don't want to use the princes Lea torso. Especially if we are really getting an alley in the next modular. Also a homeless person, but that's easier. -

I like the Starbucks corner building, and will support it, but I think the "Starbucks" name only gives it a huge disadvantage. There are some ideas where the licensing part helps popularize the product, and there are some where it does just the opposite. Apple, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.. DO NOT go in favor of its approval, in fact they sabotage its fate (just my opinion offcourse) Even though many people would likely vote/support an Apple store or Starbucks just because of the name, I don't think it goes well with TLG in the approval stage. Its a very different thing to combine LEGO with a movie/comic book (media) license and a product (corporative) license. I am sorry so many talented builders struggle to understand this. Yes I know we had VW, Maersk, Shell and some others, but I find it highly unlikely such cooperation could be suggested by an Idea, but what do I know? -
I probably have much less insight into what is "appropriate" for kids, as we don't really have too many censorships or parental guidances here in Europe, and if we do, nobody pays any attention to them unless it is clearly pornographic or extreme. It may vary (I think UK is more rigorous with it), but you can basically show Pulp Fiction to a 6-year old, and in the worst case would get frowned upon from a sensitive parent. So when you say Big Bang Theory contains adult content, I have to really struggle to see what could even remotely be an issue. I suppose sex talk and references?

Not sure how these "preliminary" things normally go with LEGO, but it doesn't make sense to complete the art work and design the boxes and displays before the design of the final product is definite. Why would they do these things twice if they can do it once? I think what you see is what you'll get, not that I wouldn't like a change since i'm not too fond of what I've seen so far. -
I was just reading this board yesterday and was wondering why everyone thinks the TBBT is such an unlikely set to be approved. To me it looked like potentially the most popular set of all. The birds however do come as a surprise to me, I was thinking one of the Dr. Who would get priority. I am happy with the results so far.

I must say I have never seen this here either, and we are a bunch of manerless hicks with low morales. It must be something to do with reselling, the ebay culture. it's an addiction like gambling, you loose your sense of right and wrong, you start stealing, you do anything to boost your profit. I think anyway. Who else would NEED a minifig that bad?

bleeh! I liked the previous list much better. What does anyone need those gunned alien warrior -nuclear suit with antennas and lasers figures? that's for kids. Only thing remotely interesting here is the hot dog guy and maybe the carpenter although i don't know how they'd make him very exciting. -
I know that game very well, one of my favorites of all time, and that car and Glottis are one of the most memorable scenes for me. You have done a fantastic job, I am sorry a lot of people might not be familiar with it, but maybe that's just what makes it so special.

The first LEGO store in Croatia opened recently, It got quite a bad rap from people from the start, but a lot of those are just idiot customers with unrealistic expectations. They are trying, but are still quite lacking in a lot of things. Some of the display models are built all wrong, none of the staff seem to know much about LEGO products or bricks & color terminology. The PaB wall is unique in that there are no cups, but the bricks are weighed on a scale instead which was fine until they bumped the price up 17% overnight. Some of the staff have shown signs of enthusiasm concerning customer service, they will write your number down and phone you when an item arrives, but other than that and advice like "yes, girls like the pink sets", their usefulness is limited in any regards to product availability.

Afraid your optimism is very far fetched, Don't want to be buying anything from there. -
why are only men targeted here? although probably in minority, we all know some adult ladies who play with LEGO

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Common, you all have a much better standard of living than us here, and I only want modulars to get bigger, more complex in as high a price range as they go. LEGO is an expensive hobby, more so if you are an adult with collector tendencies, I may sound rude or harsh, but if you can't afford it, maybe a different interest is to be considered. I don't see much point in cutting down on something that is supposed to stand out for its detail, realism and size. If they cut down on modulars, I will loose interest, then I might as well buy police stations, i mean city sets. -
Best FB mod i've seen so far. Would have been nice if it came that way. Looks slightly more European now.

Best Bulbs for a Primitive Photography Setup?
Sven F replied to The Kumquat Alchemist's topic in General LEGO Discussion
whs^ The yellow tint is due to white balance. try setting it to "incandescent" or "tungsten" it is sometimes called. It is quite hard to get it perfect even if you adjust it to your lights, I find it always takes a bit of post-adjustment. Easy if you have the ability to take photos in RAW format, the adjustment is usually called "temperature", depending on your camera make/ raw format. -
Definitely not a French bus stop, they do all the pipi-kaka activities around the back. I like it, the electricity pole is a great touch.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am not convinced that most buyers of modulars are also collectors, I think most people just buy the one set or maybe another that they like with no intention of collecting them, and that's where the price comes in. We collectors will likely buy a 4000+ piece set costing upwards of 300$ because we need to have them all, and we know that price to brick ratio is usually better in large sets, and we go to great lenths to justify our expensive hobby. Normal people without our "condition" don't quite see it that way. A large price tag will just make them buy something else instead. This is why very large Idea sets stand a lesser chance at becoming a product, and if they do, probably not a very large production run nor considerable shelf longelivity. As much as I would like it, it would come as a big surprise if any modular building ever gets approval from Ideas. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Idea sets are only sold in official LEGO stores, so that alone is very limiting to availability even if you completely omit their production quantities. As far as Modular Idea sets go, I am mostly looking forward to the Natural history Museum reaching enough support to enter the consideration stage, but that would take at least another year to become a product, so a GB hq would do just fine in the meantime. Both of these projects would likely take very considerable amounts of optimization and brick reduction before reaching an agreeable selling price for TLG though. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Sven F replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would definitely not mind the GB hq, but seeing as Idea sets are made in very small quantities and all grabbed off the shelves by investors, I can't be too happy to have a modular fitting set from an Idea theme as it's bound to be frustrating not being able to get one. -
Don't know about Italy, but our customs office completely ignores the "gift" part on the parcel, so even if they did want to write this, it wouldn't get you out of paying. Almost all Chinese sellers write "gift" by default. Even if it is illegal, it's probably nothing anyone would be likely to get in trouble for, but its useless.

Are these exclusive to official LEGO shops? One just opened here, but doesn't hold this set. I could browse around Bruxelles or Strasbourg for them if they are sold by other toy shops.

I don't know what to think about this set. Anything town related that is not police or fire themed is a huge refreshment for me, but I feel frustrated with this set as it includes a lot of different things, many of which I don't necessarily need or want. I really like the city BUS and the whole concept of a town square is nice but the cost is driven up by that huge crane which I have absolutely no need for. I wish the bus, crane and buildings were all sold separately. In comparison to previous, similar concepts, I much prefer the older sets called "city transport" and "town plan" - not sure how they compare cost-wise though.
